Chapter 10
After a long day's work in the workshop, Han Xiao finally removed the handcuffs from Jake, releasing him from his temporary confinement with a chuckle. "Well, that's enough excitement for one day," he remarked with a grin, shaking his head in amusement at Jake's antics. "Let's get out of here and grab some dinner."
Jake eagerly agreed, relieved to be free from the confines of the workshop. Together, they left the headquarters and made their way back to their respective apartments, ready to unwind after a busy day.
The next day, Jake decided to pay Han Xiao a visit at his apartment. As he arrived at the door, he was greeted by the sight of a stunning young woman, He guessed that she was Lu Qain the grand daughter of Old man Lu. With his typical charm and bravado, Jake flashed her a roguish grin. "Well, hello there, gorgeous," he greeted, leaning casually against the doorframe. "I'm Jake, Han Xiao's partner in crime. And you are?"
The woman, who introduced herself as Lu Qian, regarded Jake with a mixture of curiosity and amusement. "Nice to meet you, Jake," she replied with a smile, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'm Lu Qian. Han Xiao has told me so much about you."
Jake's grin widened at the mention of Han Xiao's praise. "Oh, has he now? Well, I hope it was all good things," he joked, flashing her a playful wink.
Their banter was interrupted by the sudden appearance of an elderly man, who Jake assumed to be Lu Qian's grandfather. The old man eyed Jake warily, his grip tight around the stick he held in his hand. "Who is this young man, Lu Qian?" he demanded gruffly, his voice filled with suspicion.
Before Lu Qian could respond, Jake interjected with his trademark irreverence. "Relax, old man," he quipped, raising his hands in a mock surrender. "I come in peace, I swear. Just here to visit my buddy Han Xiao."
But the old man was not appeased, and with a stern glare, he moved to chase Jake away with his stick. Before he could act, however, Lu Qian stepped in, placing a hand on his arm to stop him. "Grandfather, please," she pleaded, casting a reproachful glance in Jake's direction. "Let's hear what Jake has to say before we jump to conclusions."
Just then, Han Xiao emerged from his room, a bemused expression on his face as he took in the scene unfolding before him. "What's going on here?" he asked, his tone laced with curiosity.
Jake flashed him a sheepish grin, shrugging casually. "Just your typical welcome party, I guess," he replied with a chuckle. "You never told me your roommate had such a protective grandfather."
"She is not his roommate and this workshop is mine. She is my grand daughter. Han Xiao is just a leach sucking off our hard work." Old man Lu said out loud.
"Looks like the old guy isn't a fan" Jake whispered in Han Xiao's ears.
Suddenly Han Xiao and Jake received the urgent notification, Han Xiao's demeanor remained composed, his mind already strategizing the best course of action. Jake, on the other hand, couldn't help but crack a joke, his wits shining through even in the face of danger.
"Looks like someone's in a hurry to ruin our day," Jake quipped as they boarded the vehicle sent by headquarters, his tone laced with sarcasm.
Han Xiao simply nodded, his focus unwavering as he contemplated the gravity of the situation. Upon entering the meeting room of the covert-ops department, they found Li Ya Lin, Lambert, and Li Yao already assembled, their expressions tense with anticipation.
Feng Jun, taking charge of the briefing, wasted no time in delivering the dire news. "Ma Qing Yang's team has been ambushed during their mission to assault a Germinal base. Our assistance is needed immediately."
Han Xiao nodded, absorbing the information with a stoic resolve. "Understood. Let's proceed with the extraction plan."
Jake, unable to resist the urge to inject humor into the situation, leaned back in his chair with a grin. "Well, well, looks like we're off on another suicide mission. Anyone else feeling lucky today?"
Lambert shot Jake a disapproving glare, but Jake merely shrugged it off, accustomed to pushing the boundaries of professionalism. "What? Too soon?"
Li Ya Lin sighed, shaking her head at Jake's antics. "We need to stay focused, Jake. People's lives are at stake here."
"Yeah, yeah, I know," Jake replied nonchalantly, his irreverent attitude seemingly immune to the gravity of the situation.
Feng Jun, accustomed to Jake's antics, pressed on with the briefing, outlining the details of the extraction plan with precision. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Han Xiao remained calm and collected, his mind already calculating the best course of action.
"As you all know," Feng Jun continued, "our team leader is currently hospitalized due to an accident. Li Ya Lin will be leading the operation in his absence."
Han Xiao nodded in acknowledgment, his confidence in Li Ya Lin's leadership evident. "We trust your judgment, Feng. Let's get this done."
Jake couldn't resist one last quip before the briefing concluded. "Well, if this is a suicide mission, at least we'll go out in style, right?"
Ignoring Jake's comment, Han Xiao rose from his seat, signaling the team to prepare for action. "Enough with the jokes. Let's focus on the task at hand. Lives are depending on us."
With a determined nod from the team, they filed out of the meeting room, ready to face whatever dangers awaited them with courage and resolve. As they geared up and boarded the transport vehicle, the weight of their mission hung heavy in the air, but they faced it with unwavering determination.
As they journeyed towards the Germinal base, Han Xiao maintained his calm demeanor, his mind sharp and focused on the task ahead. Beside him, Jake couldn't resist cracking a few more jokes, his Deadpool-inspired humor providing a momentary reprieve from the tension of the mission.
Despite their contrasting personalities, Han Xiao and Jake formed a formidable team, each bringing their own unique strengths to the table. And as they prepared to confront the enemy and rescue their comrades, they knew that together, they stood a fighting chance against even the most formidable of foes.
I hope everybody enjoyed it.....
