Chapter 17:Reunited with the Past

The café buzzed around them, but Liu Wei and Lin Yue sat in a cocoon of shared emotion, their hands intertwined across the table. The revelation of their true identities had stunned them both into silence, each grappling with the weight of the past and the possibilities of the future.

Liu Wei's mind raced. The girl he had searched for, the friend who had saved him from despair, was here—Lin Yue, the woman he had grown to care for so deeply. But questions lingered, unanswered and urgent. Why had their paths diverged so dramatically? What had happened in the years they were apart?

"Lin Yue," he began, his voice thick with emotion, "I can't believe it's really you. After all these years, I thought I had lost you forever. But there's so much I don't understand. Why didn't you ever try to find me?"

Lin Yue's eyes filled with tears as she looked at Liu Wei, the boy from her past and the man she had come to love. "I thought I had lost you too, Wei," she said softly. "After the accident, my whole world fell apart. Losing my parents, my sight—it was too much. I didn't even know if you survived. I didn't know how to find you."

Liu Wei squeezed her hand, his heart aching for the pain she had endured. "I'm so sorry, Lin Yue. I tried to come back for you, but—" He paused, taking a deep breath. "After the accident, I was found and taken away by my family. They had been searching for me all those years. They were overjoyed to find me alive, and they wouldn't let me go. I was too young to understand how to fight back or find my way back to you."

Lin Yue's eyes widened in realization. "So, your family took you back? That's why you disappeared so suddenly?"

Liu Wei nodded, his grip on her hand tightening. "Yes. They moved me far away, and I lost all contact with you. I was desperate to return, but they kept me close, afraid of losing me again. It was only when I grew older and gained my independence that I could begin to search for you."

Tears streamed down Lin Yue's cheeks as the truth of their separation sank in. The boy she had thought she had lost forever had been taken from her, just as her world had crumbled around her. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, her voice breaking. "I thought you had abandoned me. I didn't know."

Liu Wei shook his head, his eyes brimming with unshed tears. "No, Lin Yue. I never wanted to leave you. You were my world, my only family. I've spent every day since then searching for you, hoping to find you again."

They sat in silence for a moment, the enormity of their shared history hanging between them. The pain of their separation, the years of searching, all seemed to dissolve in the light of their reunion.

"I changed my name to Lin Yue to start over, to leave behind the pain of losing you and my family," she explained. "I tried to forget, but I never could. Deep down, I always hoped that somehow, we would find each other again."

Liu Wei reached into his pocket and pulled out the crescent moon pendant, holding it out to her. "This pendant was my lifeline, the only thing that kept me going. I promised myself I would find you and make things right."

Lin Yue took the pendant, her fingers brushing against its familiar contours. She pulled out her own half of the pendant, hidden away for so long, and held it up beside Liu Wei's. The two halves fit together perfectly, a testament to the bond that had never truly been broken.

As they looked at the reunited pendant, a sense of peace washed over them both. The pieces of their past had finally fallen into place, and they could begin to move forward together.

"Lin Yue," Liu Wei said softly, his voice filled with determination, "we've both been through so much, but I believe we were always meant to find each other again. Our destinies are intertwined, and I'm not going to let you go. Not ever again."

Lin Yue looked into his eyes, her heart swelling with a mix of love and relief. "I've missed you so much, Wei. I don't want to lose you again either. Let's face whatever comes next, together."

They embraced, their hearts beating as one, their shared past and uncertain future binding them together in a promise of unbreakable unity.
