At this moment, a massive swirl of black fog suddenly rose from the distant mass of undead corpses. The black fog rolled toward the gathered mages who had yet to reach their strategic position like a sandstorm.
"Something big is coming!" shouted a Sky Eagle Mage flying above.
Before the Sky Eagle Mage's warning could fully register, a fleshy, tentacle-like appendage shot out from the black sandstorm at an incredible speed, piercing the air and striking the white eagle mid-flight.
The appendage resembled a long tongue or arm, but with a strange, elongated tumor-like form. The attack happened so quickly that the eagle couldn't even cry out. The creature's vital point was pierced, causing its body to stiffen mid-air, before convulsing uncontrollably.
"Gulp, gulp~~~"
The long, fleshy tendril began to pulse like a giant straw, as though it was sucking something out of the Sky Eagle's body and feeding it back into the black fog.
In just a few seconds, the once-powerful bird began to shrivel. Its muscular frame became emaciated, and its feathers lost their color, looking as though they'd been decaying for years. The creature now resembled a desiccated carcass, barely more than a skeleton, its once-beautiful plumage hanging limp like dried-out rags.
The Sky Eagle Mage fell from the sky in terror, his face drained of color, stricken with fear.
"There's a Corpse Minister ahead!" someone shouted in warning.
"I'll handle that Corpse Minister. You, Yao Nan, keep pushing forward!" Mo Fan said resolutely.
"Just you alone?" Yao Nan asked, stunned.
"Yes, just me!" Mo Fan replied without hesitation.
With that, Mo Fan shot toward the dark fog, Flame Belle already merging with him. Flames of blue and brown intertwined around him, and as he soared forward, he unleashed a blazing attack—an explosive, fiery punch—directly at the Corpse Minister's position.
"Boom!"
A scorching wave of fire spread outward in all directions. Despite the Corpse Minister's protection by several Corpse Generals, they were obliterated instantly by the force of Mo Fan's double flame attack. His flames were no ordinary fire—they were soul flames!
The fiery domain grew even hotter, and Mo Fan conjured a giant, blue fire lotus with ease.
Once formed, Mo Fan hurled the fire lotus directly at the grotesque Corpse Minister.
"Whoosh!"
The blue fire lotus flew straight at its target, and the Corpse Minister barely had time to react before it was struck.
"Boom!"
The fire lotus erupted in a violent explosion, like a volcanic eruption, scorching everything around it. Scores of undead perished in the blast, and Mo Fan claimed a soul essence from a Commander-level undead as his reward.
"Finally! I was starting to wonder when I'd see some payoff!" Mo Fan grinned as he pocketed the essence.
But just as he collected his spoils, the long, sinewy appendage that had earlier pierced the Sky Eagle lunged toward Mo Fan.
"Boom!"
Mo Fan dodged quickly, but the tendril tried to strike him again.
"Lonely Death Lightning: Thunder Arm!" Mo Fan retaliated. He wasn't about to stay in one spot and get skewered.
Although his control over the lightning element wasn't as strong as his fire magic, Mo Fan had honed his speed when drawing lightning constellations. With rapid precision, he summoned a concentrated lightning strike aimed directly at the Corpse Minister.
"Boom!!!"
"Rumble!"
The combination of fire and lightning was too much for the grotesque creature. It had already been weakened by the earlier fire lotus blast, and now, with Mo Fan's thunderous attack, the Corpse Minister collapsed, unable to withstand the destructive force.
Even after the Corpse Minister was defeated, the surrounding undead didn't retreat. Instead, they became more frenzied, swarming toward Mo Fan like mindless animals bent on destruction.
"Shadow Nail!"
"Thunderbolt!"
"Spatial Shift!"
"Fiery Fist!"
Mo Fan unleashed one skill after another, overwhelming the approaching hordes. Even without using high-level destruction magic, his mid-level magic was more than enough to hold the line.
With control over fire and lightning, and with shadow and spatial abilities supporting him, Mo Fan was more than equipped for large-scale combat.
After wiping out another wave of undead, Mo Fan's hand suddenly glowed with radiant gold!
As the golden light flared around him, the surrounding undead hesitated, no longer daring to approach. They instinctively feared light—especially one as blinding as this. At that moment, Mo Fan resembled a miniature sun, radiating with divine power.
"Ughhh!!!"
"Arrrghhhh!!!"
The undead, which had no sense of fear, now recoiled in terror, wailing at the sight of the golden radiance.
With a swift motion, Mo Fan formed the golden light into a long staff. With a single sweep of the staff, hundreds of undead were instantly obliterated under the absolute suppression of the light element.
"Hiss…" Mo Fan realized just how powerful the light element was against the undead. He was reinvigorated, and the golden staff in his hand quickly morphed into a long spear.
Wielding the spear, Mo Fan advanced with relentless speed, and none of the undead could withstand even one strike. Even Commander-level undead were felled in a single blow.
Meanwhile, Yao Nan and the others had escorted the team of Light Element mages to their destination, only to see Mo Fan still pushing further ahead, seemingly unstoppable.
What shocked them most was how easily Mo Fan was slaughtering the once-terrifying undead like they were sheep before a predator.
At that moment, Mo Fan gave off an overwhelming aura of savagery. His old acquaintances, such as Mu Bai, were left speechless by the sheer ferocity he displayed.
Their entire team couldn't match the level of destruction that Mo Fan was achieving on his own.
Most astonishing of all was that the terrifying Corpse Minister, a creature that had filled them with dread, had been casually dispatched by Mo Fan as though it was nothing more than a minor obstacle.
Yet, Yao Nan couldn't help but feel uneasy.
Had this guy gotten so caught up in the battle that he didn't realize he was pushing too far ahead?
"The Light Element mages are in position. You can retreat now—I'll go stop that madman," Yao Nan said, still marveling at Mo Fan's strength.
Despite his flamboyant demeanor, Yao Nan respected Mo Fan's abilities and certainly didn't want to see him fall here.
The others had no objections. They knew that thanks to Mo Fan, they had conserved their energy during the battle. Now that they were retreating as a group, getting back wouldn't be too difficult.
"Mo Fan! Mo Fan!!!" Yao Nan shouted as he approached Mo Fan from behind.
In the heat of battle, Mo Fan heard the distant calls and finally paused. The golden spear in his hand morphed into a shield of light, offering him protection as he looked up at Yao Nan.
"What's up?" Mo Fan asked, slightly confused.
Yao Nan, exasperated, descended and snapped, "Why the hell are you charging so far ahead? Our mission is complete, we can go back now!"
Only then did Mo Fan realize Yao Nan was here to fetch him.
"I know the mission is done, but I've got my own business to take care of," Mo Fan said seriously.
"And what business could you possibly have up ahead? That's where the Undead Lord resides!" Yao Nan barked in frustration.
"I need to enter the Dark Abyss. If I don't, the entire ancient capital will be doomed," Mo Fan said with conviction.
Yao Nan wanted to question whether Mo Fan even understood the gravity of what he was saying, but seeing the unwavering determination on Mo Fan's face, he knew there wasn't a trace of doubt.
