Belialthorn had known that humans were greedy and bloodthirsty but he hadn't expected it to be this bad. "How could you torture monsters just for cheap experiments?" He thought.
It baffled him. What he knew was quick death for monsters for leveling up but humans had taken it a step further in cruelty that made them keep creatures in pain.
And to dare capture a Demon! The arrogance! To think humans would do such after their long and intense war with each other. Have they forgotten the terror the Demons brought as they flew over their burning civilization?
"Are you okay, Thorn?" Freya had to run to catch up to him, the boy was surprisingly fast on his feet. Well, looking at him Freya didn't think he looked like a boy. He was tall with black hair and blue eyes, his muscles were well defined and his... Freya flushed. She had to take care of herself tonight.
"Of course I am." Belialthorn slowed down so they could walk beside each other.
"Well, you didn't look it in there. You looked sick." Freya said with a frown on her face. "Are your wounds healed?"
What Cana said about Demon regeneration was true and it was even higher in Noble Demons but Belialthorn being weak as he was with his Bloodline Trait went at a slow rate. Even then, he was all healed up and his strength returned.
"I'm fine and the wounds are all healed," Belialthorn pats himself down. "Thanks to you."
Freya flushed and nodded. "You are welcome."
Freya then agreed to show him through the town and since Belialthorn had nothing to do he agreed. The town was bigger than Belialthorn thought and it wasn't as full of Hunters as he thought. The unclassified— people who can't access mana and level up are called unclassified— are more than the Hunters.
"Most Hunters don't stay in town. They either just pass through or have temporary homes here. Most of them are out for bounty or just leveling up." Freya said.
When words merged with earth, the system was birthed and it allowed everyone to level up but some people can't for whatever reason. They were called the unclassified. People that have no class like warrior, Caster, healer and, there simply is a lot of class.
The unclassified can also be people with low aptitude for mana and the Arcana.
"I should choose my class too," Belialthorn said. Since he was human now, he wondered if he could level up. The system only gives one class to any being and his own was Noble Demon which comes with his Bloodline. Can I cheat the system and get another class? He hadn't heard that happening before.
But his [form changing] allowed him to use a fake class and he had to fool the Hunters into believing he just wanted to choose a class. He would not be able to level it though.
'So what will I do for sixty-two years as I wait to reach a hundred years old and continue leveling up?" Belialthorn thought to himself. "The system had deemed us Demons too powerful if we level up fast because of our initiate ability for the Arcana'
'Maybe I should conquer a few cities. And look for a wife while at it. But first I have to show those humans!'
"You don't want to join the Holy Church do you?" Freya asked. "I can tell you are not interested."
Belialthorn shrugged. "I just wanted to ask about the Demons."
"And you have now. You should forget about the Demon and focus on yourself. Choose a nonfighting class and live your life here peacefully." Freya said.
Belialthorn felt amusement. Was this the human ambition? Even though he was weak as a Demon he had ambitions. At least having a city like Havenbrook under him wouldn't be bad, also he had some scores to settle with Demon City.
"I'm choosing a fighting class," Belialthorn said as they passed through a stall selling hot roasted meatballs. Freya got for them and he dug in. "I want to be a Hunter."
Freya looked at him sadly. "Just be smart about it. The mana in Havenbrook is strong enough to make you level up naturally, don't go killing for monsters to level up."
Belialthorn just shook his head. He wouldn't need to level up, he just needed a fake class while he used his normal status to disguise himself. It wouldn't be bad to kill a few monsters for show though.
The mana in the air could level you up true but only for lower levels. You wouuld need to kill monsters. Or humans. Or Demons, to level up to higher levels. Monsters are the generally accepted beings used for leveling up.
Belialthorn and Freya had walked back to their inn base just now and they entered. It was just as full of Hunters drinking and eating, making loud noise or singing as always.
"Always chaotic here," Freya said as she made her way to where Griffin and the others were sitting. "Thorn is planning to join the Hunter's Association." She announced.
Griffin sighed and took a drink while Serena grinned loudly.
"What class are you choosing?" Karina asked.
"I don't Know for now but I'll see how it goes tomorrow," Belialthorn replied.
"A lot of thought goes into choosing a class, won't you wait until we're back?" Griffin asked.
Belialthorn was already feeling irritated by the questions but he spoke gently. "You are after the Demon aren't you? Who knows when you'll be back."
Griffin looked guilty. From his view, they shouldn't be leaving a poor boy alone, not after what he had passed through.
"He's eighteen!" Karina snapped. "He can take care of himself and make decisions by himself! The bounty on that bastard Demon had been increased and we can take him dead now. I'm not missing because of a boy!"
Belialthorn was pleased by Karina's words even though he wanted to burn him. He didn't know how much he could take from them but he had to pretend to be a clueless boy.
"Watch yourself, Karina! You knew what he passed through." Serena said.
"I do and I say we have done enough for him too." Karina shot her a dark look and Serena returned with one of her own.
"Enough!" Griffin said firmly and they all faced him. "Very well. You are on your own now Thorn. We will give you a share of the coins we made from the spell books. I think we will be leaving town in a few days."
Belialthorn made his voice low and weak. "Thank you very much for your help. All of you."
The conversation continued from there, they all gave him advice and warning about what and not to do. After eating a quick food, Belialthorn took his leave.
He breathed in once in his room. "Damn humans! They just couldn't stop talking! It's pathetic that I have to hide like this when I can just shut them up!"
But Belialthorn didn't let that bothered him too much, he had something to prepare for tonight. He had a prey to hunt.
