On Monday morning, Rowena and Daimon were awakened by their servants to prepare for attending religious services. Daimon stifled a chuckle and quickly hid his smile when he saw Rowena look wistfully at the empty table where their breakfast usually sat.
The ritualistic way that Rowena was dressed for the service made her uncomfortable. It wasn't so much that it was done in silence, but that it was accomplished in such a solemn and austere manner. She felt as if she was being prepared as a sacrifice. Her naturally contrary nature, always wanting to do the opposite of what she expected or required to do, made her want to mess up ritual. However, she feared the consequences of such action. So, she wisely tamped down her natural impulses and obediently did as she was told.
