Role, Expectations, and One Request
The voice paused for a moment after the boy had made his decision and then continued, "The choice you have made will take you on a path that will be difficult and dangerous, understand you will face horror's you can not fathom. While I will provide you many benefits I cannot guarantee you won't be subject to pain and suffering many times worse than what you experienced in your previous life. As a Knight of Light, you will protect the Land of Dreams and Legends from nightmares, demons, rogue gods, and other creatures that desire to consume and destroy it. Understand the battle being waged between the darkness and the light is ancient and neverending. Every joyful dream brings a new more terrifying nightmare, and with every legend born to save the world, a new demon is spawned that desires to destroy it".
The boy listened to the voice and once it seemed it had finished gave his response, "I want to experience what it feels like to have my own strength, pick my own path, and make the decisions within my life. What you offer me is the opportunity to receive all that, and as you said 'and more'. While I understand the risks, I intend to embrace the role and responsibilities given to me". The boy felt a sense of pride wash over himself after giving his response, he felt that no matter what happened Option 2 provided him the greatest opportunity to experience a new life in a new world something he did not want to pass up.
The boy finished his statement with a polite "Thank you" allowing silence to pervade the next couple of minutes. With the decision processed having concluded it was time for the voice to inform the boy of everything his decision entailed. The voice spoke, "I would like to congratulate you on your own decision it is the first step in building your own power. I will begin by explaining the new world you will be entering.
The voice continued, "In the land of dreams and legends anything and everything can exist, this includes magic among a multitude of other elements. There is no limit to the wonders you will see and experience, from fairies, dragons, and mushroom forests to underwater cities, robots, and flying vehicles. As one of my Knights of Light, you will see unfathomable atrocities, fight against nightmares and demons that will terrify you. I will provide you with the tools needed to help you vanquish and destroy these horrors, how you use them will be up to you. The first thing you will be provided is a new body, I kept your look as similar to your previous body. Two changes have been made to facilitate you becoming a Knight of Light, you will now have bright white hair and silver eyes that will shine even when shrouded in darkness. These features let all creatures know you are a Knight of Light, someone meant to protect and save them from the horrors. You will also have an affinity for every type of magic imaginable, your only limitation will be your own comprehension of them. Any questions for so far?"
The boy thought for a moment to himself, to say he was a little overwhelmed would be an understatement. He didn't have a problem with the hair or eyes, he actually thought it might make him look cool. An affinity of every type of magic imaginable who wouldn't want that, what he stuck on was the comprehension part. So the boy softly asked, "Could you elaborate upon the 'limitation will be your own comprehension' part before you continue?".
The voice responded kindly by stating "Yes I can, while you are maybe able to use every type of magic imaginable it doesn't mean you will know how to. For example, you will have an affinity for fire magic, but that doesn't mean you will be able to use it unless you understand some aspect of it. But don't worry as you will be able to learn new magics everywhere you go, and I also have a system in place to help you on your journey that will allow you to earn and purchase information on different magics you may be interested in. The system can also act as a guide of sorts through the Land of Dreams and Legends, while also providing any other items you may need or want to purchase".
After listening to the voice speak the boy started getting excited about the way everything was being described it all kinda sounded like some RPG video game, but he was the main character. Before the boy could think further on it though the voice replied to his thoughts in a serious tone, "This all may sound like a game, but that it is only set up that way to help you acclimate to the Land of Dreams and Legends. Everyone, everything in this world will be as real as it was on Earth. Now please stay focused as I have four more things to discuss with you before you leave this place.
First: When you awake in the Land of Dream and Legends you will need to make your way to the Knights of Light Church in the town of Sol. There you will be given a set of weapons that will help you on your journey. The weapons you will receive have been specifically created for you, the Knight there will explain more once you see them. The location has already been given to your partner and is input into the system, so no need to worry about getting lost.
Second: You will receive a partner that will help you operate the system, think of it as a second voice in your head. Your partner will provide assistance on using the system, and if necessary help you make decisions and choices that best fit your needs and wants.
Third: I will be giving you a new name and that name is [....pause.....] Cipher Starlight. This name holds great meaning within it. The word Cipher stands for zero, which is a powerful number that has an unlimited amount of potential. Your last name represents the stars in the night sky, as even in the darkest of nights they still shine bright for all to see.
Fourth: You may make one request of me, I would advise you to think hard on this before making a decision.
Cipher didn't know what to say, he had been given a chance at a new life, with a new name, and tools meant to help him in this life. It seemed like everything was already explained and that anything he could want he could earn on his own. As Cipher contemplated what to ask for something that the voice had told him before flashed through his head, 'You were killed in your sleep by the ones that gave birth to you'. This gave Cipher the thing he wanted to ask for, "I know what I would like to ask for, I would like it if it was extremely hard to kill me. I don't want for someone to be able to kill me in my sleep or take my life at any given moment".
The voice went silent for a while before speaking, "Cipher I understand what you are asking and I can provide a form of immortality, but there now guarantees and it will also mean you will live much longer than most in the world are you prepared for that?". Cipher could not say for sure he was absolutely prepared, but he knew that in this new world he wanted to be able to live longer then fifteen years. Before Cipher could answer the voice responded, "I understand your thoughts and I will grant your request, your body will be made immortal but will get older until you hit your optimal age. Know that you will be expected to battle the horrors of this world, do not think because it is hard to kill you that it is impossible to. Also know there are some things worse than death. Now our time is running short any other questions you have can be directed towards your partner when you meet them, good luck and I wish you the best.
