Chapter 13: "The Final Confrontations"

After fighting Arkham, Dante and Vergil charge at him one last time together. They both stab him, leaving their swords embedded in his body. Then they separate, and Dante, with a kick to Rebellion, drives the sword even deeper into Arkham. Vergil does the same with a strike. With their swords piercing Arkham, Dante grabs Yamato and starts to slice him, while Vergil does the same with Rebellion, unleashing a coordinated attack.

They both separate from Arkham to charge at him again, jumping on top and slicing him mid-fall. Upon landing, they exchange swords: Dante hands Yamato to Vergil, and Vergil returns Rebellion to Dante. Dante pulls out his pistols and aims at Arkham. Before he can shoot, Arkham launches a tentacle, hitting Dante and making him drop one of his guns. Vergil picks it up and aims at Arkham, both of them now pointing a gun at their enemy.

"I'll try it your way for once," says Vergil.

"Do you remember what we used to say?" replies Dante.

"DON'T DO IT!" screams Arkham.

Dante and Vergil bring their guns together and say in unison: "Jackpot!"

In his final moment, Arkham says: "But... the power of Sparda is mine..."

Vergil replies: "What terrible last words." He then hands the gun back to Dante.

When Arkham finishes losing his transformation, he leaves a sword and the two amulets of Dante and Vergil. The items fall in the center of the room, right over a hole. Dante and Vergil start running towards them, following them to the bottom of the hole. Each one grabs their amulet as they continue descending.

[Added: "Force Edge"]

[Guitar Hero: "New weapon, and it looks like everything's over."]

[Crimson-Haired Princess: "True, it seems in the end the brothers were able to unite."]

[Blooming Butterfly: "United to defeat an enemy."]

[Cat Guru: "The new weapon, Force Edge, seems to be a sword that isn't awakened. It says they need both amulets to awaken it."]

[Golden Lady Caged in Ice: "I have a feeling this isn't over yet; after all, I think neither of them wants to give up their amulets."]

[Guitar Hero: "Maybe by talking, they can work things out."]

[Crimson-Haired Princess: "Well, I don't think they can. If the sword needs both amulets, I think they're going to fight."]

First, the sword falls, embedding itself in the ground, which has a slight layer of water. Then, Dante and Vergil fall, each separated at the same distance from the sword. They both see it in the center and try to reach it. Vergil arrives first and grabs it.

Vergil looks at Dante's amulet and says: "Give me that."

Dante examines his amulet, puts it away, and replies: "No way, you have your own."

Vergil glares at Dante, spins Force Edge, and points it at him, saying: "But I want yours too."

Dante, dismissively, starts to walk around Vergil and says: "What are you going to do with all that power? No matter how hard you try, you'll never be like Dad."

Vergil charges at Dante and yells: "You're wasting your time!" Dante, seeing Vergil approach, uses Rebellion to try to slice him while also grabbing Force Edge by the blade, as Vergil does the same with Rebellion.

Both, with their hands cut by the other's sword blade, start to exert force against each other. Dante says: "We are the sons of Sparda." Then adds: "Within each of us flows his blood. But more importantly, his soul!"

Finally, they both release their grip and recover their swords, standing one in front of the other. Dante says: "And now, my soul is telling me it wants to stop you!"

Vergil laughs and says: "Hahaha... Unfortunately, our souls disagree, brother." Then, he looks at him, raises his hand, and, clenching it tightly, exclaims: "I need more power!"

Dante watches him and comments: "And we're supposed to be twins..."

Vergil responds as he prepares to fight: "Identical? Don't make me laugh."

And then, they start to fight, as the music plays ('Vergil battle 3').

[Guitar Hero: "There's music again, an orchestra marking the end... Well, in the end, it looks like they are going to fight."]

[Crimson-Haired Princess: "It seems that his brother is determined to gain more power, no matter the cost."]

[Cat Guru: "Brothers fighting for power... How ironic."]

[Blooming Butterfly: "Too bad they couldn't unite in the end."]

[Golden Lady Caged in Ice: "It seems that power is more important than family."]

After fighting intensely, Vergil finds himself kneeling on the ground with one leg. "Am I... being defeated?" he murmurs, astonished. Dante watches him and says: "What's wrong? Is that all you've got? Come on, get up! You can do better than that."

Vergil, with effort, rises once more and looks at Dante. Then, the ground starts to tremble, and Vergil says: "The portal to the human world is closing, Dante. It's because the amulets have separated." Dante looks at him and replies: "Let's finish this, Vergil. I have to stop you, even if it means killing you." They both prepare to charge at each other once more.

They run towards each other, Dante with Rebellion in hand and Vergil with Force Edge. When they are close, they try to attack each other, but Dante, with greater speed, manages to cut Vergil first, piercing him. Vergil is seen getting hurt, but his body begins to heal instantly.

Vergil falls to the ground, dropping Force Edge and grabbing his amulet that has fallen next to him. He turns to Dante, who has put Rebellion on his back, and says: "No one will ever have this amulet, Dante." Vergil starts to back away, looking at Dante as he asserts: "It belongs to me, one of Sparda's sons."

Dante watches as Vergil backs toward the edge of an abyss and, quickly moving to stop him, Vergil puts Yamato to his neck, halting him. "Let me go," Vergil says firmly, "if you don't want to get trapped in the demon world. I will stay. This place was our father's home."

Vergil takes a step back and falls into the abyss. Dante tries to hold him, but Vergil wounds him in the hand with Yamato to avoid being saved.

Dante watches his brother fall, looking at his own injured hand. Then he turns around, his eyes fixating on Force Edge. He slowly approaches, takes it in his hands, and after looking at it for a moment, begins to walk out of the demon world.

[Guitar Hero: "Now it's really over."]

[Crimson-Haired Princess: "It seems that, even in the end, Dante tried to save him."]

[Cat Guru: "Well, I think they both tried, right?"]

[Blooming Butterfly: "They're brothers, after all."]

[Golden Lady Caged in Ice: "One tried to prevent him from staying in the demon world, and the other tried to pull him out of it."]
