"I'm sorry, Jessie; I made you worry," Goofy said in a low voice, noticing Jessie's concern.
"What's the use of an apology now? Wouldn't you rush up without hesitation in this situation again? Is your own life so worthless in your eyes?" Jessie asked dejectedly.
Goofy smiled helplessly. Of course, his life was seemingly worthless, as he did not originally belong to this world. Only death could return him to his original realm, a fact Jessie would never know.
"This is my job, Jessie; I'm always ready to sacrifice to protect the safety of the public. Since I joined the NYPD, I have to be responsible for my identity," Goofy explained.
"I know you are a good policeman with a sense of justice, but you have to know that your life is equally important. I can't stop you from performing your duties, but you have to take care of yourself."
"Okay, I see," Goofy nodded with a smile. "It's getting late; go home, Jessie; let Hank see you off; Brooklyn is not safe at night."
"There's no need to trouble Hank this way," Cheng Jessie rejected Goofy's suggestion, turned around, and walked out the door. As she left the ward, a nurse walked in.
This nurse was very familiar; Goofy stared at her face and immediately recognized that she was the little nurse he had rescued a few nights ago at the "junction of death."
"Have a quarrel with your girlfriend? My hero," the little nurse, named Christine, asked with a smile, her name written on her badge.
"She's not my girlfriend," Goofy laughed at himself and asked, "Where does my girlfriend come from in our business?"
"But she cares about you very much. She is a good girl," Christine, the nurse, said with a smile and came over to gently help Goofy adjust his posture on the bed. "You are also a good guy; you saved my life first and then saved dozens of families in the Southern District today."
"This is just my job," Goofy whispered.
Christine smiled lightly and immediately called the doctor: "Doctor Strange, bed 14 is awake."
Soon a young doctor in a white coat came in from the door, and Goofy was all too familiar with his long face—he was Stephen Strange.
"You were in a coma for an hour and forty-two minutes, which is a medium-length coma," Strange spoke extremely fast, and listening to him was like listening to a video that was played at 1.5 times the speed.
He walked straight to the bedside, quickly and skillfully observed Goofy's pupils, and did a few more standard tests.
"No problem; it doesn't look like the car accident did much damage to your head," Dr. Strange said it in a flat tone. If another doctor treated Goofy, he would definitely be more concerned.
"What about the fractures on the patient's chest and arm?" Christine asked nervously, "How is the situation?"
Dr. Strange immediately put on an impatient expression: "Listen, nurse, I'm only in charge of this guy's head, and I'm not interested in the other parts of his body. Will you let an engineer who specializes in CPU development go adjust the sound?"
After speaking, Strange turned and left the room.
Once he was far away, nurse Christine rolled her eyes fiercely.
"Pretentious guy, what a nuisance!"
Goofy laughed: "It looks like you don't like him."
"No one in the hospital likes him! Because he is a high-caliber student at Columbia University, he is arrogant. In fact, he is just a rookie doctor who has just joined the job. God knows who gave him such strong self-confidence," Christine spared no effort to complain about Strange. "You are really unlucky to be met with such a doctor."
Goofy didn't care: "I don't care."
Christine took a deep breath before taking down the pressure she had just received from Strange, when she suddenly looked at Goofy's arm curiously and asked in a low voice, "Huh? The last time you rescued me. What about the injury? I remember that you also broke your arm last time; why are there no marks at all? And why were you still driving today?"
It usually takes a hundred days for broken bones to heal, and fractures cannot be healed so quickly.
Goofy hurriedly lied: "Last time? I didn't have a broken bone last time. You saw it wrong."
"Impossible; I will never saw it wrong; please, I am a professional nurse," Christine said it firmly.
"You just saw it wrong," Goofy insisted, "It was dark and chaotic that night, and you were just startled again. It's possible to miss your eyes when you are in a trance."
"But I clearly remember that your arm has been deformed; how can there be no fracture?" Christine asked again, not buying his story.
Goofy broke out in a cold sweat when she asked, but at this time Hank brought someone in.
"You're awake, Brooklyn hero," Hank said with a smile. "How are you doing?"
"I'm in good shape," Goofy smiled brightly and said, "I feel like I can stop another truck."
"You are really good; you have done a great job today," Roger said with a smile. "This incident has caused a sensation in the whole of New York. The image of the NYPD has never been improved as of today."
"The lone police officer forced the van to stop," Sam praised. "I've already prepared the headline for tomorrow's news."
Goofy hurriedly said modestly, "Don't be so exaggerated; I just did my duty."
Hank patted his uninjured shoulder lightly: "Don't be humble; you are a well-deserved hero. The department will hold a commendation meeting for you, and the media will come to the ward for interviews in these two days."
"Interview?" Goofy had a headache when he heard it. he is most afraid of interviews.
The last exposure incident to "Light" has caused him to upgrade two levels in a short period of time. The impact of this incident is obviously much greater than that of "Light." Once interviewed, it is estimated that he will be swept away in one day. Can be upgraded to two more levels.
"Hank, I don't want to be interviewed."
"Why?" Hank said with an expression of "you've been bumped into a fool": "You saved a major traffic accident on your first day of job, which is an achievement that can be written into history! Once this incident is exposed, your career in the future is going up! What's more, this matter is of great significance to improving the image of the NYPD.
"As I said, I just did my duty, and there is nothing to boast about." Goofy's attitude was firm: "I never thought of myself as a hero; I was just an ordinary little police officer. Hank, please, push. Drop the media interviews or have the sheriff do interviews on my behalf; I just want to be a cop, not a star under the flash."
After hearing this, everyone at the scene was in awe.
[Admiration from Hank +2]
[Admiration from Roger +3]
[Admiration from Sam +5]
[Admiration from Christine Palmer +5]
…
Goofy silently accepted.
It is better to gain the admiration of these people than to gain the admiration of all New Yorkers after an interview.
Hank took a deep breath, then nodded slightly.
"Well, I respect your choice, Goofy; you are the best police officer I have ever seen."
"Thank you for your recognition, Hank," Goofy said it sincerely.
