Margaret put her attention on Sophia.
"Your classmates hit you? Why didn't you tell me?" she asked sternly.
Sophia gazed up at her mother but sheepishly turned her gaze away, and remained silent.
"Answer me," Margaret ordered. Her tone was calm but authoritative.
Sophia shook fearfully and voiced in a low tone, sounding almost guilty, "I- I did."
Margaret's brows twitched and her face contorted to one of deep anger.
"You're lying again!" she screamed.
"Don't yell at her," Eunice said as Sophia sought refuge at her side.
With the display, Lenny nodded imperceptibly.
'...I see. So this was what Sophia meant when she said her mother didn't care. With Margaret's words, like calling where she's living a dump, the extremely angry undertone she used when she mentioned the specific amount her husband spends on Sophia's tuition, and her occasional taunts about the school… it's very obvious she's unhappy about it all.
