The first test that the Students had to go through, was the test of endurance. The field was set up with close to nothing for this test, seeing this, Sam was curious to what or how they would be tested.
"The human body is different for every individual. Their limit, their strength, their speed, all of those aspects will be tested right here today, and you will be evaluated on your performance with how well you do. So for the Endurance test, we will go back to the very basics to see where that limit of yours lays."
"The test will compromise of push-ups, sit-ups, chin-ups, and a ten-mile run. Nonetheless, you will be timed on how fast you can finish these exercises with the specific target of 50 each, except for the ten-mile run. Also, all of you will be partnered with a veteran to be your judge for there to be no bias. You may start!"
After the Sergeants speech, everyone had split up finding themselves partnered up with a veteran just in a few minutes. As for Sam, he was waiting in place until someone had come and approached him.
"You must be the newbie I'm judging today, the name's Palo."
"Sam."
"Nice to meet you! Well then, I hope you won't be another disappointment, after all the praise the Sergeant and Vice Commander have given you."
From just these few words alone, he began to feel the pressure of this old man. Did he make sure mentally, that he would do the most to impress and bring this coot out of his grave in fear.
"Good... Let us see how well you can do Freshie! Now get on the ground and position yourself, till i say start."
Positioning himself on the ground, Sam had put his body into a push-up stance, waiting for the order to start. 'Form and Speed, focus!'
"Start!"
Hearing the go signal, he started doing push-ups at a slow pace to save energy for the later exercises, but looking to his right and left, he could see several students going at least twice the speed he was performing. Not wanting to be the dung amongst his unit, Sam had begun realizing that saving energy was useless in this test he started smiling and sped up faster, being able to perform 4 push-ups/sec.
'Watching Sam perform, I can't help but think if the rookies nowadays are just some monsters...' making sure to compare him to the other students until realizing that it was only him giving off such monstrous test.
"Stop! You're done, move on to the sit-ups!"
As if he knew what he was doing, Sam had transitioned in swift motion and once again started doing his sit-ups in an amazing speed.
'This kid-'
Without noticing, while Sam had been putting all his effort into the test. Veterans and several other students, couldn't help but stare at him in shock as they started to try and speed up too.
"Goo- Good, now continue onto the chin-ups!"
Yet again, in a swift motion Sam had moved his body to a pole, as he started the chin-ups. Only few being able to catch up to his speed, he had remained in the lead.
Don't underestimate the other students just because of this, the ones who are catching up to Sam, are the most able bodied and well fitted students. It's not that they aren't fast or able enough, it's just that Sam is showing an abnormal efficiency in the test.
A few meters away from the students taking the test, the average soldier began to have his eyes lit in excitement as if he had found the perfect specimen.
'I knew it, you do have the essence inside of you...'
Looking at his brother-in-name stare feverishly at Sam, he couldn't help sigh wondering what was going in that old mans head.
Back to Sam, he had just finished his chin-ups in 23 seconds. Moving on to the last part of the test, he decided to take it easier so he could finish the ten-mile run with ease.
Behind him, several other students who had made an effort to catch up, had just begun to start their ten-mile run as they saw Sam in the distance a mile ahead of themselves.
'Who the hell is that bastard?!' Was the only thing the others could curse out as they made their way through the course, staring at the figure.
In just under an hour, Sam had finished his test with a full time of 58 minutes and 49 seconds beating the others by at most 2 minutes. Which is considered a fast time, considering the fact he had taken it easy on the last course.
Without noticing, a green glow in his eyes had started dissipating in thin air.
Taking a breather, he had sat down as he began watching the other students finish their test. In the moment, he begun to see Walter amongst the ones in the lead.
'He should be pretty good to be there in the front.'
'...'
'Well not as good as me!' Laughing within his mind, as Walter had just finished his test.
Seeing Sam in the distance who had been watching him carefully, he had started to approach him with shock, as he had quickly hid his emotion as if it never occurred.
"Do you know what you just did?"
"I... did the test?"
"Of course you did the test Idiot! I'm talking about your unusual speed, how were you able to do that?"
"I really don't know what to say except that maybe, just maybe... I'm a prodigy!"
Everyone who were secretly listening in to their conversation to try and understand his freakish endurance, had their brains freeze for a few seconds.
As if they were siblings, they all cursed at him. "Like hell you are!"
"Okay, okay... Don't need to be so upset with me."
Playing the victim, Sam sat their in shock.
"Look, all I could feel was that I could go faster, so I did. I don't know how else to explain it. I'm sorry."
Walter and the rest stared at him for a few seconds, until they gave up.
Knowing they wouldn't be able to get anymore information out of him, everyone had stopped bothering with Sam, leaving him alone with Walter.
"You really are an interesting person."
"Walter, if you're going to keep saying this everyday. I might as well think you're gay, and I'll have to use force to get away from you."
Tsk
Unhappy, Walter left to gather his thoughts and continue finishing his own tasks.
——
Just as all the students had finished their test, Sergeant Zhu had approached every student one by one assessing their performance..
"Pass"
"Pass"
"Fail"
"Pass"
Seeing that most of the students were getting a good performance, he couldn't help but nod. But as the moment he had reached Sam, he turned silent.
Turning his head to see his brother-in-name smiling with wide eyes, he sighed once more.
"Pass"
...
Now that everyone has gotten their performances graded, they were now on the path to move to the next test.
The Tactics Test!
