The Way He Was

Ethan

I picked up Demyan's phone as it rang for the third time, Uncle Edward's contact flooded the screen and even though fear gripped me I picked it up as I continued to try to wake up Demyan.

"Demyan, my boy-"

"Uncle Ed," I sobbed as I tried to gather Demyan in my arms but felt too weak to even pick him up.

"Ethan?" he sounded deeply confused before worry flooded his voice, "Why are you crying? Where's Demyan?"

"We- we, I turned around when I looked back he- Uncle Ed he won't wake up," I could barely see from how hard I was crying as I cradled Demyan close to my chest.

"What do you mean he won't wake up? Ethan," I heard rustling in the background followed by a small voice. "Where are you?"

"At my beach house," I was shaking so much I almost dropped the phone twice. "What should I do Uncle Ed? He won't wake up."
