DREW

The courthouse loomed ahead as clambered up the concrete stairs, still feeling sluggish. It was becoming harder and harder to wake up in the mornings. Once I was done with this case I was going to take some time off.

“Top of the morning Ellington.” My boss Mr. Belding pushed himself off the wall, throwing his cigarette stub on the floor and stomping on it before kicking it to the side.

“Good morning, sir,” I replied, halting in front of him. “I didn’t know you’d be here today?

“We’ve got a problem,” he said with a grim look. “Let’s talk,” he beckoned to me to follow him to an unoccupied interview room, that was sparsely furnished with a small round table and two tub sofas. “Camille is officially bankrupt,” he delivered as soon as we’d settled down. “She can’t afford to pay us anymore so today is the last day you will be representing her.”

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse. “So what do we do?”
