Chapter 13

“Do what?”

“You always seem to know when there are hungry boys around. Are you clairvoyant?”

She smiled at that and said, “Not at all. I heard noises and investigated. When I saw people running up and down the stairs carrying boxes, I started making sandwiches.”

The boys thanked her and, in short order, devoured a fair number of the sandwiches. When they’d finished, they excused themselves to go upstairs and check on Steve.

When they were well on their way upstairs, I said, “Philip, do you have any ideas with respect to entertaining the brothers for the next few days?”

“Well, for a start, I thought I’d give them some cash and suggest they might enjoy going to Six Flags tomorrow. I’ve also thought about taking them out to Stone Mountain on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

“Good. They’ll get tired of hanging around Steve’s room all day long, and that will give them some things to do.”
