Dragged Along

Entering the filth-infested room, Olivia couldn't but feel disgusted at the sight. Closing the door behind her, she made her way inside, stepping carefully over the multiple bags of trash.

Just in the entrance to the house alone, rats and cockroaches were all roaming around, hiding only after being faced with the sight of her hatred-burning eyes.

Olivia had never in all of her years in the Holy Academy, ever encounter such a situation, however, becoming used to getting dirty was something that all knights needed to learn.

She already had a clear image of the child she needed to talk to, but Olivia was soon taken aback at the difference in the images that were inside her head. Unlike the cheerful and smiling face, that the child had on his ID, the Jack that was in front of her, couldn't be any more different.

A frail-looking young man with pale skin and dark circles under his eyes, resting his back against the filthy wall, as he held onto a wine bottle that was broken in half. In his other hand, he cradled a can of beer, while also keeping a cigarette in his mouth.

Her eyes met with Jack's, and she could tell, no she already knew the eyes Jack had on his face. Eyes that were tired, eyes that were dead, eyes that had nothing but an abyss, eyes that had seen something, something that others shouldn't see...

'I shouldn't have taken this job.'

Jack who took notice of the lady, dropped his broken wine bottle on the ground, letting out a puff from the cigarette in his mouth.

"I don't have any money for a whore, just leave. Also, you shouldn't just sell your body"

Saying so, Jack tried to send the woman with a hand gesture, only for a vein to pop on the woman's forehead.

"Ok, first of all, I'm not a whor-"

"When you are dressed like that?"

Pointing out her revealing outfit, all Olivia could do was let out a sigh at her mistake.

"Yeah, yeah, I know it's a little revealing but whatever...I'm Olivia Windsor, an advisor for the Holy Academy."

Jack after hearing her introduction entered a deep thought, thinking about the information he had gathered over the past few days, recalling hearing about the so-called academy.

"I see, I can just drop out, right? I think that will be for the best, I'm not exactly into religious beliefs"

Olivia who stood before Jack, couldn't help but hide her confusion, not understanding the simple words coming out of Jack's mouth, she even wondered if all the alcohol and smoke had gone and rotted his brain.

Facepalming as she looked at the child smoking and drinking like a grown man, she started to question his stupidity, "Are you dumb? Did you fall on your head and lose your memorie-"

"Yes"

Olivia's eyes widened in disbelief, what she meant as a joke had now turned into reality, for a moment she doubted the legitimacy of the statement.

"Are you being honest?"

"Yeah, but I didn't exactly hit my head, in reality, I don't even remember what caused me to lose my memories"

Olivia remained silent, staring vacantly into Jack's completely black eyes, but in reality, she was extremely deep in thought.

'I shouldn't have accepted this sh*t job, now I have to do extra work.'

Olivia had remained still, continuing to think as all Jack did was drink and smoke, not bothering in paying any mind to the advisor standing in his room.

All of sudden, Olivia who was already frustrated at the fact, that she had lost her only rest day, told Jack to stand up and follow her.

Of course, Jack didn't do as she asked.

"I don't think I will do that, Olivia."

"That's Miss Olivia for you, child...And also, I don't have any time to waste."

"And I don't have any time to spare...How saddening, then how about you leave me alone"

The back and forth between the two continued, with Jack denying any requests to move around. Olivia who had already grown tired of the exchange, had already given up on helping Jack go around in the easy.

Instead deciding to use force to suppress her opponent. Jack who seemed unaware of her treacherous ideas, took out another beer from his dimensional bag, and in that moment Olivia attacked.

*Pfoom

*Sizzle

*Drip

Olivia who now stood in front of Jack's face, held onto his arm, as her face dripped with the bitter drink. Recalling what just had happened, Olivia found Jack's reaction speed to be outstanding. The moment Jack had turned to look down, to open his new can, Olivia rushed forward but in that slight moment, Jack's eyes immediately landed on her face, as he smacked her oncoming face with the beer Jack held on his left arm.

Exploding the moment it smashed against her pale skin, but even then, Olivia felt no real pain, and the normal attack that would maybe even knock out a grown man, had little to no effect on her.

Jack who noticed the situation at hand, didn't even have time to say another word, as he was put on a hold in a matter of seconds by Olivia. Now being carried around as if he was luggage, Olivia left the filthy room.

Putting Jack into her car, she drove away from Jack's apartment after tying him down using the seatbelts on the front seat.

Jack who had just been caught in a matter of seconds, pondered at the fact that such strong people existed in this advanced world.

'Flying cars?'

The more Jack found out about this world, the more he questioned his reality. How could such things exist, would be the thought of a man who would have traveled to the future, and that is exactly how Jack felt at the moment.

The car trip was silent, with not a world being mentioned between the two. Olivia was still mad at the fact that her clothes were ruined, and Jack was interested more in the outside world than the inside of the car.

However, the scenery outside had suddenly taken a change, no longer being in a town, the outside was more similar to a forest. And even as they went forward, Jack found it strange that not even a single wall stood to protect the towns.

'These people live as though the demons didn't exist.'

'If only the others had lived during these times.'

The outside scenery didn't change for much longer, with them soon arriving at an even more advanced location than before. Jack who was already surprised at the measly town he had stayed at before, could only be in shock at the incredible sight of this place.

Flying cars, airships, trains, skyscrapers, and more.

Olivia who watched as Jack turned his head from place to place, decided to slow down her pace, to at least let him see the world.

In the end, however, the scenery was short-lived, as they quickly arrived at the parking lot of what Jack could guess was a hospital.

'Oh, if it was a hospital, I would have said yes.'

Dragging Jack by the hood of his hoodie, the two of them made their way inside the already busy building, Olivia then proceeded to sit Jack down on a plastic chair that seemed to be extremely worn down, and left to talk to someone in the counter after telling Jack, with her bloodshot eyes to, "Stay still".

In the end, Jack did as she said, and they had already been allowed a consultation without having to wait for another second.

"Using your connections like this is amazing."

"Is not because of that, Candidates are given special care since they are most likely to awaken at any moment, so there are always doctors around to check on the situation."

'???'

But for some unknown reason instead of heading to the upper floors, Jack and Olivia started to go down an elevator, reaching the 5 underground floors.

Arriving at what seemed to be an armored room with medical equipment but an armored room no less. Seeing as how there were two chairs, Jack decided to take one and rest.

His body felt sluggish and tired after nights with no sleep. Even the dark bags under his eyes grew worst over the days.

Olivia instead of sitting next to Jack, stayed by the door of the room. Jack had thought of the possibility of this being a trap but soon discharged that thought as it didn't matter if it was. He didn't have the strength to fight back.

"What I'm I getting tested on?"

"Your head"

"Then why is there a need to incarcerate me, in an underground facility."

"It seems you really did lose your memory, it is due to the fact that many students are demonic humans, and there is the possibility of them running rampant so it's best to keep it this way."

"Demonic humans?"

'So the demonic humans did indeed have an effect on the future.'

"Yeah, demonic humans...Human beings affected by the essence of darkness, making their bodies change in many different ways"

"...Wait, they weren't made by eating demon meat?"

"WHAT? No, of course not, that sounds stupid, and not only that but disgusting...Also, the meat of a demon is filled with the essence of darkness, so it can easily kill you. Consuming such meat is suicide and you might only succeed in creating defective demonic humans. Although it has yet to be tested I guess...A weird imagination you have there, don't you?"

"I see."
