Commander In Chief

"I'll throw in a few questions too! Who knows, maybe the genius can spark some inspiration!" remarked one of the Jaegar designers, setting a trend among the group.

Such behavior became increasingly common among this cohort of Jaegar designers. Each one considered themselves a chosen prodigy, brimming with confidence and conviction.

However, Jack's inexplicable feats had thrust him into the spotlight, his performances seemingly beyond belief yet lacking evidence of fraud—at least for the time being.

Their tests were not fueled by malice; rather, they stemmed from genuine curiosity and a desire for confirmation. Was there truly such a genius among them? Could he persuade them?

Pooling their collective knowledge and even resorting to private information, the group of Jaegar designers swiftly formulated a barrage of questions. Within a day, the questions were finalized, reviewed, and submitted to the system.

Rarely did Jaegar designers undertake such concerted efforts for a single cause. Typically, they pursued individual research within their own sanctuaries, only collaborating with their research teams when necessary. Collective actions, such as awards ceremonies or celebratory gatherings, were few and far between, often met with opposition.

To them, such endeavors were perceived as time-wasting. Why engage in superficial ceremonies when that time could be better spent conducting groundbreaking research and producing tangible results?

Each Jaegar designer was regarded as a vital asset to the nation, their voices and actions carefully scrutinized by their superiors.

While their superiors held titles of authority—such as the commander-in-chief—the true balance of power often leaned towards the collective will of the group.

This particular designer wasn't your typical one, though. He wasn't the kind who waded through the daily chaos of "figure it out," "revise it again," or "I want colorful black," "I think the first draft is better."

"Any issues with the intel?" asked Robert, the commander-in-chief of shatterdome, his brow furrowed as he sat in the modest office.

"The review team checked everything, and it all checks out. The only odd thing..." the secretary began, "is that everyone who could confirm the authenticity of these materials is deceased, leaving behind only written and electronic records."

"They're all dead?" Robert paused, absorbing the information.

"Yes, all of them. But their deaths were confirmed as natural causes, every single one," the secretary sighed, "So, it's chalked up to coincidence, I guess."

"So many coincidences?" Robert tapped his desk thoughtfully.

"Theoretically, it's possible. Empirically, though..." The secretary hesitated, "I doubt it."

"Haven't seen you stumped in a while," Robert chuckled.

"Remember when you asked me to look into the monster's origin last time?" The secretary's expression soured at the memory.

"I initially thought it was just fake news..." Robert sheepishly admitted, swiftly changing the subject. The secretary had been with him for ages, the most trusted and capable assistant he had. Their dynamic was more relaxed, like brothers most of the time. "How about those Jaegar designers? Have you assigned them their tasks?"

"Yeah, they're pretty intrigued by this guy. From their discussions, it seems they've upped the ante on the test questions, eager to put this 'genius' to the test," the secretary reported.

"Well, that should be interesting," Robert grinned, setting aside the stack of documents in his hand. "Let's wait and see the results first. I'm getting curious about this individual now. If he manages to pass all those tests and earns the respect of all the Jaegar designers..."

"It sounds like something out of a fantasy," the secretary remarked, trying to wrap her head around Robert's words. "It's almost too unbelievable to even consider..."

"Monsters and otherworldly occurrences, coupled with a genius stumbling upon crucial information through sheer coincidence... Why is that so hard to fathom?" Robert shook his head. "Let me tell you, if such a prodigy were to surface, given the current circumstances, even if there were doubts about the data, it would be imperative to bring them in and harness their technological prowess!"

"Those people..." The secretary caught herself mid-sentence, realizing it wasn't her place to discuss them.

Those individuals weren't on Robert's level to warrant discussion.

"Hmph, they're just a bunch of self-centered fools, only concerned about their immediate gains and maintaining their comfort!" Robert scoffed. "As long as I'm around, they won't be able to recklessly tread down that path to their own demise!"

The secretary remained silent, understanding the boundaries of his role even within the confines of Robert's office. It was a matter of status and self-awareness. Unless directly asked by Robert for input or advice, he knew better than to interject.

As a competent secretary, knowing when to speak and when to stay silent was a fundamental skill.

"Keep me updated on the developments there. Once the test results are out, inform me promptly, regardless of the outcome," Robert instructed.

"Understood."
