Chai Ying (2)

Chapter 18 – Chai Ying fights (2)

Executing another hand seal Chai Ying injected a large sum of his Qi into the earth and in the blink of an eye he was maneuvering through the lightening bolts. Of course although he was extremely fast he wasn't able to move faster then the speed of light so the bolts had an advantage over him so there was no way for him to actually dodge all the lightening strikes but that didn't stop him for running straight toward the Wyvern.

He was moving quickly, dodging this and that, and then Just as he was about to be hit by a lightening strike the earth rumbled and rose up to meet the lightening strike. Both the lightening and earth dispersed in an instant, but the earth immediately gathered again following and flowing around Chai Ying's body as he ran.

Chai Ying was paying close attention to the clouds, he could judge where the lightening would probably land based on where it lit up first in the sky. This wasn't an exact science for him because lightening was always so erratic. That made it increasingly difficult to anticipate where it would land so he used the earth would to pick up the slack.

He moved carefully through the strikes and with great effort slow covered the distance between him and the wyvern. The earth around him moved about him like a living creature. Some of it curled around him like a snake. While other pieces the size of small boulders hovered around him ready to be combined and used to block lightening strikes or to be used as stepping stones for him to maneuver on.

As he dodged he also started on a complicated set of hand seals. The earth all around him once again began to move as he called upon the earth to bend to his will. The ground cracked and shifted as large boulders were pulled out and thrown with tremendous force at the wyvern. These were large pieces of earth that had been pulled from deep within the ground. They were made as solid as metal from the enormous pressure forced on them from the earth itself.

Of course this wasn't enough to truly injure the Wyvern despite the amazing speed that they were being thrown at it. In fact the boulders didn't even make it to the wyvern they were stopped by the lightening. This directed more of the lightenings attention away from him and towards something else, allowing him to move more swiftly toward the wyvern.

Chai Ying pushed off of one of the stepping stones and slammed his fist into the same head whose skull he'd previously fractured. This halted it in the middle of healing.

As if Chai Ying would give it enough of a breathing room to recover.

Earth formed underneath his feet and he pushed off of it hard dodging the other heads attempt to swallow him whole.

Earth kept forming under his feet as he retreated and attacked as the opportunities appeared and disappeared.

Bai Mei Li who was nearly half a mile away had been watching the entire thing. She had no memory of anyone in the previous owner life's being able to use this type of elemental Qi so easily. His Qi appeared to be far to versatile. He seemed to be capable of merging with the earth itself, but the previous Bai Mei Li hadn't been taught that all elements worked like this.

The earth, water, and metal elements were considered the most useless because of the fact that it was believed that they couldn't be used exactly the way Chai Ying was using his right now.

Her ice elemental Qi could easily draw upon the the water naturally in the air then with her innate ability to change the temperature of the water her attribute became an ability that she could fight with. While the degree of innate talent differed from one person to the next nearly all ice attributed cultivators could fight with their ice Qi.

Those unfortunate people that were only born with the water attribute but didn't have that natural ability to manipulate its temperature often didn't have enough control over the water to utilize it in battle. It was not understood why certain water attributed cultivators had the ability to control the water to the extent that they could manipulate it enough to effort to weaponize it. It was thought that this was due to a lack of innate talent.

The same was for earth and metal. They just couldn't utilize their Qi enough to do much more then strengthen their bodies. For metal attributed practitioners if their Qi was strong enough they would be able to strengthen their weapons considerably but that was all. So they tended to be weapons smiths to make a living.

If they happened to be lucky enough to have been born with a fire attribute as will they could be considered as an individual with a bright as a weapons smith, but not as a cultivator… unless their fire attribute was strong.

Yet she was watching Chai Ying manipulate the earth as though it were an extension of himself. She wasn't confused because she wasn't actually a person of this world so she pretty much assumed that this was due to a lack of knowledge. Clearly Chai Ying knew something they didn't. Bai Mei Li was just curious about what that 'something' was.

Bai Mei Li was searching through all of her memories trying to remember techniques that she'd read that allow earth cultivators to maneuver like Chai Ying was right now and she found none at all.

It was probably because the previous owner simply hadn't had enough life experiences so she was unaware. Or the people that had nurtured her didn't know themselves. That seemed more likely. But she'd only been interested in advancing her ice Qi. She hadn't even focused much, if any, energy into her fire Qi. It was completely under developed and totally useless in a fight.

Bai Mei Li couldn't really understand her rationale in that decision. Wasn't it better to be well rounded. Maybe if she'd developed her fire Qi she would have had more cards to play and wouldn't of ended up as she had in that last fight.

"why aren't you singing anymore elder sister?" Xiao Jun looked up at Bai Mei Li pitifully with his blindfolded face.

Bai Mei Li looked at the child in her eyes heartbrokenly. Just how many songs had she sang to him now? How could he have not gotten enough? Just until when will he of had enough?

"Jun'er haven't you had enough now?" She said, pleading clear in her voice.

"I like sisters songs. I want to hear more." He said also with a pleading tone.

"How about I just take a break?"

"But sister already took a break. Sister hasn't been singing for a long time now."

"…"

It had barely been five minutes okay? How could that be considered a long time?

Feeling extremely helpless she thought back on her last song and started sing the next song on her play list which was. "Fly away" by G.E.M

Xiao Jun immediately settled down as he listened. The reason why he liked Bai Mei Li's songs was because they all told a story about something. He could tell even at his age that these were the problems and feels of real people and he liked the comfort the songs appeared to give. He rested his head back down on her should and once again became silent.

Bai Mei Li on the other hand felt like crying. She was really starting to regret singing to him. It didn't feel like this child would get tired of it anytime soon. When she looked down at him, he appeared to be very comfortable but also showed no signs of going to sleep.

She sighed inwardly and kept singing. She didn't have a choice as it was better then him being scared by what was going on.

Once she resigned herself to fate she turned back to the fight. This was a rare opportunity for her to witness such a high level battle.

"Earth breaking chain!" Chai Ying shouted and then finished another complicated hand seal and chains made purely from earth formed and quickly began to to sneak around the body of the wyvern.

The beast shrieked with anger and instantly began to struggle. It's immense body wanted break the chains, but it wouldn't matter. The chains were made of earth and so long as Chai Ying had enough Qi the earth chain would never stop regrowing.

While the chains were gathering around the wyvern… breaking then regrowing… Chai Ying was already starting another hand seal.

The grin on his face had never left, through out all of this he had appeared as though he was having a tremendous amount of fun. He'd really got to stretch this time. He was happy he was because he was about to gain something very useful.
