Admission Exam (8) - 17

The rest of the exam went by in a blur.

Our strategy for the most part was to literally just watch the TV until one of the pictures on the second row dimmed, waiting for one of the doors surrounding the stadium to open.

We would then just bum rush the person that came out, and because we were probably the two strongest on this train, we easily killed the unsuspecting newcomers before a look of surprise could even cross their face.

Of course, I also paid attention to who was coming, making sure that we didn't kill some important figure, so as to not disrupt the flow of the story as much as possible.

In the end, just like in the original story, only 5 people were left.

The first two were Markus and me, while the second two were the Bathory twins, a pair of fraternal twins that possessed their family's Blood Magic, a subsect of Water Magic, that had been passed down through generations.

The last examinee that passed through was just the lucky last person that was slow enough to be the last person to finish the second round.

"Okay guys, stop fighting! As you're the final five, you've all passed the admission exam on the Train to Purgatory! Congratulations!"

Exhausted, we limply hung our weapons to our sides, getting out of our fighting stances, letting our bodies relax after being in a tense, strained situation for hours.

"You all will stay on this train for two more days, one day to rest and recuperate, while the last day will be used to get your ranking, rewards, and finally, I will help you choose your job."

They went on to say some other things, but I wasn't listening as I thought about what I was going to do.

'If everything went smoothly, and the other transmigrator didn't do anything, then I'm pretty sure that my plan is still valid. Just, the most dangerous part will be initiated in the days to come.'

Ruminating over my plan once again, checking to see if any anomalies that would affect the situation with my OCD, I nodded to myself as everything seemed to be in order.

'May god bless the souls of the departed.'

I quickly recited a prayer for the deceased, before then returning to the room that I had used when waiting for the rest of the examinees at the end of the 2nd carriage trial.

After taking a shower to refreshen my body, I immediately collapsed onto the bed in my night clothes.

Slowly, the emotions that I had pushed and kept down with the adrenaline during the exams started bubbling up.

Sorrow, regret, and anger at myself for committing an unforgivable sin over and over again. The bloodied, shocked faces of my victims flashed through my mind, again and again.

My eyes started welling up with tears and my lips started trembling, my chest fluctuating.

I quietly sobbed myself to sleep that night.

...

Even though we were given a whole 24 hours to rest, I still woke up after 7 hours of sleeping, strictly disciplining my body.

Getting up, I looked at my reflection in the mirror.

It appeared that I had changed back to this body's original form, as I looked at the familiar, yet unfamiliar figure in the mirror, dressed in silver silk night clothes. My eyes were still red from the crying and my long white hair that reached my waist was all tangled up.

I reached out and touched the cold surface of the mirror, where my forgettable face was.

"You have now joined the ranks of the hellbound, haven't you?" I whispered to myself.

I started quietly laughing at myself, before combing my hair and changing into presentable clothes.

I changed my face and hair color back to that of Akimitsu Dokusha, the handsome faced paired with the short, midnight black hair.

Putting on the cloth mask with the number 3477 on it, I walked out of my room.

Down the corridor, their was a small bar serving alcoholic drinks and food.

The bartender was dressed as a noble's butler, and probably was or used to be one.

I watched as he made a drink by mixing sweetened cherry juice and soda, before putting an olive on top and placing it in front of Markus.

I had to kind of climb up onto the bar stool, as I was still comparable short compared to the rest of the examinees, before ordering just a diet cola.

Keeping my eyes on the bartender, I started softly whispering to Markus.

"Thanks for listening to my suggestion earlier. As a token of my appreciation, I'll give you two small tips."

He turned his head in surprise, but I kept staring at the bartender's hands as he placed my cola in front of me.

"Try as hard as possible to recruit the Bathory twins into your circle, their talents will be immensely useful."

I grabbed my cola and took a swig of it before hopping out of my chair.

As I walked past the back of Markus' figure, I whispered even softer,

"And also, if you happen to get an offer from someone who is "unique" like me, then it'll be in your best interest to accept."

With those parting words, I left Markus in his stupor.

'With that, I'll never have to see him again.'

The entire reason I had done this was to give a "gift" to the other transmigrator.

If they were smart, they would know that they needed a shadowy power behind them, one that would do their dirty work for them.

At the beginning of my transmigration, I had considered nurturing Markus Lochen so that I could use the Assassin's Guild, but because I had my "sisters" I really didn't need this anymore as they were training to be the perfect assassins.

So, naturally, if I didn't take this opportunity, then the other transmigrator would obviously take it, so as to show that I meant no harm, as, in the first place, my plan required me to expose myself as a transmigrator to any other transmigrators, I practically needed to shout, "I come in peace!"

Now, it all depended on how Markus would take my words, the words of his overpowered junior.

As they day passed, I started making contingency plans, just in case my original plan failed.

Finally, the final day descended upon us.

"Did you all have a good rest? Well, it doesn't matter as you'll all be getting your jobs today."

They started with the lowest number, before calling us out in ascending order.

Finally, they called the fifth and final person out to the hall.

"Examinee number 3477, please step out into the hallway."

Pushing myself off the bed that I was probably going to see for the last time, I walked up to the door before twisting the handle.

"Click!"

That ends the Admission Exam Arc!
