Chapter 2

The first years are nervous about the classes that start in two days. Luckily they have today to prepare for classes starting tomorrow. Raven woke up early and spent most of the morning reading her textbooks. Wanting to have a headstart on her studies even though she doesn't need them. She has read them all multiple times over the past few months wanting to make her parents proud by being at the top of her class. Raven is prepared for anything the teachers could throw her way.

As Raven walks down the stairs to meet up with Alicia to leave for breakfast, she sees her talking to two boys. Alicia waves the shorter girl over to introduce her.

Once she reaches her she puts her arm around her shoulders and says, "These are my best friends, Scott Bloyd and Isaac Parry. I've known them my whole life."

Raven shakes both of their hands and says, "Nice to meet you. I'm Raven."

In her observations, Scott is a couple of inches taller than her. At this point, everyone else seems taller than her. Raven is short for her age, and she expects she will not grow past five foot four. Scott has chocolate brown eyes, tan skin, and shaggy black hair. Isaac is pale with dark brown hair and ice-blue eyes.

"Nice to meet you too. We've heard so much about you" Scott says.

Isaac asks, "So how are you liking the school?"

"It's not so bad so far," The grey eyed girl says awkwardly not being used to interacting with more than one person at a time.

"Why don't we head down to breakfast? I'm starved" Alicia chimes in noticing Raven's discomfort.

They all agree and head to the dining hall. All of them do their best to include Raven in the conversation but let her observe mostly since they all can see her uneasiness. Raven is doing her best not to be bothered by her thoughts but she can't control the ones that come to the forefront of her mind. The things her parents would say about friends and allies always make her believe everyone is her enemy. Her childhood was a lonely one and she wants friends and it is harder than she originally thought. It would take a long while for her to get comfortable around them.

"Wait— you're telling me that a person can control all of the elements?! Why am I hearing about this now!" Raven exclaimed.

"It's nothing special. Just a legend and—"

Scott interrupted Isaac— "You should have heard of it. In the legend, a certain family is supposedly descended from the greatest wizard of all time! Merlin himself!"

Raven gasped and she was shell-shocked at how her family could keep this from her. An important legend that could be life altering. A prophecy that can change the course of the world as she knows it.

"I need to know how the story goes!"

"Alright alright."

Scott gave a sly smile as the anticipation grew on Raven's face, then he began.

"The legend goes that an all-powerful wizard came to Camelot to save King Arthur and his people from an unforgivable curse. The wizard came to the kingdom and examined the curse. He knew right away it was his archnemesis Nimueh. She was very powerful, but she only used dark magic, and her powers were not pure and true like Merlin's. A few days later, Nimueh came to the castle to claim Arthur's throne. He refused of course. Nimueh became infuriated and tried to kill him until Merlin used his powers to defend the King. His hood was off of his face for the first time revealing his purple eyes. He used all four elements to defeat her. He eventually killed her. Arthur became indebted to him. Thus, leading to the creation of Ilver-Lilywood."

"You mean Merlin created this school? I mean—"

"Raven, don't interrupt me, please. You can ask questions once I'm done."

Sheepishly Ravens says, "Sorry, continue."

"Thank you. Merlin explained that one person will be the chosen one and they will be all-powerful and mighty. They would be able to control all four elements and have more than four abilities. Especially since when they have full control of their powers their eyes will change to purple permanently because they have a good and pure heart. All of their actions would have led them up to the moment for that person to be the rightful ruler and to bring the Kingdom to peace. Camelot is now Silvestra, and it has been a thousand years since. As you can tell from the history of the royals, there has been nonstop inequality and biased actions to get certain people to rule."

"Oh. My. Gods. How come I've never heard any of this?" Isaac, Scott, and Alicia laughed at her for being clueless about the most famous legend there is. They would not let this go for a while at how clueless she is about a lot of things.

It seems as though Raven's parents never mentioned the legend of Merlin or the prophecy. It seems as though they left that part entirely out when they had her learn the history of Silvestra. She knew the story of Arthur and Merlin but never the whole story of Merlin's powers, his eyes, and the prophecy he foretold.
