While his parents were downstairs cooking dinner, James was sitting on his bed, tossing and catching his wand in the air. They preferred to prepare dinner the muggle way, taking their time and making everything from scratch, despite having magic and being able to do it instantly.
James was startled to hear someone knocking on the front door. His mother was already at the front door when he leaped to his feet, grabbed his wand, and hurried downstairs.
His family was classified as blood traitors; therefore, he was prepared to defend them in the event of an attack. He had heard of a group of followers who were uniting to fight any half-bloods, blood traitors, or muggleborns.
The door was opened by James's mother, Euphemia.
"Orion What are you doing here? what's happened?" questioned Euphemia.
James knew Orion was Sirius's father; why is he here? James thought to himself.
"Euphemia You need to take him. There is nowhere else I can take him. I can only think of you; you are the only ones I know I can trust. She's going to kill him. I need to get him out right now," Orion told Euphemia.
"Who's going to kill him? What are you talking about?" Euphemia asked.
"I need to go. I can't come in; she'll find out. he did some stupid little prank, and shes gone crazy; she's attacked him. I know she'll kill him if I don't get him out. enough is enough, I can't live with this anymore. I can't watch her do this anymore." Orion told Euphemia. "You need to take him, please."
"Of course we will, but what about regulus?" Euphemia asked.
"she's not starting on Regulus; she never has; she always starts on Sirius, and I don't know why she hates him so much; he's not the perfect child, and he's not what we originally planned, but he's still young, and he could still change, so I just tried to bear with it and wait, but no longer," Orion told Euphemia.
Euphemia turned around to look at her husband.
"Freamont i need your help; can you come here, please," Euphemia asked her husband.
Freamont walked quickly to the door, but James couldn't see what was going on since his parents were in the way.
James then noticed his dad put Sirius' arm around his shoulder and take him into the sitting room. James quickly followed his father, and that was when he noticed that Sirius was unconscious.
"What happened,?" James asked his father.
"I don't know, but I think it's bad." Freamont told him.
James heard the rest of the conversation his mother and Orion were having.
"She cast a spell on him, but it wasn't just any spell; it was incredibly strong, filled with fury, and filled with hatred, so its affected him in some way. I have tried using magic, but it hasn't worked, and I have no idea what it's done to him or how to fix it. I also can't wake him up " Orion informed Euphemia.
"We'll take him to St. Mungo's; they might know what's happened, and they might be able to fix it," Euphemia told Orion.
"Don't tell anyone what really happened, and don't tell anyone I've been here." for Regulus's sake; keep it quiet," Orion told Euphemia.
After giving it some thought, Euphemia decided to agree because she wanted to check on Sirius and because Regulus was a young child who needed to be protected in whatever way she could.
"Alright, for Regulus's and Sirius's sakes, no one else's," Euphemia told Orion.
Orion quickly disappeared, and Euphemia closed the door and went into the sitting room, where Sirius was now laying on the sofa, still unconscious.
"What did she do to him?" James asked his mother his mind was starting to fill with anger.
"I don't know there was some sort of prank or something, and his mother punished him and went too far. His father said that he thinks the next time she punishes him, she'll kill Sirius." Euphemia told James.
"Why would she do that to her own son?" James asked his mother.
"That is something none of us will ever understand, but what's important is getting him to St. Mungos and seeing if there's anything they can do. I'll turn dinner off and meet you two there." Euphemia told James and her husband.
"But why hasn't he woken up? Why couldn't his father fix it with magic? Pretty much all injuries are fixable with magic," James said.
"This might be one of the injuries that can't be fixed. That's why we need to take him to St. Mungos so we know for sure. The quickest way is through Apparition." Euphemia told him.
"I'll help dad. I've got to be there for Sirius; he's my best friend," James said.
"It will be okay, sweetheart. Whatever happens, we will all get through it." Euphemia smiled sadly at James and then left to turn the dinner off.
Freamont wrapped Sirius' arm around his shoulder again while James cast the spell, James then placed a hand on his dad's arm, and they disappeared. Euphemia followed minutes later.
