The Eye Of Equality

My breath was ragged as I rushed through the streets.

Skillfully weaving past people, the men who were chasing me couldn't keep up.

"Stop thief!" They shouted angrily.

Ignoring them, I ran into the nearest alleyway and ducked out of sight.

Like a spider, I crawled up the walls before hopping over various rooftops to evade my pursuers.

It took till midnight until I was finally able to escape.

Letting out a sigh of relief, I examined my spoils.

On the ground, I poured out what I gained for today.

There were a few bread loafs and some bags filled with fruits.

Happily inspecting my goods, I realized todays spoils were quite satisfactory.

About to stuff myself with the food, something glinted in the corner of my eye.

Startled, I moved closer to pick up whatever was there.

Upon observing the object, I saw that it was almost completely transparent crystal.

It was shaped in the form of a crescent moon.

Instinctively I knew what it was, this was one of the most basic items almost everyone would have used.

They called it the [Reflection Crystal].

In this world, basically everyone would have at least one ability.

This was due to the crystal as it gave everyone one unique ability.

While some had gained tremendous power with their ability, some could only beg for mercy at the feet's of others.

If you didn't get a good ability, you were as good as dead.

Anyone was eligible to gain a crystal at 15 years old as long as they had enough money.

Since I was only a thief living off stolen items, I never expected I could use one.

Eagerly, I reached out my hand and touched the crystal.

What I did not expect was that the moment I touched it, I passed out.
