Chapter 15
“Shadow, release!” Guy ordered. He’d seen someone use that command on a show he’d watched and hoped it would work. Whether it was the word, or his tone of voice, Shadow did as he’d said, but stayed where he was, his teeth bared, his stance saying if the man made one wrong move he’d attack again.
A man called out from one houses, “What’s going on? Do I need to call the police?”
Guy was sure he would no matter what he, Mack, or their attackers said. Footsteps behind him seconds later had him whirling around. Tone and Dani stood there, each holding a short, thick piece of doweling.
“Need some backup?” Tone asked.
“Naw, we’re good,” Mack replied. “These guys were just leaving, weren’t you?” He shot a hard look at the attackers.
The man Mack had hit had regained his breath. Although it was obvious he was in pain, he put his arm around his wounded friend’s waist, spitting out, “This ain’t over.”
