The Haunting Face at Night

As night fell, Xiao Ping and her roommates retired to their beds. The Dean of Students and a group of security personnel, along with several brave male students, stood guard outside. With so many people watching, would the ghost dare to come? No one was sure who mumbled these thoughts.

At 2 a.m., Xiao Ping stared intently at the mosquito net above her bed, wondering if the man's face would appear. The room remained eerily quiet. Slowly, the mosquito net sagged downward once again. He had returned.

The man's face, pale as ever, stared at Xiao Ping and seemed more distinctive that night.

"He's here!" Xiao Ping shouted. In an instant, everyone rushed into the room. "Where is he? Where did he go?" they exclaimed.

"He hasn't left; he's right there," Xiao Ping insisted. Strangely, only Xiao Ping could see him, but the others couldn't.

"Where is he?" everyone else wondered as they searched the room.

"He's by the window. Over there, he's trying to leave," Xiao Ping pointed. But no one could see anything.

"Let's follow him," the Dean suggested. And so, a group of people followed Xiao Ping out of the room, Xiao Ping keeping her eyes on the man's face.

They exited the school gate and arrived at a stagnant pond. The face gave Xiao Ping a smile and jumped into the water.

"He jumped in, he jumped in, he's gone!" Xiao Ping yelled.

The following day, the authorities came to drain the pond, and guess what they discovered?

A corpse of a male student. Several weeks prior, the university had reported the disappearance of a male student who they couldn't locate despite extensive searches. Little did they know he had been there all along.

It was later confirmed that he was the one. When people showed Xiao Ping his photograph, she recognized the pale face as the man she had seen.
