If he's with a girl, he'll either pick up and say not to disturb him, or he'll drop the call, or he'll totally ignore it. There was no reason David couldn't call his best friend and share his day. After all, that's what they were for!
But wait, did David really want to share today with him? It's not like something glorious happened to him. In fact, much of today's turmoil was due to David's stupidity and lack of thought. It was really nothing to brag about.
