A Coach and their Student

 The clock was ticking on the wall, a stark reminder that Kaito despite his best effort was stuck in class for at least another hour before lunch. Bored out of his mind he thought back to what Chronoa had said. 

[Time Nest: Last night 9PM] 

"Kai what was that?!?" Chronoa blurted out as she made her way over to Kaito. Her short frame made her less intimidating but she was clearly furious. 

"What do you mean?" Kaito was at a loss, he had thought the mission went well. Or as well as it could considering two people died one of them being the enemy. 

"It was almost as if you've never fought a day in your life! You came around near the end there but if it was for Goku that mission would have gone wrong!" Chronoa was beside herself she entrusted the safety of time to a newbie. 

"To be fair Supreme Kai of Time, without Goku I don't think we would be here right now" Trunks had come to Kaitos defense and he was correct, if not for Goku even Chronoa would be hard pressed to deny his heroics. 

"Alright you're right" Chronoa let out a sigh clearly calming down some. "However, I'm gonna get you a Teacher!" Chronoa pointed at Kaito shouting. "Your performance was horrendous! We're gonna fix this while we can." She turned around and walked to the time vault.

[School 11:30AM]

Kaito sighed thinking about what a teacher could possibly do to assist him when he heard the lunch bell. "Yo Kaito!" Kaito turned around to find his best friend Darren. He was tall with long brown hair going to his shoulders. He had black rim glasses that complimented his hazel brown eyes.

"Ah Darren" Kaito Smiled and got up from where he was seated to greet his long-time friend. His face held a warmth only friendship could provide.

"Kaito a little birdy told me you got Xenoverse 2" Darren chuckled amused by the bewilderment on Kaitos features. 

"Little bird?" Kaito repeated asking if he heard right.

"Yeah she was a black bird with ocean blue eyes" Suddenly something registered in Kaitos features. His face went from confusion to all too well understanding. 

"Hana, but when did you see her? She was on a date last night…Don't tell me!" Kaito's eyes bugged out like they were about to pop out of his head.

"No no! Don't get the wrong idea!" Darren put up his hands in a defensive gesture. "It was my brother, he's dating your sister" Darren felt some sweat drip down his face. 

"Your brother huh?" Kaito looked out the window trying to recall Darren's brother. With a strained expression Kaito tried his best but couldn't come up with it in the end. " I don't remember him sorry"

"Dude, he gave you a bike at your last birthday!" Darren was baffled how someone could

 forget such a thing. Suddenly his expression hardened. 

"Darren?" Kaito looked at his friend, he had never seen Darren so serious before.

"By the way Kaito, have you done the first mission yet?" Darren looked into Kaitos eyes analyzing him for anything.

"Yeah, the Supreme Kai of Time and Trunks put me through the paces." Kaito let out a chuckle, quickly ending when he saw Darrens gaze bare through him. 

'What did you do?" Darren asked almost as if he's not expecting Kaito to get it correct.

"I went and fought Raditz. It was crazy" Kaitos' eyes glossed over remembering Goku's sacrifice, watching it on TV was awesome. Seeing it happen before your eyes is life changing. 

"Kaito…Rookie time patrollers train before they're allowed out of the field" Darren's expression didn't change. "You could have died!" Darren grabbed Kaitos shoulders and shook him. 

"Its a game what's the issue?" Kaito spluttered out trying to stop himself from getting dizzy. Darren stopped for a moment and thought about it. 

" Just because it's a game doesn't mean your life is worth any less" Darren lets the room not turning around to see if his words sunk in or not. 

Katio thought about what darren had said on his way home. Was he right? Kaito didn't have a clue for now he had to meet his new Teacher? Master? Kaiito walked into the house. The usually loud and atmospheric place was reduced to a quiet library of memories currently. Kaito set down his bag and walked upstairs to his room. 

[Time Nest 7:00PM] 

"Kai, I've been looking for you!" Chronoa waved him over to her. "I found you a Master!" She was beaming a smile at him full of mirth and warmth. 

"Oh? Who would that be?" Kaito asked incredulously, clearly not thinking she would find one so quick. 

"That would be me, Pipsqueak" Kaito froze at the low voice coming from behind him. He slowly turned around and found a very tall woman. She was wearing a black jog suit covered in white stripes on the edges. Her hair was a milky white complimenting her blue eyes. "My name is Risako! But you call me Risa" She let out a hearty laugh. 

"Hello erm Miss Risa?" Kaito was shocked. How could someone have so much power? Hes practically having a hard time breathing because of her aura. 

"No no Kiddo, just Risa!" She walked over to Chronoa to talk about schedules or something. Leaving Kaito to stew in his thoughts. 

"What have I gotten myself into?" when something suddenly registered in his mind. Kaito looked up and looked around. They were outside the Time Vault so where in the world were the other players? He looked at Risa looking for a number above her head but found nothing, he was sure she was a player. 

"Alright Pipsqueak! Get ready because you're gonna cry by the end of this" Risa got a devilish smirk. 'This is the first time i've ever had a student" Kaito's eyes softened a bit though he was still worried he couldn't help but smile, she was obviously excited about this.
