Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

An Alpha

Kayden kept on travelling towards wherever on foot. So far, all he could see was the sight of large, purple trees, and shrubs including all other sorts of vegetation. It seemed like the adventurer had gone out of his way to clear this path of beasts as well. Moreover, he wasn't sure if he was even strong enough to go up against a strong basic grade beast. The last three he had encountered in the past-the Dogtooth, the Scorpanion, and the Deranged Viper, were all far stronger than him.

Right now, what he was looking for was a way to grow stronger. Currently, his Mana holding capacity was at seventeen thousand. After what he had been through over the last two days, he could feel that his body had gotten stronger from the experience. Still, he didn't feel like it was going to be enough.

He needed items such as Mana potions to help increase his Mana holding capacity, and also, he needed this system to give him quests to complete.

After travelling for a while, he had eventually made it to a rocky terrain where all that he could see for miles was nothing but the purple hard terrain. Looking ahead, he noticed that there were a few beasts here and there, but they were few and far between. They were of a different beast species, one that resembled spiders back on Earth. Using his inspect skill, information about the creature were brought up. There wasn't anything special about them.

[Inspect]

[Arachnymphs: Eight-legged, social creatures with strong, powerful legs and jaws. They prefer to feed on remains of dead beasts, humans, and any other form of flesh. They prefer to live in groups of up to fifty individuals. They are dominated by a single Alpha, who helps to keep the community safe and enjoys the major benefits of being the boss.]

[Variations of the beast include Infant Arachnymphs, Juvenile Arachnymphs, and Colossal Arachnymphs.]

[Infant Arachnymphs tend to spend most of their time around their mothers. It is quite rare to see an infant out in the open on their own.]

[Meanwhile, the Juvenile Arachnymphs are the working members of the community. The Alpha delegates duties to them, while they perform those duties to ensure the safety and longevity of the group]

'These beasts seem far more intelligent and organized than the others I had encountered. Still, that doesn't make them as strong as the others,' with this thought in mind, his body began to transform, before he rushed towards the beasts, proceeding to kill them off one by one. Seeing as it was quite easy to deal with them, Kayden was more interested in wiping out the community and claiming the Mana potions for himself.

In the midst of his killing spree, it was then that one of the beasts had let out a cry, before Kayden rushed towards it to silence it, by ripping its head off with his sharp claws. So far, Kayden had managed to eliminate fifteen out of twenty of the creatures in the area, however, seeing as how this intruder had effortlessly kill so many of their comrades, the remaining survivors decided to make a run for it, retreating deeper into their territory.

Not having anything else to do, Kayden decided to chase after them. He was far faster than the beasts, allowing him to quickly close the distance between them, then killing off the remaining beasts who tried to run away. Now, all that was left was to consume all the Mana potions he had earned.

He was about to pick up one of the glass viles, when he could suddenly feel the ground vibrating violently. Looking ahead, his eyes are wide in shock as his inspect skill gave him information about the creature racing towards him.

[Colossal Arachnymph: These are beasts which have gained enough power to evolve into an advanced state. Using the power it had gathered over the years, a Colossal Arachnymph is able to easily become the Alpha of a community. The only one that that challenge them for this position is another Colossal Arachnymph]

[These creatures possess the ability to shoot venom from their mandibles. This venom is not only strong enough to melt Earth and metal in seconds, but it also has a bizarre effect on stronger foes. I advice you don't get in contact with the venom.]

Reading the system message, memories of what had happened during the first day of the simulation training, when he and the others had encountered the Dogtooth, had flashed through his mind. He remembered the excruciating pain he had gone through after being beaten by the beast. He wasn't ready to relive that trauma all over again.

Turning back, he began to sprint as far as he could, doing his best to outrun this Alpha, however, it seemed as though this creature boasted superior speed as well, being able to quickly get close to him, before spewing out its venom from its mandibles. The moment the venom touched the ground, a loud sizzling sound could be heard, as the ground began to melt away at a rapid pace.

Kayden wasn't sure if he was going to make it out of there in one peace. Slowly, the creature was gaining on him, he was sure that this was going to be the end, until a large flash of lightning had descended from the sky, landing between him and the Colossal Arachnymph.

As the bright light began to dim, a man with long red hair and adventurers' clothing clothing could be seen. In his hands, he had charged attacks ready to deal damage to the Alpha. Wasting no time, he used his ability to shoot himself up in the air, using his lightning to deflect the venom heading his way. Also, he had coated his entire body in lightning, ensuring that not a drop of it would you have his skin.

'This Alpha's Mana crystal is really gonna help out a lot!' he yelled internally, jabbing his hand straight into the forehead of the beast. By condensing his lightning round his hand, he was able to form a bladed object that allowed him to penetrate the hard exoskeleton of the beast, before channelling more of his power into the beast, causing its whole body to light up as it hissed out in pain.

Then suddenly, the creature burst open, black beast blood spewing in every direction, internal organs and bone broken and burnt by the lightning. Landing on the ground, the adventurer looked at the sight before him and then walked towards where he hoped to find the Mana core. After digging through roasted bones and flesh, he had eventually found what he was looking for, before placing it in his storage device.

'Now, should I keep on doing deeper into the community or do I head back and finally kill off that furry beast?' he wondered, bringing out a gold coin from his pocket.

'Heads, I go after the beast. Tails, and I continue down this path in search of other beasts to kill,' he thought, before flipping the coin in the air. The coin spun in the air a couple of times before falling back down and landing on his palm. Placing it on top of the back of his other hand, he uncovered the coin, causing him to shrug his shoulder before looking in the direction where the beast had ran off to.

'I guess we'll see each other next time,' he thought, before completely shrouding himself in lightning, shooting off into the sky and disappearing in the clouds.

Kayden had made it back to the cave where he and the adventurer had stayed before. Panting heavily, his body was in a state of panic. Looking back, he was expecting to see either the Colossal Arachnymph, or even the adventurer with the lightning ability. However, after a couple minutes, neither one of the had shown up, which only made him panic more.

Back in the simulation room, the instructor was watching and taking mental notes if everything that was taking place. Seeing this adventurer appear once again, her mind had drifted someplace else before she eventually shook her head, refocusing on what was going on in the simulation.

Kayden had managed to escape danger once again. However, now, he wasn't sure of what he would do. On one hand, there was the vast, purple desert filled with all sorts of dangerous monsters. And on the other, there was the community of Arachnymphs, possibly having more that one Colossal amongst themselves.

It was then that he began to hear the sound of footsteps and people talking. It seemed like there were others who were interested in this hunting ground and had decided to make the travel all the way across the desert just to get here. The fact that they seemed to be many, and that they were so confident in being so loud, made him think that these people might be quite strong as well. Not wanting to reveal himself, he quickly cancelled his transformation, before going to hide behind a bunch of large rocks, hoping that they were just passing by and won't look behind the rock and find him.
