Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Learning Is Painful

Reading through the information, he realized that it didn't exactly tell him the strength of the beast. The only useful information it stated was the fact that the beast was at peak condition, something that he was unhappy to know. The creature was as strong it could be, meaning that if they were going to fight, then it would certainly be one tough fight to win.

Kayden was at least glad that the beast didn't have any skills or abilities, other than the fact that its drool was highly venomous and acidic. Still, he wondered how effective it would be against someone of his level. Would it just affect a part of their body, or would it go as far as to burn their bodies on the spot. Thinking about this, he knew that he and the others will have to decide on something before the east finally teaches where they are.

Arriving at what looked like a waterfall, the three students jumped down, not caring about how far down the water current led. Descending down, they all looked up, only to see the beast falling towards them. They hoped that it didn't have any plans on chasing them down into a river, but it seemed like this beast wasn't aquaphobic. Its claws were stretched out, ready to slice them to shreds. It wasn't long until they had crashed into the river below, the beast following closely behind them.

Seeing the severity of the situation, Kayden quickly transformed, going for the creature's eyes, hoping that it wouldn't attack him mid-jump. His claws scratched the head of the beast, struggling to get a good grip before slashing at one eye with his claws. The beast yelled in pain, shaking its head, trying to fling the werewolf away.

Markus and Dan quickly swam on to dry land. After catching there breaths, they looked onward at the fight between Kayden and the beast. He seemed to be holding his own as he managed to avoid a couple strikes, delivering his own as well. But, in the midst of the clashes, he didn't know when he drops of the beast's drool had landed on his shoulder. The stinging pain had caused him to stop attacking and curled up in agony.

Seizing this opportunity, the creature opened its jaw wide, ready to clamp down at the werewolf. Meanwhile, both Dan and Markus had their eyes wide in shock. They were too stunned to do anything. They both knew that Kayden was the strongest among them. And if he couldn't defend against this creature, then what were they supposed to do. All they could do was wait until the simulation came to an end.

The fact that all of it wasn't real didn't change the fact that they were all scared for there lives. Once the simulation was cancelled, Kayden had suddenly appeared out of the creature's belly. Also, the burning sensation he was feeling suddenly disappeared. It looked like that was part of the simulation as well. Once they had come together, their instructor had suddenly appeared, not looking quite happy by the results of their performance.

Seeing her expression, the three of them suddenly felt like the beast wasn't the scariest thing they were going to see today. The woman then went on to explain to them what they had done wrong and what they should have done during the simulation.

"The beast you had encountered through the simulation is called a Dogtooth. So far, it is believed that it has no weaknesses. As you have experienced, its drool is highly acidic and poisonous. You're lucky that it wasn't real. In the real world, if you ever end up being in contact with its drool, then the chances of you surviving are very slim. The only way you can actually defeat such a creature is by overpowering it. So, for the next week, you all will be training using the simulation, until you are able to kill the beast.

"Also, that beast will not be the oy thing you will fat in the simulation. You will also encounter other beasts and travelers as well. I'm sure you are well aware of the existence of travellers who venture into other worlds to hunt down beasts for their Mana cores. Although you will not gain Mana cores from killing beasts here, you will be getting something else for your hard work.

"For everything or person you kill, you will be given a Mana potion. A Mana potion is a substance that has the ability to replenish your Mana. However, other than that, certain Mana potions are able to increase your Mana holding capacity. While ability users can naturally grow stronger by exerting themselves, this is also another, easier way of gaining strength."

While listening to what she was saying, Kayden was also practicing total concentration breathing to regain his Mana. After over a week at the academy, his Mana holding capacity had increased by five thousand. Meaning that he could recover his Mana all the way up to fifteen thousand. He was glad that he was deriving hood results from all this training and couldn't wait until the next time the simulation began.

He may not be a match for the Dogtooth for now, he made a mental note of avoiding it next time. He planned on first growing stronger by killing weaker creatures before eventually making his way to challenging the Dogtooth for a rematch once he felt like he was ready and that he could kill the beast.

"The simulation that was set for you had created an environment almost identical to one of the planets that had recently been discovered outside Earth's own solar system. This planet is covered by everything purple. There, you will find purple vegetation, purple rocks, and even purple beasts. Although not all the beasts tag dwell on that planet are purple. Moreover, explorers and adventurers are yet to fully explore this planet so it hasn't been confirmed whether or not it is truely safe for civilians.

"I believe you all should know about this. Although multiple planets have been discovered on this solar system we like to call the Red Solar System, not a single planet has been fully explored. So, there are still many things about those planets that we do not know about. I will stop here for now. Once it is time for the exploration course, you will be provided with more information regarding the planet where it will be taking place. I cannot guarantee you that you will be taking the course on this particular planet. Just hope that you will, and that you will use whatever it is I have been saying so far s expo to do your best."

Hearing what she had said, they couldn't help but feel like she was doing her best to ensure that they would pass, while at the same time putting them through a hellish training regiment. Kayden and the others were taking in everything she was saying as she continued.

"Now, before you go for a second try at the simulation, I will tell you the things you could have done in order to survive. For one, jumping straight into a waterfall is foolish. Dogtooths love water and are excellent swimmers. Plus, it allows their drool yo quickly spread and affect whoever or whatever is in the water. You two were lucky that you made it out on time. As for you, Kayden, your form seems to have a level of resistance to the poison. It wasn't until you came into contact with the concentrated version that you started feeling its effects.

Instead of leading it into watch, you should try leading it outside the forest abd into the open. Remember, beasts are still animals. And so, they obey the rule of the food chain. Since you are not strong enough to kill a Dogtooth, it would be wise to lead it towards its natural enemy, the Ruke. Even if its body gets taken away, you will be rewarded for leading the creature towards its demise."

Once the instructor was done with her explanation, she ordered them to remain where they were as she walked away once again. Not long, and the environment changed once again. Before the Dogtooth, or even something more dangerous, appears, the trio decided to head out of the forest, into a large, purple desert.

Fortunately, they hadn't stumbled across a Dogtooth, meaning that they could focus on slaying other beasts and gaining Mana potions for their effort. After walking for a while on the desert, it wasn't long until they could see something up ahead.

It looked like a scorpion, except that it was as large as a house. As though it had sensed them, it started to dash towards them. The creature was kicking up a large amount of dust behind it as it ran, making it look like a sandstorm was following closely behind it. The three students got ready to face off against the beast, while Kayden had activated his Inspect skill to learn about this new beast.
