Throne: Path to Supreme Power

'Throne' is a MMORPG in which players play characters with races, professions and equipment just like any others. Players can also build organizations, control cities, and even ascend the throne to become a king. The king has many powers, such as issuing quests, collecting taxes, and even making laws. Therefore, the throne is crucial and becomes the key for each big organization to fight for. William was once an ordinary player who missed the best opportunity, but he now has a chance to start over. Can he compete with those oligarchs with his own power?

Is this change for the better? Or was it bad? He wasn't sure.

But it was comforting to know that he had at least brought about some change.

Before he was reborn, there had been some misunderstandings with Mona over Mr. Bertram: Mona had married Mr. Bertram, a somewhat older widower, right after college, and William had held a grudge for a long time. The misunderstanding was resolved, but he and his sister's family were gradually cut off.

Luckily, Mr. Bertram was very good-tempered and wealthy, and the two of them were hardly ever at odds. Mona also took good care of him and her stepson, Evan Bertram.

Otherwise, when the local judge found out that 28 year old Mona had a 16 year old 'son', Evan, the old Bertram would have become a felon.

Without waiting for him to continue his reminiscences, Mona rattled off her experiences in the game. William listened patiently for a while and was slightly surprised.

It turned out that Mona, because she wasn't good at fighting and hadn't found any suitable teammates, for seven days in a row, she had just been wandering around the novice village, accomplishing some very tiny tasks, the hardest of which was just helping a villager repair a fence.

But compared to these insignificant tasks, Mona's luck was very good, she waited until the wandering merchant arrived, and with a mindset similar to helping other villagers she hooked up with the wandering merchant, and managed to open up the predecessor task of the special profession 'Wanderer', selling some useless props to the villagers.

With the goodwill and reputation value accumulated earlier, Mona barely managed to sell all that junk.

However, Mona's good fortune was clearly not unlimited, and after successfully completing the first not-so-difficult challenge, the second task left to her by the Wandering Merchant, to recover three valuable props from the village and realize a high enough profit, left her at a loss as to what to do for the best.

After hearing Mona's complaints about the wandering merchant, William thought about it and gave her some advice.

Some of the idlers on the forums before he was reborn had already studied these quests very thoroughly by repeatedly creating accounts to complete them, and there were references to content related to, for example, what types of antiques villagers generally had in their homes, how much commodities such as herbs or animals cost in different regions, and so on.

It was even discovered that if props such as the 'Mage Apprentice's Notes' that were originally used to open the Mage Route were used to submit them to the wandering merchants, it would be possible to accomplish this quest as well.

Mona was obviously a little surprised at William's paragraph about 'unique secrets'.

She wasn't surprised that William was able to find so many solutions, because in her opinion, this brother had been very good at playing games since he was a child, so of course he would know these things. She was surprised that William had actually become so talkative, in her impression, William was a somewhat reticent person, always engrossed in the virtual world.

William took her surprise in his eyes and didn't explain much. Thanks to the faster rate of time passing, he had experienced close to ten years in the world of 'Throne'. It was a decade of struggling with NPCs, with players, and with guilds that monopolized resources. Turning him from an introverted child into a warrior adept at struggle, a struggle that was not only in terms of combat, but also in terms of communication and scheming.

William flashed a smile at Mona and explained, "I've been thinking a lot these days and have resolved to make some changes."

Mona was slightly stunned and revealed a surprised expression as she said, "That's great William, I've always hoped that you could be a little more cheerful, that would make you a perfect brother."

William bristled dismissively at her words and said, "I've always been a cheerful person, it's just that you don't understand my deep thinking."

The two joked and laughed for a while before Mona, seeing that he was in a good mood, made another well-timed suggestion, "Uh, hey, William, how are you doing with your job considerations?"

William knew what she wanted to say and shook his head, saying, "Thank Mr. Bertram for me for his kind words, but I've already found a way to make money in 'Throne' now, and I'll make some money from it in a couple of months after the market for the game's coins is established, so I won't be looking for a job for a while, my have enough savings from before to last until then."

Mona knew that William had made money in some other games before, so she didn't object, but only reminded, "If it doesn't work, don't try to be too bravado."

William subconsciously stroked Mona's head, he almost thought of her as a little girl, "I know."

Annoyed, Mona plucked his hand away and the two laughed again.

After another brief examination by the doctor to make sure William was ready to be discharged, Mona pushed him in a motorized wheelchair next to the car she had driven, a large pickup truck that must have been an automobile in the name of Mr. Bertram's company.

No doubt there was plenty of room in the back of it to put down the motorized wheelchair, requiring only a simple fastening with straps, rather than having to disassemble or fold it up.

Once in the car, Mona joked, "I've even thought about strapping you in the back with the wheelchair if you can't sit in the car."

William joked back, "Then I'll be sure to call every cop in the state to rescue me."

Driving down the highway, William took stock of his profits for the second half of the year and then suggested, "Hey, what would be a good Christmas present for me to get Mr. Bertram by the end of the year? Does he have any special favorites?"

"Oh William, you've really changed, I'm surprised you remembered to give old Bertram a Christmas present, I remember you almost fought with him last Year's. And you actually didn't remember that your dear sister needed a Christmas present too?"

William was a little embarrassed to hear the first half of the sentence, thinking that he could have bought something expensive to make it up to him, but when he heard the second half he could only express his affection for Mona by rolling his eyes.

"Let me see, he likes to go golfing or drink whiskey, but he doesn't smoke, oh and he's a little too fat this year, maybe you should give him a year's gym membership so he can go on a good diet. He was only a hundred and fifty pounds when I met him, now he's at least forty or fifty pounds heavier."

William nodded, almost thinking about what kind of gift he could prepare.

Then with Mona's music deliberately turned up, the two soon arrived at the apartment William had rented. The janitor, Hurley Ewenny, was a kindly middle-aged older woman who couldn't help but come over to greet William when she saw him return in his wheelchair after a long time.

"Oh, unfortunate little Smith, has your leg injury not healed yet?"

"Mrs. Ewenny, my leg is fractured, it is estimated that it will take another month for it to heal."

After the two exchanged a few pleasantries, Mona and Hurley also greeted each other before pushing William into the elevator.

"William, your room looks like it's been air raided, when was the last time you organized your room?"

"Let me see, I was still wearing a sweater then and it's August."

"William!"
