A while later, Oalf called over to Ross."Time to head back in now, carry as much fire wood as you can." He headed inside the inn with the veggies from the garden. Ross gathered as much as his arms can carry. As he walked in and set the wood down, Oalf approached him holding a bow and a couple sacks. "Time for the hunt." He placed a bow and quiver in Ross' hands.
Moments later Oalf released the arrow that ended a boar-like creature. "So what are these strange creatures?" Ross asked as he helped cleaning it, though not so well. The creature had the body of a boar but with three eyes and four horns.
"Reemers, they are hostile and the horns are quite sturdy and useful." He said as he removed the four horns." Where did you learn to skin? Seems you have no experience with it." Oalf sighed as he pushed Ross aside and skinned the Reemer. "You have to cut at an angle where it'll sperate from the meat, otherwise you will butcher the meat." He showed Ross as he saw the already butchered meat.
After a while, Ross got used to skinning them somewhat but not as well as Oalf. "Kid let's see if you got any bow skills, next kill will be yours." He said as he pointed to a Reemer was eating berries off a bush.
Nodding, he drew the bow and arrow. He aimed down the arrow and lined it up. Taking a breath in, he released the arrow. As the arrow slid down the bow, the butt end hit the bow and sent the arrow flying sideways. The arrow smacked the Reemer, startling it. Ross and Oalf ducked behind the bushes and Oalf chuckled as he patted Ross' shoulder. "How did you even make it to the old man's inn without hunting? The road you came from is a long one."
Ross shrugged as he looked at the bow and sighed. "Honestly, luck I guess." He thought he had done what Oalf did when he fired the bow, what had he done wrong.
Oalf patted his back as he spoke."No worries you can learn as you pay...." Oalf stopped and his face got serious. He held up a hand as to keep the silence.
"What is I..." Ross was cut off by a loud thud of what sounded like a tree falling. He felt his heart sink as he looked were Oalf was, noting that even Oalf looked nervous.
"We must get going now." He said as he shouldered the equipment and stood swiftly."Keep up." Ross nodded as he followed.
'What was that, this pressure I'm feeling is intense..' Ross thought as he looked behind them, freezing at the sight of the beast that had Oalf become serious.
A low rumble sounded as a beast that seemed as though it stood above all. It's body was that of tree. bark, and it looked as though there was an ecosystem on it. Smaller animals inhabited it as it walked through the Forest.
Sighing in relief as they got back to the inn. Oalf ordered Ross as he rushed to the door." Bring all the equipment and food in, I need to take care of something." Oalf left Ross with everything and swiftly disappeared inside.
Firstly, Sorry it took a bit to get this chapter published. I had a bit of a writer's block, and work. I'll be trying my best to keep releasing chapters and making this entertaining. I appreciate all of you who read my first book here.
