The world is truly lonely, especially when you've been forgotten, A man named David is constantly forgotten due to his ability, He lives a life of loneliness until He meets a man in a forest,
My name is David.
I live in a massive city. The city is compact with small cubic houses and a few large skyscrapers.
This city only has a few sparse forests. If you can call them forests they are more like small parks but still, it's the only real vegetation in this place, but the most unique thing about the city is the massive wall that surrounds it.
The wall is around 1500 feet tall, and it dwarfs all other buildings in this city casting a massive shadow when the sun starts to set
No one knows what lies on the other side of the wall except maybe a few governing officials, but everyone I talk to doesn't know.
But for right now, I need to focus on heading to school again.
I rise out of my bed. My room is small, with only a single bed. There are two doors in my room. One of them leads outside and the other one leads into a bathroom with a toilet and a shower. I live on the first floor of an apartment complex, which makes leaving pretty easy, but the chances of me getting robbed are a lot higher anyway.
It only takes me a few minutes to dress up for school, but eventually, I walk out of the door and walk down a flight of stairs before I reach a sidewalk. I quickly turn right and start heading towards the school.
This world is different from the average one. Everyone is born with a unique ability or power, and we awaken this said power on our sixth birthday, which is always a huge celebration for every household except mine, but I'll get back to that.
Based on how useful this government deems your ability, they would send you off to a certain school, there are only four schools in this massive city, and each school is ranked off the power, If you are sent to the first school you're the strongest, and if you're sent to the fourth school your the weakest,
Of course, I was sent to fourth school not because my power was weak but because no one remembered who I was. My ability makes everyone forget who I am.
I take a few more steps until I arrive at the school entrance. Hundreds of students stare at me confused. This will be the first time they will have seen me, even though I have attended this school for years.
I walk through a massive green gate, and a large cubic gray building comes into my vision. The building is covered in windows made out of blue panes, and two water fountains are at the entrance of the school separated by a path of stone tile.
A black backpack hangs from my shoulders as I walk down the stone tile in a black suit and a white undershirt. As a 6 foot-2 student, I can still see over the shoulders of most students,
This city forces us to go to school until we turn 18, so I still have two more years until I graduate. I walk up a set of stairs before I reach the roof of the school. The roof is flat with a blueish fence lining the edges of the building.
I usually stay on this rooftop, because there is no point in going to class because I will always be forgotten, and if I get in trouble for skipping class, they'll forget about that too.
I walk toward a corner before I lay down on the floor, with my arms behind my head. I lay there until a ringing bell entered my ears. It looks like class has started, so a teacher will probably come up here to check if a student is skipping.
I let out a sigh before I drifted back into my thoughts.
I truly don't have a goal in my life, Everything I achieve will just be forgotten, all the friends in my life have forgotten me, even my parents forgot about me on my sixth birthday, they treated me like a lost kid until they eventually kicked me out of their house and left me to survive on the streets.
Everyone I talk to thinks their ability is the most valuable possession but my ability isn't fire or something cool like that, it's just a curse.
I stare off into the blue sky until the sound of footsteps enters my ears, causing me to rise. I sit on the ground and watch as a tall bald man wearing a suit opens a blue door and walks out onto the roof.
" What do you think you're doing skipping class, young man? You better have a good reason, "
He says to me in a stern voice, This is Mr. Patrick. He is one of the teachers at this school. He doesn't teach a class this semester so he often roams around the school trying to catch skipping students. He caught me so many times on this roof that I learned his name.
" There is no reason, in particular, I just didn't feel like going, so just leave me alone, baldy, "
I watch as a vein appears on his bald forehead, as he glares at me angrily, Mr. Patrick hates disrespect, so I often tease him about his bald head, he is very insincere about it,
" Hurry and get up, we're going to Dean. I'm sure he will love to hear what you just said. "
Said Patrick walking towards me. I just grinned at him as I slowly got up to my feet. He was about to grab my wrist until I suddenly jerked my right arm back and dashed away from him gaining space.
" What are you doing? Are you trying to fight a teacher? "
He said to me, with an astonished look on his face. I just shook my head at him before I spoke.
" No, I just wanted to ask a question. Do you remember who I am? The teachers in this school have been assigned to remember all students' names. And if they fail to remember a student they will be fired.
I said it to him. He looked at me with an even more confused look before he just shrugged his shoulders, and spoke.
" Okay, what's your point? "
A grin appeared on my face as I crossed my arms and spoke.
" If you can tell me my name, I will walk down to the Dean peacefully, but if you can't, I will go and tell the Dean that you have forgotten my name and get you fired."
Patrick's eyes widened. I guess he realized that he didn't know who I was. I have had this same conversation with Patrick at least 30 times, and every single time he has buckled and left me alone. Let's see if this time is different.
I watch as his face morphs before he sighs dropping his shoulders.
" Fine you win, I don't remember who you are, so I'll leave you be for today, but best believe I'm going to find out who you are, "
He says turning around. I watch as he slowly walks down the stairs, and then finally the quietness returns to the rooftop.
" Same old, Same old huh, "
I whispered to myself, as I lay back down on the ground and stared off into the sky for what felt like hours until my eyes grew heavy and I fell into a deep sleep...
