Chapter 1

Earth, Year XX52

Eva, a librarian, was reading a book about how their is life after death. She was really interested in supernatural stuff.

Eva had free time to read the book because there was no one in the library. Not even a soul was seen in the library because nowadays everything could be searched in the internet not requiring any books. But Eva was different because she detested electronic books and instead liked to read books which is physical. She liked the touch of paper while reading a book.

Eva was suddenly feeling really sleepy for some reason. This never happened to her before when reading a book. Then slowly but surely, she closed her eyes.

This was the last time Eva existed on Earth.

Unkla, January 28, Year XX16

Eva opened her eyes because she felt that someone was forcefully tugging her so that she wakes up. She saw an Asian girl, probably of Chinese decent, still tugging her even though she opened her eyes.

When the Chinese girl noticed that she finally opened her eyes, she was relieved. But she got nervous again because of the situation. She said to Eva who was still in daze.

"Hey you are finally awake. Did you hear the school announcement?"

Before Eva could process anything in the surrounding, she wanted to say that her name is not An. But she was cut off before she could even speak.

"They said that the 'monsters' are attacking. The East side of the town is almost overrun by those monsters. I don't know whether we could reach the port so that we can escape. Shit! how did those monster even enter the town. The towns are all heavily guarded. "

Before the girl could explain more to Eva, they heard the teacher shouting from outside the classroom.

"Hey you two girls! All your classmates has left, can't you see that. If you have so much time to talk then escape first, then you will get all the time in the world to talk."

The girl who was talking to Eva noticed that that were the only once left inside the classroom. She got scared again. Then she took the hand of Eva without her permission and walked out of the classroom together.

Eva was in daze all this time. She didn't know what was going on and what kind of situations she was in. When she felt the pulling off her hand by the girl in front, she came back to her senses. Eva wanted the girl to let go but she was not able to release her hand from her grasp. After trying for a few more times, she resigned to her situation.

Eva then noticed her surroundings. She was coming out of a building which was purely made of wood. It looked ancient to her because she was used to seeing building made of cement and other good materials which was better than wood. The road was also bad but not as bad as the surrounding buildings which included the school building. It felt like it was made of stone.

Eva saw that many people including her were walking towards a particular direction. Eva wanted to ask so many question to anyone including the girl who was grasping her hand tightly. But eventually Eva didn't ask anything because she could she that everyone was nervous. She could feel that if they are given a chance to run, they will run with all their might.

Eva saw many guards or soldiers directing the people but they were also nervous like those people surrounding her. Eva wondered what could these 'monsters' be that could scare anyone just by mentioning them.

After walking for about twenty minutes, Eva could see the port that the girl talked about. Eva then sighed in relief as they were about to reach their destination. Eva noticed dozen of huge boat at the port were they were loading people. The boats were located at both sides. Then Eva finally realized that the so called town was divided by a river. She could also see the walls surrounding the town which see didn't notice.

Eva thought to herself that "Exactly where am I?"

After exactly two minutes, Eva could hear people shouting from behind hysterically.

"The 'monsters' are here. Run... "

After the people in Eva surrounding heard, they started running towards the boats without any order. Eva was also pulled along by the girl and thus she also started running. But after a few seconds, Eva felt that the hand grasping her left and therefore she slowed down. That was Eva mistake and soon she tripped and fell down. Eva tried to get up but she failed because she was being trampled on by multiple people.

When there were finally less people, Eva was able to get up. But it was too late as the monsters were near her. When Eva looked behind, she was finally able to see the called monsters. But she was horrified beyond belief when she looked at those horrendous thing and her legs went jelly as she was not able to move.

Those monsters were coming close to her as the seconds went by… 50m… 40m… 30m… 20m… Eva was frantically telling her legs to move but they were not listening to her… 10m… 5m… When a monster came close to her, she knew she was done for and no one could save her.

She then looked at the monster in front of her. The monster had only the whites of the eye and all the veins in the body were bulged as if it could burst out at any moment. The most horrifying thing was that there was blood dripping from the mouth which probably came from a human.

When the monster saw Eva, it jumped at Eva without a second and took a bite of her flesh. But for some reason it was not satisfied and thus left to find other targets in the surrounding.

As for Eva, she was lying on the ground not able to move a single muscle. Only one thought was there on Eva's mind at that moment.

"Am I going to die?"
