Chapter 303: Choosing New Courses

The Easter holidays were approaching, and the students at Hogwarts were getting restless, wishing for the school to go on break immediately so they could have some fun.

However, the Hogwarts professors didn't seem intent on letting the students have a peaceful Easter. They were piling on more and more assignments, creating mountains of work on their desks.

If they were to leave all the assignments to be completed during the Easter break, it was likely that they wouldn't be able to enjoy the holiday at all.

Fred and George's tempers were getting short as well. Not only did they have to juggle their homework, but they also had to find time every day to practice magic dueling with Albert, along with their Quidditch training three times a week.

Speaking of Quidditch, it was a sore spot for the Weasley twins. Gryffindor's next Quidditch match was against Hufflepuff. Despite losing two matches already, Charlie insisted that the team continue rigorous training to improve their performance for the next semester. As a result, Fred and George had barely any free time beyond their Quidditch training, magical dueling, and completing assignments.

"I feel like I'm losing weight!"

In Transfiguration class, Fred was attempting to turn a small white rabbit into a pair of slippers. He poked the poor creature with his wand while complaining to Albert beside him about how busy he had become.

If he couldn't manage to turn the rabbit into slippers, it meant he'd have to spend time practicing Transfiguration over the Easter break, which wasn't good news at all, considering their already packed schedules.

What frustrated Fred even more was that Albert had managed to successfully turn the rabbit into slippers on his first try, and after a few more attempts, his slippers were becoming more refined.

Albert was far ahead of them in Transfiguration, leaving even Ravenclaw's Katrina trailing behind.

While everyone was busy studying magic and dealing with their heavy assignments, Albert always seemed to find time for other activities, making the three of them wonder if Albert had more than 24 hours in a day. 

Comparing oneself to others often led to feelings of inadequacy, especially when the difference was so noticeable, making their moods turn sour.

"Weasley, stop tormenting that poor rabbit, or I'll have to give you detention," Professor McGonagall's stern voice interrupted Fred's complaints, and many heads turned to look at them.

"Sorry," Fred muttered, recapturing the rabbit that was trying to escape, and he imitated Albert by giving it a gentle pat on the head, attempting to calm it down.

"This is much more difficult than turning beetles into buttons," George grumbled with a look of frustration. His rabbit was still very much a rabbit. On the other hand, a few changes had occurred with Luna's rabbit – the ears had become larger and more like slippers. Clearly, it hadn't been a complete success, but any change was a positive sign.

"Do you have some secret technique for success?" Fred couldn't help but ask.

"Learning Transfiguration doesn't come with shortcuts, Weasley. Transfiguration is a delicate art that requires diligent training for success. You have a long way to go in this regard," Professor McGonagall calmly explained, not the first time she had heard someone ask such a question.

"I haven't seen how much time Albert has been investing in this!" Fred couldn't help muttering. He felt that Albert had been spending less time on Transfiguration compared to their magical dueling.

However, Fred quickly shut his mouth when he noticed Professor McGonagall's gaze shift towards them.

"With Easter coming up, I hope you won't be so absorbed in playing that you forget about your assignments. I suggest completing your respective assignments before you start enjoying yourselves. We don't want a repeat of what happened during the Christmas break," Professor McGonagall returned to the front of the classroom and pulled out a stack of papers from the roster.

The students received their lists and looked over the contents, whispering among themselves.

"This is the list of new courses. When you're in your third year, you'll need to choose new courses. During the Easter break, you'll have enough time to consider this matter carefully," Professor McGonagall's expression grew serious. "Each of you needs to choose at least two courses. If you're unsure, you can ask me or consult your elders. This decision needs to be taken seriously as it will affect your future."

"Professor, could you introduce us to these five new courses?" someone asked.

"Divination places more emphasis on talent. There are very few in the magical world who can truly foresee the future; most of them are just charlatans using divination as a cover," Professor McGonagall explained.

Many students couldn't help but smile; they had heard about the exploits of Professor Sybill Trelawney, and most believed her to be a fraud who couldn't actually predict the future.

"If you plan to work in close contact with Muggles in the future, it's best to choose Muggle Studies. Of course, I understand that some wizards grew up alongside Muggles, so they might be better suited for this field," Professor McGonagall

  continued. "Many wizards don't know how to interact with Muggles."

"Unless Muggle Studies' Professor Caridy Babaji is a wizard who grew up among Muggles," Albert whispered softly, "otherwise, I don't think that professor knows much either."

Based on Arthur Weasley's question about rubber ducks, it was evident that wizards had only a shallow understanding of Muggles.

"If you enjoy outdoor activities and interacting with magical creatures, you can choose Magical Creature Preservation."

"Charlie chose Magical Creature Preservation; he said there aren't many students in the advanced class for that subject," George whispered.

"Arithmancy and Ancient Runes are suitable for wizards who enjoy studying magic. If you aspire to be a curse breaker, you'll need to master both subjects."

"The former requires sensitivity to numbers and the ability to use numerology and grammar to predict the future. Wizards and witches who study and practice arithmancy are called arithmancers."

"The latter has some connections to archaeology and alchemy. It requires a gift for languages and a true mastery of ancient magical texts, a rare skill among wizards." Professor McGonagall's gaze lingered on Albert for a moment before continuing. "Of course, if any of you intend to take all the subjects, you can come talk to me privately. However, I don't recommend taking all the courses. The busy workload might overwhelm you. If you're not an exceptional student, I generally advise against it."

"Isabel is taking them all," Katrina muttered quietly, contemplating whether she should do the same.

"It depends on what you plan to do in the future," Professor McGonagall reminded them. "Think carefully before making your decision."

Fred, George, and Lee Jordan weren't worried at all about the difficulty of the courses they had chosen. Even if the courses turned out to be challenging, they had Albert's assistance. Moreover, they had only chosen relatively lighter courses such as Divination and Magical Creature Preservation, with no intention of pursuing those fields in the future.
