The TV displayed three more videos.
One was of Matt Damon and the others gathering at another bar, and the other two were of Matt Damon and the group dining at a restaurant—
Indeed, in all three videos, the figure of the black man with dreadlocks appeared nearby.
Although the footage was blurry, making it hard to make out the man's face, his outfit, build, and posture made it highly likely that this was the same person.
"This man has already been apprehended by our police. Perhaps we can learn the cause of the brawl from him," said the officer.
...
"'The Bourne Identity' bar fight with gangsters. Matt Damon points out that someone is trying to frame the crew..."
"A premeditated brawl. Who did the 'Bourne Identity' crew offend?"
"Matt Damon injured, Ben Affleck injured, Chris Cooper injured... With most of the main actors from 'The Bourne Identity' hurt, filming progress may be affected..."
The buzz around The Bourne Identity quickly intensified.
...
On set, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Chris Cooper, the injured actors, were all still filming their scenes.
Yes, they had sustained some minor injuries during the brawl, but it hadn't affected the filming.
After the scene wrapped, Ben Affleck walked over to Matt Damon with a cheerful expression. "Matt, we did great this time. Martin should trust us more now!"
Matt Damon cautiously looked around. "Don't mention this in the crew. Remember, keep it to ourselves."
"Got it, got it. I only say this to you," Ben Affleck grinned.
...
In the suburbs, at an underground clinic.
Several black men lay in hospital beds, all with swollen faces and casts, clearly having sustained serious injuries.
Outside the clinic, the gang leader, Boyette, was on the phone.
"Goddamn it, are you blaming me? I told you, it was a trap. Those so-called good Samaritans were definitely arranged beforehand. They're all experts in fighting! My men are all in the hospital, and Jerry's in jail!"
"Dammit, how do I know if Jerry will say anything? All I know is, I've lost big on this deal."
"Yeah, yeah, Jerry doesn't know about you, and in the end, the cops will only trace this back to me, but I can't guarantee I won't throw you under the bus."
"100,000? No, that's not enough. I might lose money and end up in jail. My brothers need medical bills! A flat price—500,000!"
"Hahaha, great doing business with you. If anything comes up, you can contact me. Goodbye!"
Boyette grinned and hung up the phone.
On the other end, Harvey slammed his fist on the table, then groaned in pain.
"Harvey, you made a mistake," Bob said seriously from across the desk.
"What, you think I shouldn't have retaliated?" Harvey gritted his teeth while nursing his sore hand, glaring at his brother.
"No, I'm not saying you shouldn't have retaliated, but you shouldn't have handled it personally. Who the hell is Boyette? Do you think he won't start leeching off you from now on?"
"Shit, this was definitely a misstep. Boyette's a greedy fool. I shouldn't have called him directly."
Harvey frowned, lamenting, "The money's already spent, but the Bourne Identity crew wasn't affected at all. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck got hurt, but Chris Cooper didn't get hurt much at all!"
He paused, a thought crossing his mind. "Boyette said he fell into a trap, that those bystanders in the bar were all fighting experts!"
Bob shook his head, sighing in resignation. His respect for Martin grew.
He said, "I can tell, those bystanders were clearly prepared beforehand. It seems Martin anticipated that someone would try to mess with him."
"But... how did he know we'd target The Bourne Identity and not something else?" Harvey asked, confused.
Bob didn't answer, instead asking, "Harvey, do you remember why we targeted The Bourne Identity?"
"Because it's the first fully independent film produced by Martin Myers' company. We didn't want him to succeed, and also... it has no backing!"
"That's exactly it!"
Bob shrugged.
"Shit, he could figure out from all these clues that someone would mess with The Bourne Identity?"
"He's a genius, isn't he?"
"A genius, my ass. He's way too smart. Wait—"
"You think he's figured out it was us?" Harvey's face grew pale.
"Very likely. It's not hard to guess. After all, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are in the crew, and we had a motive. He might not be sure, but we're definitely the prime suspects."
Bob said with a grim expression.
Harvey's face was similarly dark.
Since he started targeting Martin, it felt like he was always on the losing side. Could a genius really be that unstoppable?
No, I refuse to accept it! I haven't lost yet!
Unless The Bourne Identity becomes a huge hit, Martin could still fail.
"Bob, check which warehouse the film reels for The Bourne Identity are kept in."
"Harvey, what are you planning to do?"
Bob widened his eyes, not expecting his older brother to become even more daring after every setback.
"Warner's film warehouse has had fires before, hasn't it?"
"Goddamn, you're crazy."
"Don't worry, neither you nor I will be directly involved. We'll send someone reliable to handle it."
...
On the Spider-Man set.
Jeff came to visit and update Martin on the situation.
"Martin, you were right. Someone is definitely targeting the crew. Fortunately, we've had people tailing Matt Damon and his group for the past two weeks."
"We've tracked down the hideout of those black guys. Should we act?"
Martin waved his hand. "A bunch of low-tier thugs. Let's not bother with them for now. Just have our people keep an eye on the set. Make sure the filming equipment and the footage are safe."
After thinking for a moment, he added, "I'll have Gordon handle this. He's more professional in this area. You stay on top of Harvey. I know you have some friends at Miramax, so quietly make use of them."
"Got it. I'll keep an eye on Harvey."
A week passed without any further incidents.
Filming on The Bourne Identity was going smoothly.
