Opening the door, I saw an unfamiliar sight.
Instead of the hallway to the bar, all I saw was darkness, before a ball of light started shining.
Knowing what to do, as the protagonist had experienced the same thing in the book, I started walking towards the ball.
I learned quickly that as much as I walked, it always seemed as if the ball was getting further and further away.
By now, most people would have stopped and given up, but I kept on going, as the protagonist had done the same thing and had received a huge reward at the end.
That's right, this is the infamous final test.
Every single person that had been given the opportunity to get a job had done it, and so far, only 5 had ever passed with flying colors.
I was planning to be the 6th.
All the test did was measure your potential by testing your tenacity and mental endurance, as in this space, you wouldn't get sore or tired no matter what, and you didn't even need to sleep.
So I continued walking.
But, after what seemed like a year of endless walking had passed, I realized something.
At the end of the protagonist's exam, the AI had clearly stated that, "You are the 5th person to endlessly move, that sheer determination reflects your potential."
The key words here were "endlessly move".
If I only needed to endlessly move, then couldn't I use all this time to train?
It was only then that I realized that I had no weapons on me.
And when I tried magic, nothing would appear.
So, in lew of the theme of walking, I decided to work on my footwork.
At first, I just stepped around randomly, trying my best to imitate what I had read in all those murim xianxia novels.
I kept tripping over my own to feet, but persisted and always got back up again.
It was only after another 3 months of hard work that something appeared in the back of my mind.
It was a memory, a memory of an unfamiliar body standing in a dark cave, the only light coming from torches that lined the walls.
Along with many other children, this body was busy practicing a footwork in front of scary looking guards.
Day after day this child practiced, until finally, he came to an understanding.
He realized that a footwork was not just a series of steps, but an overall flowing movement, one that was not bound by where you put your feet, but how you move your feet.
With this enlightenment, the boy quickly surpassed his peers.
When the boy turned 13, he soul was forced out as I took over his body.
I then integrated his memories with mine, and proceeded with his life, although I don't remember what my goal was back then.
"Ding!"
[Congratulations to the host for starting your procedural synchronization!]
[Synchronization - "Second Life Murim Hero": 0% -> 10%]
[You have remembered, "The 4 Steps of the Blood Moon."]
As I saw these messages that appeared at the edge of my vision, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
It truly seemed that my guess had been correct, and that I had indeed transmigrated into all these novels before this transmigration, it was just that I had forgotten.
'But this transmigration was a result of my death, so do I return back at the end?'
'Well, there's no point in ruminating over my questions right now, I need to use this time to train!'
Shaking myself out of my stupor, I started practicing.
'First is, "The 24 Steps of the crescent moon."'
These introductory steps in the "Blood Moon" series helped beginners learn the nature of this footwork, which focused on speed and deception.
After I "remembered" the flow of the steps, it only took me a week to remaster it.
'Next is, "The 16 Steps of the Half Moon."'
The intermediate steps of the "Blood Moon" series expanded on the nature of the footwork, forcing the practitioner to move faster and be even more deceitful.
I accomplished mastery of the intermediate level before the 2nd week ended.
'Afterwards there's, "The 12 Steps of the Gibbous Moon."'
The advanced steps of the "Blood Moon" series pushed its practitioner to their limits, allowing the user to move at speeds faster than sound, and also allowed them to attack when practicing the movement.
It took me a month to master it, although it wasn't full mastery as I was unable to wield a weapon during the time.
'The third to last step is, "The 8 Steps of the Full Moon."'
By achieving mastery in this, a practitioner could be considered a powerhouse in the world of the novel, "Second Life Murim Hero", with their footwork alone.
It took me half a year to ingrain the flow into my body again.
'The second to last step is, "The 6 Steps of the New Moon."'
All I had to say about this step in the series was that one could become a saint with full mastery.
It took me ten years to truly figure it out.
'Hoo, finally, I'm on the last step.'
'The final step, "The 4 Steps of the Blood Moon."'
At this point, I couldn't even describe the power in this footwork, as I had not landmarks in the dark world to judge my speed and power.
All I could figure out after finally mastering it again was that it took me more than half a century to master.
As I finished, I could only lament at my situation.
You see, the only reason that I could even practice this footwork up to full mastery was due to the special effects of this space.
If I had to estimate it, my body in the outside world would probably self implode after a second of using, "The 16 Steps of the Half Moon," as I was only thirteen after all.
'Well, it's been more than 100 years, so the AI should be appearing right about now.'
And, just like I had thought, the AI appeared mere minutes after my conjecture.
"Wow! This is a first for me. Did you know that you actually spent 150 years training in this space?"
"I was going to stop you after 100 years, but it seemed like you wanted to keep on practicing, which I highly encourage myself, so I didn't disturb you."
"Well, as you are the 7th person to reach 100 years, passing the test with flying colors, you will be able to get the best rewards."
'Oh, so it seems like the other transmigrator took the 6th spot, after the protagonist.'
"But, due to the fact that you actually went above and beyond, I'll give you an additional gift."
"So, wanna take a look at them now?"
