Chapter 19

The next morning, before I even opened my eyes, I could feel a presence leaning over me. On the day I have dawn patrol.

“Psst!”

Oh, gods…

“Ellie, wake up!”

I grip my pillow tightly and thrust it towards Jax, effectively smacking them in the face.

“What do you want?” I groan, sitting up and rubbing my face.

“I have something to show you!” They tugged roughly on my arm in an effort to get me out of bed. “Come on, we have to get to the schoolhouse!”

“Alright…just let me get up.” I shake them off easily and slowly stand. “Can’t it wait a few hours, whatever it is that you have to show me?” I ask, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

“Well, I guess,” Jax shuffles from one foot to the other. “How long will you be?”

“I have border patrol, so thanks for waking me up.”

“You’re welcome!” They skip toward the door. “I’ll get you there when you’re done with patrol.”

“Sure,” I mumble.
