In a blue flash, Virgil and Lila were standing atop a famous hotel on the highest level of Coruscant.
"Welcome to Coruscant, the best and worst planet that is at the center of all of the big empires," Lila explained to Virgil.
Coruscant was a planet with a unique standing in the universe. It was a planet located in between the Kree, Skrull, and Shi'ar Empires. Because of its unique location, none of the 3 empires were able to lay claim to the planet so it was ruled by no one. It was an almost lawless zone.
The rules here were that all that mattered was strength, money, and influence. If a being had enough of any of those 3, they could pretty much anything they want on Coruscant. Which made it the perfect starting location for Virgil.
Lila had brought Virgil to one of the 'peaceful' zones on the planet. An area that was occupied by a force that was wealthy, powerful, and influential enough to establish a solid domain and laws within it.
The area she had brought him to was controlled by the Shi'ar empire, the most 'peaceful' of the big three. Here, Virgil had plenty of chances to do as she pleased.
The duo spent the day walking around the area as she introduced several different places of interest that Virgil would be interested in such as the Hunters Guild and the public library.
The pair returned to the hotel they had landed on when they first arrived and had a meal in the restaurant there before Lila had to take off.
"My next concert is in a week and I have spent a day and a half babysitting you. I gotta go, V," Lila said as she started gathering the items she bought while they were out and about.
"Go ahead and leave then. I don't need a babysitter," Virgil replied. He knew how busy she was and was grateful she had taken as much time as she did to give him a foothold.
Lila nodded and put a bag on the table that let out a clanging noise as it was put down.
"This has 50,000 credits. I also paid for the room for 3 months. I wrote my number down on the table over there so call me in case of anything or if you head off-world. I'll be back to check on you in a few weeks."
Virgil was not given a chance to reply before she warped herself away. Virgil smiled wryly to himself before grabbing the bag of credits and heading out of the room. His first stop was the library.
---
After walking into the library, Virgil was greeted by a single being sitting behind what appeared to be a desk. The creature resembled a stereotypical demon with red skin, horns, and a pointy tail. Virgil walked up and greeted the librarian.
"Hello. Do you speak english?" Virgil asked the demon-like alien.
"Yes, I speak english. It is also called lorek, miunel, shorreshi, worbun, aheago, and rimtal. I'm guessing from you calling it english, that you are one of those humans," the demon replied.
"I am indeed a human."
"Interesting. I have only met 5 of you before but none had eyes like yours. You remind me of an olichark with those eyes. They don't have the 6 little marks on the two inner rings, though."
"I am... different from common humans. I am a part of a rare variant of the human species," Vergil explained.
"Hmm, I see. I'm guessing you are here for information. 20 credits for a card with unlimited access for a month. The library also never closes. Are you interested in that?" the demon asked.
Virgil pulled out one of the credits he brought with himself and paid the demon before getting his change and a card with many different markings on it. There was one large mark in particular on one side of the card.
"This is your access card and the room you have been inside. It is on the 4th floor. Just look for the room with that symbol on it and you'll be able to get into your room," the demon explained what the mark on the card meant but not much else.
Virgil wanted to ask more questions but seeing as the alien was done talking to him, decided against it. He had given him enough information that Virgil could handle the rest on his own.
After thanking the demon, Virgil walked through the open door next to the alien. As he passed through, a pink light screen appeared for a moment before turning blue and going away.
Virgil walked into what appeared to be the lift and pressed the button that was 4th from the bottom. The doors closed before a ding sound could be heard. Then the doors opened the next moment.
Virgil stuck his head out and saw his room symbol further down. The elevator had really traveled 4 floors in a moment.
'Alien tech is better than human tech. Got it, Lila.'
Virgil made his way into the room he was assigned. There was a bed, a desk with a chair in front of it, and a headpiece that looked similar to a Cyclop's visor except with a few more parts to it.
Guessing what he had to do, Virgil sat on the bed before placing the headpiece over his head. Once the glass covered his face, he saw a computer interface. Virgil tested it out and tried to control the system with his mind which worked easily.
After getting the hang of the search function, Virgil had a small smile on his face.
'Good. Let's get started on learning as much as I can before Lila's visit.'
---
For the next 3 weeks, Virgil did not leave the room at the library. He used all the time he had to absorb all the information that was available to him. It took even his superhuman learning capabilities 3 weeks until everything was fully downloaded.
He would still need a few days to shift through the information and delete all the useless parts but besides that, Virgil could be said to have all the public knowledge of the 3 empires inside of his mind.
Languages, social cues, species, weapons, technology, martial arts, religion, geography. It was all there. With nothing more than a quick thought, he could answer almost any fact-based question he was asked.
He also gained much needed information on the various professions around the universe. And the one that suited him best was none other than a bounty hunter.
It was a career that allowed Virgil to make an immense amount of wealth with little effort while also being free of being under someone else. He had been a member of the Avengers, X-Men, and Brotherhood of Evil.
He knew what it was like to work for someone. Always fighting for their ideals and what their justice was determined as. Even if he shared similar beliefs or ideals on justice, it was never the exact same.
As a bounty hunter, he was free of these. He could move however he pleased, never had any obligations, and would only take on tasks that he wanted to take on. No bureaucracy.
With nearly 50,000 credits in his pockets, Virgil left the library to go buy various tools. Even f he was powerful by himself, he needed to make sure he had all the proper items to ensure his life was easier.
After he stepped out of the library, his first stop was to head to the nearest gear shop. Using the map of Coruscant that had been uploaded to the library 2 months prior, he was able to find the shop without much issue.
Virgil was in and out within minutes but the two versions of him looked completely different. The Virgil that walked into the shop was wearing casual jeans and a plain blue v-neck t-shirt.
When he was out, he wore a sleeveless black shirt that came with a hood and looked like he had directly stepped out of a cyberpunk videogame. He also had a pair of matching pants on as well. Both of these had thermal insolation and controls as well as being able to shield him from the void of space and provide oxygen as long as the batteries did not run out.
On his feet were what appeared to be casual sneakers with led designs on them but these were some of the latest and most powerful grav-lock shoes one could get.
On each of his wrists were watches that served as not only communicators but also data storage devices and blue tooth controls to pretty much anything Virgil wanted to link them to. This was where the majority of his wealth went to as they each cost 15K credits.
As for weapons, Virgil did not need any but he bought a basic blaster pistol. He didn't need most of the items he bought either but he wanted to make others let down their guards around him. If they knew everything he was capable of, it would make his life much harder.
With all his prep done, Virgil began making his way to the nearest Hunters Guild location to find his first bounty as well as the first person to return him all the money he had just spend and more.
