"Cut, this one is fine."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Group scenes are always troublesome to schedule, and every retake is a huge challenge.
Elijah Wood patted his chest, a look of fear on his face, and said to Martin sincerely, "Thank you so much, Martin. I was almost scared to death."
He then squeezed Martin's arm in surprise. "They all say you were born with divine power, and now I believe it!"
...
This was just a brief episode during filming.
In the Lord of the Rings series, there are many group scenes, and even Martin can't cover them all. "NG" (no good) takes were common occurrences. Fortunately, Peter Jackson maintained a good attitude, and Martin, as the investor, didn't complain.
The crew continued filming in an orderly manner.
During this time, Martin had been handling remote public relations for Nicole's Oscar campaign for Best Actress.
"Martin, Tom said his Cruise Films will take action, but something strange has happened. Recently, a friend of mine has been insisting that I meet Harvey, saying that Harvey wants to talk to me about winning awards."
"But I refused. As you said, I shouldn't be alone with Harvey. He's a dangerous guy."
Martin, on the other end of the phone, was stunned. "Harvey? Harvey Weinstein?"
After Nicole confirmed it, Martin was immediately furious.
"This damn fat guy is really evil. He harassed Charlize before, and now he wants to attack Nicole?!"
"Who is your friend?"
"David Wenham, a fellow Australian of mine."
"Don't contact him again. This guy has no good intentions."
"No way? Maybe he doesn't know who Harvey is!"
"Believe me, this guy once auditioned for the role of Faramir, and Harvey called him to intercede for him. They definitely have a relationship."
"Okay, okay, I'll listen to you and never contact David again."
...
"Hello, Harvey. It's David Wenham. Nicole didn't agree to meet."
"What? You idiot, you can't even do this little thing? It's just a meal. You can't even set up a date? Didn't you say that you and Nicole Kidman are very close?" Harvey yelled at the other end of the phone.
David Wenham didn't dare respond and could only curse in his heart. "Just a meal?" Even a fool can tell what kind of person you are, you damn fat guy!
"I'll give you one more chance, the last one. Ask Nicole out and tell her I'm sure she'll win the Best Actress Oscar this year. Remember, this is your final chance. Otherwise, you'll go back to farming in Australia!"
Harvey then shifted gears. "But if you succeed, my Miramax and I will take you in, and you'll receive resources you can't even imagine."
David Wenham's expression changed. He was already ready to back out but suddenly became motivated and excited. "Harvey, is everything you said true?"
"Of course," Harvey said arrogantly on the other end of the phone. "I have plenty of opportunities in my hands, no need to lie to you."
"Okay, I'll help you." Even though he knew Harvey had bad intentions, David Wenham decided to act. In Hollywood, opportunities are too precious.
A few days later, Nicole received another call from David Wenham.
After much hesitation, she finally picked up the call, secretly swearing in her heart that if David Wenham tried to persuade her to meet Harvey again, she would block him.
When the call connected, David Wenham's haggard voice came through.
"Nicole, thank God you didn't agree to meet Harvey."
"After Harvey asked me to ask you out that time, I went to inquire about it. This guy is a bad person. Several actresses have fallen into his hands. I heard that a young actor was drugged by him... this damn guy! I was almost taken advantage of by him."
"Sorry, Nicole, for almost putting you in danger."
David Wenham's words made Nicole Kidman feel slightly relieved. It seemed that David had just been temporarily deceived by Harvey. He didn't have any ill intentions.
She softened and said, "It's okay, David. It's not your fault. I understand. But you should have no contact with Harvey in the future. Even though he has power and resources, his methods are too reckless. Something will happen sooner or later."
"I understand."
A brief flicker of guilt passed through David Wenham's heart, but it quickly faded.
"Nicole," he added, "We haven't seen each other in a long time. Why don't we meet for dinner sometime?"
Nicole Kidman hesitated but ultimately agreed.
"Okay, you set the time. I'm free recently."
"Alright, I'll call you when I think about it."
David Wenham hung up the phone without immediately setting a time for dinner—otherwise, it would look premeditated.
Two days passed.
David Wenham called Nicole again and set a time for dinner.
Nicole agreed to the time and place.
But just after hanging up the call with David Wenham, a strange feeling stirred within Nicole. It was as though a mysterious warning had been triggered in her heart, making her suddenly feel uneasy.
Martin asked me not to have contact with David. I should have listened to him...
This feeling was something like guilt but not quite the same.
It was as if Martin's subtle "suggestion" to be obedient had worked on her subconscious.
After a moment of reflection, Nicole picked up the phone and made an overseas call.
"David Wenham invited you to dinner. Did you agree?" Martin's voice on the other end of the phone was tense, as he sensed something was wrong with this meal.
"Sorry, Martin. After all, David has been my friend for many years. I can't just cut ties with him."
"It's okay, Nicole. It's not your fault. If it's just a meal with David, then go ahead."
"Thank you for understanding, Martin. Don't worry. If David brings up Harvey again, I'll leave immediately. After all, Nicole Kidman has been working in Hollywood for many years and still has to stay vigilant."
After hanging up, Nicole asked the housekeeper, "Will Tom be back in the next few days?"
The housekeeper replied, "No, because of the filming of Mission: Impossible 2, sir will stay on set until December."
Nicole nodded, squeezed the phone in her hand, and decided against calling her husband.
...
New Zealand.
Martin went to Peter's room.
"Peter, there are some things I need to take care of in Los Angeles. I need to take a week off."
Peter Jackson waved his hand, cheerful. "Go ahead and come back as soon as possible."
"I will, thank you!"
...
Miramax office.
The phone rang.
Harvey answered.
"Harvey, I got it, Nicole..."
