Chapter 46: Why? What? How?

It was already early evening when Sammy decided to make her way back to the shelter. She swore at her stupidity of forgetting her chargers at the storage area with the rest of her luggage. Her phone's battery had soon died and she had tried to use Monica's charger but the charging ports hadn't matched. She was worried that the Care facility wouldn't be able to contact her in case of any emergency.

Her old sim card lay in the small matchbox in her purse and it had been fairly easy to get and register a new prepaid sim card. The care facility was the only people with that number.

She retrieved her bag and went into the shelter. Today there were fewer people than the previous night. A woman was playing with a toddler on one of the beds. Would this be her one day, homeless and living in a shelter with her child.

The little girl looked at Sammy and smiled before waving. Sammy felt string tug at her heart as she smiled and waved back.
