Chapter 304: The Secret of Twelve Certificates

After class, Albert deliberately stayed behind, intending to discuss the matter of choosing new courses with Professor McGonagall. Seeing Albert stay, Katrina hesitated for a moment and also decided to stay.

Professor McGonagall wasn't surprised that Albert wanted to take all the courses. Most top-performing students chose to take all the courses and earn twelve certificates in their Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.s).

There was no doubt that Albert had the capability for it, and even an advantage.

Professor McGonagall had heard about Albert's proficiency in Ancient Runes and his natural aptitude for Muggle Studies due to his Muggle upbringing. For Albert, taking all the courses would be far less challenging than for other students.

"Miss MacDougall, are you also planning to take all the courses?" Professor McGonagall looked at Katrina, not so much worried about Albert, but more concerned about her. She knew that Katrina was also a talented witch, and her sister Isabel was even considered a prodigy. However, Professor McGonagall still had some concerns about Katrina.

"Yes, Professor McGonagall, I'm planning to take all the courses as well," Katrina nodded in response.

"I'm planning to take all the courses too," Katrina looked at Albert with a complex expression, then nodded towards Professor McGonagall, affirming, "I believe I can do it, and I will do it."

"Very well."

Professor McGonagall motioned for them to accompany her to her office.

"If you're planning to take all the courses, you'll need to apply for a special Time-Turner from the Ministry of Magic," Professor McGonagall signaled for both of them to sit down. "Mr. Anderson is an exceptional student; I believe the Ministry will grant the request. As for Miss MacDougall, your grades are also excellent, and the likelihood of approval is high."

"A Time-Turner?" Albert narrowed his eyes and murmured softly, "I've heard… there's a spell called the Hour-Reversal Charm that can take someone back a few hours."

Professor McGonagall's mouth slightly opened, suddenly unsure of what to say.

Katrina looked a bit bewildered, but she also guessed what the so-called Time-Turner was.

"But you should know that the Hour-Reversal Charm is a dangerous and unstable spell," Professor McGonagall's gaze turned stern, and she fixed a penetrating stare on Albert.

"Of course, I value my life," Albert shook his head, "I wouldn't joke about this matter, and I certainly wouldn't risk my life."

"You both need to keep this confidential, not tell anyone about it, and never use the Time-Turner for anything other than studying," Professor McGonagall cautioned.

"I promise," Albert said firmly.

"I promise too."

"Alright, since that's the case, I will write to the Ministry of Magic. Before that, let me tell you both about the things to be cautious about when using a Time-Turner," Professor McGonagall began explaining to the two of them the catastrophic consequences of violating the laws of time.

"In fact, I've seen similar situations at Hogwarts before," Albert suddenly said, "Isabel and Percy probably have Time-Turners too!"

Professor McGonagall fell silent once again upon hearing this.

"I've encountered Percy appearing in two places more than once. Frankly, knowing Percy as I do, it's hard to imagine him idly wandering in front of me," Albert bluffed offhandedly, "Later, I looked into it and found the Hour-Reversal Charm. Of course, the unsafe spell, Percy probably wouldn't use it recklessly. So, obviously, there must be other ways to go back in time."

Katrina was completely at a loss for words. She hadn't expected Albert to discern the issue from such a subtle incident.

"If you suddenly found yourself facing your past self, what would you think?" Professor McGonagall suddenly asked.

"Is that person an impostor? Or am I going crazy," Katrina answered.

"If I didn't have a Time-Turner…" Albert responded without hesitation, "I'd definitely suspect that someone had taken Polyjuice Potion to look like me."

"Mr. Anderson," Professor McGonagall frowned in reminder, "Many wizards and witches have mistakenly killed their past or future selves. Using a Time-Turner requires extreme caution."

"They were probably too reckless," Albert scoffed and rolled his eyes, "I believe even if you did encounter a reversed-time version of yourself, there would be plenty of ways to handle it. It's best to put away your wand, greet the other person, and say a passphrase only you know to confirm if they're an impostor."

"Why was this person sorted into Gryffindor then?"

At this moment, Professor McGonagall's mind couldn't help but raise this thought.

"Mr. Anderson, this is not a matter to take lightly. Time travel must be handled with great care, or it could result in very serious consequences," Professor McGonagall said weakly, "When the Ministry of Magic approves the use of a Time-Turner, it comes with stringent guarantees and reviews. I must remind you that the Ministry has established hundreds of laws surrounding the possession of Time-Turners and imposes the strictest legal penalties for their misuse."

"I will be careful, Professor McGonagall," Albert said earnestly, "I promise that I will never use it for anything other than studying."

"I hope you remember your words."

"Of course, I'm not done living yet, and I don't joke about my life." Albert assured. He truly wouldn't joke about his life.

Choosing all the new courses was, in fact, his way of acquiring a Time-Turner. Perhaps he could trigger a similar task that would grant him a Time-Turner, or at least give him access to the Hour-Reversal Charm.

As for danger, wasn't there still Panel Skills?

Furthermore, he could try to create a Time-Turner himself.

The Ministry's laws could be treated as nonsense.

"When did you find out about this?" After leaving Professor McGonagall's office, Katrina asked Albert with a complex expression.

"Everyone has their own secrets, don't they?" Albert blinked and said, "Pressing someone about their secrets is quite impolite, and I believe they wouldn't want me to ask. After all, they've promised the same to Professor McGonagall."

"Are you saying I'm impolite?" Katrina stared at Albert, her face showing that she was clearly displeased.
