Chapter 17: He can't see through them!
No one has ever called her High Madame.
The lady momentarily blanked and just hovered her eyes on Vis while the prince looked after her.
This brief pause allowed Vis and High Yoru to meet for the first time.
And both of them immediately sensed each other's true identities.
While the high elder didn't show any emotion on his face, Vis did the same but he could feel his cold sweat running down his spine.
Unfortunately, Vis found out that High Elders were people that pretty much ignored his experience.
He couldn't see through such people!
"High Madame is not what I had expected… But it has a pleasant ring to it," High Madame whose actual name was High Nami spoke while seeing Vis' nervous appearance.
She had a slight suspicion that High Yoru's 'stupid eyes' had intimidated Vis, so she reassured him immediately after, "Our visit is not formal and we are here… with different goals… I would like to speak with your beloved first. Can I?"
Because High Nami didn't even look older, at least compared to the former Vis' body, Vis couldn't wholly accept her goodwill.
He then got reminded about High Elders' age and experience, then cleared his throat, "Cough… I am sorry for spacing out. It's my first day here and I am just slightly overwhelmed by everything."
"It's fine. I understand," High Nami smiled sweetly.
Vis smiled back and answered her question, "Of course my beloved would be glad to speak with High Madame and High Yoru, but it's been a long road and she is currently sleeping. Please, let me check on her first."
Vis bowed, then closed the door without even letting those High Elders speak.
Standing in front of the closed doors, High Madame quietly whispered, "Aren't you going to invite us in?"
Her colleague, High Yoru, snickered and said, "You are too lenient on people below you. Just now, such weakling closed its doors before you. Hah." He sounded arrogant and such a voice alone was like thousand needles to High Nami.
She glared at him with irritation all over her face, "He's just nervous."
"I won't allow such weakling to make me wait," High Yoru suddenly turned around. His initial goals greatly shifted after seeing Vis, but High Nami couldn't see through him at all nor she could even know a little about those goals.
Him suddenly leaving was something she noted with suspicion, though.
-
Immediately after closing the doors, Vis slid down on these and sat on the ground, "I have felt that killing intent from Blue Icewing already… This is the world where people can kill with eyes alone… I get it…"
Vis breathed heavily and did his utmost best to calm himself.
He didn't have time, though.
If he allowed those people to wait for too long, then they would just enter the house and do their thing.
But what were they here for? Vis couldn't think of it as a person not from this tribe!
Instead, he rushed to Miku's room and spoke hurriedly, "Paper! I need pen and paper," He sounded far from the usual master, so Miku stood up and immediately fished out those.
She then looked at her master writing something on the paper…
"Master, are we going to fight?" Miku asked quietly.
"No, I hope we will overcome it without any battle," Vis answered, then crumpled the paper and put it in his pocket.
He then glanced at Miku, "Don't think of dullahan class or abilities. Just lay on the bed and wait for things to progress," Vis left those words, then returned to high elders.
Keeping those people outside surely hurt their pride and Vis knew how people from this world valued it.
He awkwardly opened the doors and spotted that High Yoru had been missing!
"Uhh… Please, come in! Miku woke up and she will answer everything High Madame needs her for," Vis welcomed High Nami with open arms.
The lady's confusion faded away and she didn't seem to have any displeasure within her heart, "Thank you for having me." Her voice at least sounded genuine and merry.
As soon as both of them appeared in the main room, Miku glanced at High Nami and parted her lips, "Hello." She tried to sound respectful, but no one minded her casual greeting.
High Nami then looked over Miku with wide eyes and took the seat not too far away from the bed and spoke, "The outside world is dangerous and your mission was to learn about the world."
"..." Miku didn't answer as she already forgot about it! This part had been meaningless and easily forgotten while her soul got collected!
She just waited for High Madame to continue.
"You shouldn't have gone too far, but I am glad you have returned," High Nami was gentle and sounded like a mother.
Miku just raised her eyes and thanked her, "I am fine."
The two women began to speak like a family then. The older one spoke about Miku's mission outside and the dullahan just answered what she had seen here.
A calamity… People struggling to make a living and more dangerous threats that any normal person would find hard to overcome.
Miku didn't seem to share about High Yoru and never mentioned him!
Did it raise High Madame's suspicion?
Vis hoped for her to be like the mother she had been so far and soon the lady just stood up. She glanced at two of them and spoke, "I wish you a happy married life. If High Yoru turns out to be too much, then you can always find me through others."
"Thank you. Please, let me show you out," Vis thanked the lady, then both of them walked to the main doors.
Just before High Nami turned around to leave, Vis reached out for her hands. He tightly held these as if mesmerized by her beauty, "It's been my honor to meet such a fine lady." He then let her hands go, but High Nami's expression was rather too naive.
She could tell that Vis stuffed her palm with something, but didn't show any signs, "I am glad that the beloved of our clansman turned out to be such a well-mannered young man. Goodbye."
Vis just awkwardly smiled as him touching the lady's hands like that wasn't so well-mannered.
High Nami just hid her hands in her robe's pockets and disappeared as if using teleportation skill.
At the same time, Vis just heavily turned around and closed the doors.
He quickly reached out for the chair and supported himself on the table. One of his hands played with the pen by tapping the table, "High Yoru wanted to check on you… and your mission. The other one was suspicious of him and so came together with him," Vis' initial analysis rang out in the room.
"He left after confirming that I am similar to him. I don't have much time, do I?"
"Master, did you pass the paper?" Miku asked.
On this paper, Vis had left a simple message.
[I can find necromancers in your tribe.]
Since Vis looked too nervous and confused, Miku allowed herself to ask the question.
Her master just nodded to this and bet his life on this small paper!
"She seemed naive…" Despite not being able to see through High Nami, Vis could tell this much.
When she had been looking at Miku and speaking with her, Vis' eyes carefully would look at her movements. But what he found out was that High Nami's eyes just kept looking straight into Miku's jewels.
What could he read from such a move? His experience told Vis nothing!
He just couldn't tell anything, but High Nami had been naive nonetheless, "She should've just asked you about your mission. Instead, she told us what was your mission content… No, what if… it was false? What if she actually spoke about some randomly made mission?"
"Master… You are thinking too much," Miku's analysis was just this, "Master has passed the paper with a message already, so aren't these questions pointless?"
"Yeah… I got worked up needlessly… My bad..." Vis looked over the window, "I got you as my undead, but my goal was never to become an enemy with the Lula Tribe. I plan to take care of necromancers and use them for my benefit, so I can only hope this woman will understand this much…"
He inwardly asked himself, 'What was Miku's mission? Does her body… hold something I don't know?' Vis glanced at Miku and his eyes were soon answered by her.
Both of them looked into each other as if real lovers, but Vis just sighed, "Tell me your abilities."
He already knew those, but maybe there was a key somewhere? Vis would try everything just to increase his rate of survival!
