Marry Me

Tyson stepped into the lobby of the hospital and was greeted by his assistant who had arrived earlier.

"Any update?" He asked dryly, not really expecting anything. Finding a donor for his girlfriend, Lila, had proved abortive so many times that he had begun to lose hope.

"Actually, there is." Jay, his assistant said with a huge grin on his face. He also had resigned himself to the fact that Lila might never get a compatible donor, that was until earlier in the day when someone walked up to him to offer herself up as a donor.

"Oh really?" Tyson arched his brow. "What update is that exactly?"

"We were able to get a compatible Kidney donor for Lila. There's still hope for her."

Tyson's nonchalant expression turned to one of surprise. "Really? How? When I called the hospital earlier, I was told no compatible donor had been found."

"Yes, but not long after you called, a lady walked in and said she would like to undergo a test to see if she as compatible with Lila. I saw no reason to turn her down so, I agreed. The test was done and she was a perfect match."

"Then why isn't any preparation being made for the surgery? What's the delay?" Tyson asked, his voice suddenly turning stern.

"Well, that's where the issue comes in. Apparently, she isn't doing it out of sheer goodwill; she wants something in return."

"And what's that?"

"She wouldn't say. She wants to talk to you and you alone. After the test, she sat in the waiting room and hasn't said a word since."

Without another word, Tyson walked up to the waiting area and saw just a single person seated on one of the seats. She had her head down but sensing his presence, she raised it up and their eyes zeroed in on each other. Tyson found himself holding his breath, this was definitely not the donor he imagined. This person was a very beautiful woman with her pale light skin, her long and dark curly hair and her freckled cheeks. She had on a big pair of glasses like that of Harry Potter which swallowed her face. Her lips were thin and rosy and she was of average height; she had on a baggy dress and her entire look screamed nerd.

Her beauty wasn't as exquisite as Lila's because Lila was definitely on a different level but she sure was beautiful.

Her face lit up with a smile at the sight of him which made him wary.

"You must be the donor." Tyson said and she nodded. "Cat got your tongue or what? Speak up."

"Yes, I am."

"All right then, let's get down to business. What is it you want in exchange for your kidney? My assistant here told me you are a perfect match and that you didn't offer yourself up for free. Not that I was expecting anything less. So, state your price."

"I don't want money."

"What is it you want then? A car? A house?" He paused and gave her a good looking over without hiding the disgust on his face. "A whole new wardrobe perhaps?" It was obvious he intended to hurt her with his words. Skylar was a beautiful lady but her baggy dress looked too ugly on her, it was a pain to look at. At least, that's what he thought.

Skylar made no reaction to his jab, instead, she just smiled. "My wardrobe is just fine. Everything you mentioned, I can very well afford.

"Then what is it you want?" Tyson asked, starting to get impatient and annoyed.

Skylar sighed then spoke. "You."

"Excuse me?"

"Marry me. I want you to marry me."

Tyson looked at her in bewilderment and suddenly began to laugh. "Is this some of kind of joke." He asked, becoming serious again.

"No, you heard me right. The only way to have me donate my kidney to your girlfriend is if you marry me. No marriage, no deal. It's that simple." She added and crossed her arms underneath her breasts.

"Over my fucking dead body!" Tyson yelled so loud in anger that a nurse had to warn him to keep it down. Skylar stared at him without a single word nor a flinch. "Do you really think I'd leave my girlfriend, MY GIRLFRIEND, for someone like you?! You must really think highly of yourself to even think I'll stoop so low to have you as a wife." He spat.

"Then I guess our conversation is over." She picked up her back to walk away but Jay stepped in her path, blocking her way.

"Get out of my way, please. My help is no longer needed and I see no reason to stay any longer."

"Wait, please. Let me speak to him."

"You do know I'm standing right here, right?" Tyson asked with an arched brow.

"Please think this through Ty. It took us months just to find a compatible donor for Lila and we didn't even find her, she came to us. How much longer will Lila have to suffer. We might not find any donor any time soon and Lila's condition worsens with every single delay. At this rate, we will lose her and all this will be for naught. Think about it Ty." Jay moved closer to Tyson and lowered his voice to a whisper. "You can always divorce her; this isn't for life. Once Lila is better, we'll find a way to get rid of the donor for good." Tyson cast a glance at Skylar then looked at Jay.

"I don't want to believe that she really can't be moved by money. I doubt she'll be able to resist my offer."

"Ty…." Jay sighed.

"It's worth a try." Saying that, he walked up to Skylar. "Name your price. Anything, I'll give you, just name your price and let's be done with it."

"I already told you; I'm not interested in your money or material things. All I want is for you to marry me."

"How about ten million. That's a huge amount of money."

Skylar was silent.

"Fifty million, enough for you to eat for half your life." Tyson said, starting to get desperate and pissed off. Skylar still didn't say a word.

"Not enough? Eighty million!"

Tyson continued to overshoot the price, and Skylar sighed with a shake of her head.

"I already told you what I want. Agree to it and I'll willingly donate my kidney right now without a second thought. For every second being wasted, your girlfriend's condition worsens."

Her stubbornness made Tyson angry. "What is wrong with you?!" He snapped.

"Marry me and you just might find out." She smirked which pissed Tyson even more.

Not being able to take it anymore and control himself, he closed the distance between them and gripped her shoulders hard. She let out a wince but he wasn't moved. "I don't even know you, why in the world will I marry a complete stranger? Why will I bring a complete stranger to my home? Why should I trust a complete stranger?!" He growled, his face mere inches from hers.

Skylar didn't say a word.

"Answer Me!" He yelled and shook her violently.

"Because you promised!" She croaked out in pain. "You promised to marry me before you left. I'm only helping you keep your promise because you never go back on your word."

"YOU LIAR!! I don't even know who the fuck you are and I have never seen you in my life. I never made such a promise to anyone except Lila and you're not Lila!"

"You can deny it all you want but one day you'll come to terms with it. I don't mind waiting forever." A tear dropped from her eye. "Please let me go, you're hurting me. Let me go Tyson, please."

With a sneer, he let her go and distanced himself. Skylar rolled her shoulders and winced with every movement. It was definitely bruised, badly.

"Goddammit!" Tyson hissed and shoved his fingers in his midnight black hair; Oh, how she wished her fingers were the ones pulling his hair instead; as he paced around, cussing under his breath every second. Skylar and Jay watched in silence.

"You are so goddamn stubborn and annoying!" He yelled at her.

Skylar shrugged nonchalantly. "You should have figured that out since."

"Shut the fuck up!"

"If you really love Lila as you say you do, you'll be willing to do absolutely anything for her, even marrying a complete stranger."

" Didn't I tell you to shut the fuck up?! I don't need your opinion for anything so keep them to yourself."

"As you wish, Tyson." She said, sarcasm lacing her tone.

"It's Mr. Knight to you." He snapped at her which led her to roll her eyes.

"I think hubby will sound more appropriate, since we'll be married soon."

Tyson gave her a deadly side glance but as usual, she wasn't moved.

Seconds later, a nurse rushed into the waiting room, looking a bit scared.

Noticing the look on the nurse's face, Tyson's turned deathly pale.

"What's wrong?" Jay asked, bringing the words out of Tyson's mouth.

"It's Miss Lila, her condition just got worse. She needs a transplant as soon as possible, or else she's not going to make it. Any further delay will be detrimental."

Tyson gritted his teeth and balled his fists,

"Well then, the ball is in your court, Mr. Knight. What's your decision?"
