System to pass time

"Let's talk system. Tell me about your origins, your needs, your rewards, and your tasks. Everything."

The system spoke in her mind.

"I'm the Destined Love system. Because there are so many couples in your time who had sad endings or wrong ones, I'm here to put their lives on track."

Rose nodded. She understood and listened more eagerly.

"Then, why did you bind me?"

"I was supposed to bind any heroine in a plot and change other's destinies with her help. But your presence attracted me and I bound you, host."

In the end, the system's voice became shy.

Rose laughed.

"Okay, okay. I get it. So, now, I changed the plot of that lady by helping her?"

Now, the system has become more energetic.

"Yes, host. She is Lindsay Turner. She looks like her half-sister Meryl Miller. According to the male characters in the plot, at least. But her father left her mother to pursue his dream. As they weren't married, it didn't affect his remarrying."

Rose nodded. Right.

"But when Lindsay turned eight, her mother got cancer. Her treatment needed money and she was found by someone who knows the male lead, Logan Lowe."

Rose reacted.

"The guy who hurt her?"

"Yes, host. He liked Meryl but Meryl went abroad to hide from him. Now he focuses on Lindsay and treats her harshly. Just because they look similar, he feels like Lindsay stole from Meryl."

Rose frowned.

"Such idiot people can become male leads?"

"That's what I thought too, host. So we need to rescue the main characters. If you hadn't helped, Lindsay would have been hurt. She was forced to abort her baby for Meryl. And when she ran away, Logan realized that he loved Lindsay. Late love is worthless. Lindsay didn't come back till ten years later. Logan was still involved with Meryl and he again started a love-hate drama."

The system sounded angry.

"It's good that she doesn't have any relationship with him now."

"Yes, host," the system answered cheerfully.

"Then, tell me, when Asher died?"

The system froze.

"Host, this is actually related to another task. I can tell you because the characters will be soon coming to this city."

Rose became interested.

"Asher Walden is the genius brother of Cole Walden. Cole Walden rose to the position of CEO and inherited everything after Asher's death. He proved that he was better than his brother by managing the group. And he married his crush who later became his secretary."

Rose almost choked. So, Asher was working hard to give everything to his half-brother. That wouldn't irritate her much but when she thought that his handwork reaped rewards for others, she felt sorry for him.

"Okay, now let's talk about rewards and other rules."

"I have a task and reward panel. When you finish a task, you get a corresponding reward. No punishments. But you have to work your best to finish a task."

Rose nodded.

"So, what's my reward for the first task?"

"Ding. Reward Issued. Three tries at Instant Remember Card."

This seemed...useless. Rose didn't need it, right?

"Okay, keep it."

The system agreed.

"I'm going to sleep now. Let's talk more later."

Rose fell asleep here but on the other side, Lindsay went back to return the money she earned to Logan.

She didn't go near him but waited till he finished talking with a guy.

"Logan, Meryl is coming back. What about your girlfriend?"

Logan irritatedly looked at the guy.

"What girlfriend? She's just a plaything. Like someone like her could be my girlfriend. Ha. It's her good luck that God made her look like my Meryl. Otherwise, who would see her."

Lindsay stood there and smiled ruefully. Many people thought she clung to him desperately but she only wanted to work for her benefactor.

Now, the show didn't have to.

She sent her resignation mail and donated the money before leaving.

She was taking her mother away for treatment and she won't be back here.

It's just a pity that she couldn't thank the lady who helped her.

Asher didn't know about all this. But his mother was nagging him.

"Ashy, don't fall for the witch. I see how you look at her. Witches are troubles. And a Natural like you will be eaten without spitting by them."

"Mom, I don't like her."

Seeing his genuine reaction, she backed off.

Asher shook his head and went back to his room.

Granted, he was a bit interested in her. Who wouldn't be if they knew that there were magical people around you?

He remembered when he first saw her. She was like a white puppy in a den of black cats. So cute.

But then, when she met him, she was like a parrot. Now, she looked at him like an irritated cat.

It was. Interesting.

He then remembered something.

He sent her a text.

Asher: Don't forget to read all the books. You have to take a test soon.

He could imagine her angry face. Haha.

She had lied to him. She wasn't qualified for his job but with her skills, she could be in mere days.

And she was his bodyguard now so she didn't need to work as an assistant. But she didn't know that. He could tell her in two weeks.

Rose who was sleeping had no idea that her boss was pranking her as a way to get back at her.

Rose had no idea and if she knew, she would have sent him a bad luck spell. Granted, it wouldn't work if he absorbed the magic from it.

The next day, Rose woke up because the system kept blaring Dynamite song.

"Stop. Let me sleep."

The sysyem sounded offended.

"How can you sleep when you bear this beautiful song? Don't you want to get a jump start on the day when you listen to this song?"

Rose woke up and didn't answer.

"I always wanted to meet my idols. They are so awesome but I can only stream their songs."

The sad tone and the sas BGM made Rose pause.

"I need some privacy now. Shutting you down."

Rose then fell asleep again.

When she woke up naturally, five minutes before nine, she quickly got ready.

And then she unmuted the system.

"Host, you big big big big big liar."

Rose ignored all the scoldings. She had to wait for Asher to pick her up.

He was prompt and on time. Nine thirty.

"So, have you read the books?"

"What?"

There's something that hurts when the person you want to irritate doesn't know that you did something to irritate them.

"Never mind."

Rose didn't mind.

Asher was irritated for a while and then he cheered up.

Boys and their mood swings, Rose thought.

"Miss Wyatt, today, you're going to sort and file every file for the last year and then check if there are any mistakes."

Easy peasy.

Where did Asher know this? He saw that Rose was pouring over many files and thought his plan had worked.

She was just acting.

"Excuse me, can you get me an appointment with Asher?"

Rose looked up and came face to face with a handsome guy. But he looked somewhat out of place with his jeans and T- shirt here.

"Host, he is Cole Walden."

Oh, so the male lead is here?

What sparks are gonna fly now?

She should eavesdrop, right?
