An Invitation

A single sentence paralyzed my every movement as my head slowly turn back to face Alfie.

"Y-You... did hear... didn't you..." I asked, praying that she didn't hear, but from her question, it was so obvious that she did!

"Maybe a little bit..." She looked away

"She was worried because you were sounding as if you were talking to somebody, but Shin had already left," Fay appeared behind me, making me jump away.

What the hell?! I knew her steps were super quiet, but still! She's is totally an assassin class...

"Apologies, Amber. I did not mean to scare you and eavesdrop, however, I heard a familiar name," Fay bowed as an apology

So Alfie probably heard most of it and now Fay knows. Was I... speaking that loudly? That conversation was so cringey I wanna die...

Wait... "Familiar name? You remember Hiroto?"

"Yes, after his appearance in the throne room lord Grail seemed to be quite interested in hi-"

"What?" My tone immediately changed. Emitting a murderous aura, I could feel Alfie's surprise from my blood lust.

I stabilized my own breathing, trying to calm down. I thought Fay remembered Hiroto from before our capture, but I guess I was wrong. That bastard Grail sure likes doing anything and everything that'd piss me off though.

"This Hiroto guy. Is he your friend?" Alfie had a mischievous grin on her face.

"I mean..." What am I supposed to say? "He's my best fr- my best toy,"

"Alfie! I got something for you," Shin walked up the stairs into the hallway trying to read a weird piece of paper. Emphasis on try, I doubt he could actually read this enchantment table language.

What is it?

I took Shin's paper and jumped back as he tried to grab it back, but I retreated even more. It was a paper written in a letter format with a sort of fancy seal at the end. Written with a cursive version of the normal unreadable language.

"Seems formal," I continuously hopped around avoiding Shin's grasp as I failed in trying to decipher even a word.

I hate languages...

I waved the paper in defeat like a white flag, sending it to Alfie.

Seeing the seal, her eyes immediately widened, surprised and maybe even a little afraid.

"Such a pain..." Alfie sighed underneath her breath

This chapter's short... but this is the end of volume 9 and I'll be taking a small break between this volume and volume 10 so I can plan out the next arc and make sure my direction improves! If I manage to stack up chapters while the break, I'll be able to have super-consistent uploads too! Anyways, have a nice day guys!
