Chapter 1Fight me!

"Ha!"

"Hiyaa!"

Two young voices echoed through the courtyard. Under a nearby willow tree, an old man stood seemingly relaxed. The old man stroked his reddish-brown beard as he monitored the two kids as they fought.

The first child was a girl with scarlet red hair tied into a bun. Her freckles and short nose made her appearance extraordinarily impulsive, and that trait was reflected in the way she was attacking her opponent. She held nothing back and kept moving forward.

Her opponent, on the other hand, was a black-haired child who was on the defensive. Never engaging the monster that was charging at him.

"Shin! If you keep dodging, I will hit you!"

"What do you mean?! You've been trying to hit me all the while!"

The girl, Ariel threatened the young boy.

"Shin! Come on! Stop dodging! It won't hurt! I promise!"

"As if a punch from a bulldog like you won't hurt."

"What did you say?!"

Ariel seemed to have a surge of adrenaline rush to her head after Shin's comment. She jumped into a frenzy with a barrage of fists.

"Hey! Shit, she snapped! First Elder help me!"

The old man who was peacefully watching the fight play out gave a short sigh and slowly walked towards the girl who lost control.

"Hahahahah! Let this bulldog teach you a le… Hey Grandpa! What are you doing?! I have yet to make Shin cry!"

Ariel exclaimed as her grandfather grabbed her by the hand and carried her up.

"Ariel… You shouldn't take things too far. And Shin, you had it coming when you provoked her."

"But First Elder!" "But Grandpa!"

"Enough! I should have known letting you two spar would lead to this… No dinner for both of you tonight!"

""What!""

The bearded old man stroked his beard as he slowly walked away from the dumbfounded children.

"It's your fault! Grandpa is mad at me now!"

"You were the one who wanted to hit me!"

"Then guess what's going to happen now?"

Ariel raised her fist and gave Shin a menacing look. Fearing for his life, Shin ran away from the monster that was threatening it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Frie Clan. A clan with a history spanning over a thousand years and has been around since the last Spirit Immortal ascended into the Immortal Realm. Situated atop of a dormant volcano, the Frie clan was one of the many clans in the Himmel Empire.
Being located in a place where the fire elements thrive, the descendants of the Frie clan were blessed with Fire spirits from birth and have gone on to contribute to countless of battles for the Himmel Empire.
However, ten years ago, a battle that nearly wiped out the entire Frie Clan concluded. To recuperate their strength, the once proud Frie Clan that wouldn't cower in the face of danger was forced to enter seclusion in their holy mountain.
"Ouch! Can't you be gentler?"
"Can't you be smarter? How many times have I dressed an 'Ariel wound' of yours? Although you guys are childhood sweethearts, she sure doesn't hold back."
"WE ARE NOT CHILDHOOD SWEETHEARTS! Who would like that violent ape?"
"Yeah yeah… Deny it all you want but the rest of us have a bet that you would end up together."
"What? Then I bet that she and I won't end up together and take all your money."
Shin was sitting on his bed topless, revealing a multitude of bruises. Treating him was a teenage boy four years older than him and recently promoted Spirit Apostle, Junius.
"Joke all you want! By the way, are you prepared for next week?"
"Hmmm? What's happening next week?"
Shin gave Junius a quizzical look.
"My god you are clueless..."
"What?"
"It the Day of Spirits! You are awakening your spirit dumbass!"
"Oh yeah..."
Shin replied to Junius in an uninterested manner.
"Wow. That's the response I wanted. Didn't you realize it when First Elder increased your training and made you fight Ariel?"
"So that's why the crazy old man did that."
"You sure are unrestrained… Nobody else in our group would dare call First Elder that."
After the Frie clan went into seclusion, they accepted orphans to increase their dwindling numbers. The children were put in the care of the First Elder to groom. Junius and Shin were part of that group.
"Of course I don't say it to his face. He has a kind and gentle exterior, but the insides are just like a grown-up Ariel. If someone told me that they were not related instead I would have told them that they were crazy."
"Either way it seems that he dotes on you quite a bit. The others were quite jealous."
"Try taking his whip of love before you get jealous..."
Shin shivered as he recalled the numerous times the First Elder disciplined him.
"No thank you. That whip is exclusively for your personal use. I wouldn't want to infringe on your rights."
"You assshole..."
This banter continued on for an extended period of time showing off the kinship between the two. Junius was the oldest of all the orphans and was considered to be the big brother. Every single child would go to him for advice, and he would reply in kind. Junius was four when he was adopted into the Frie clan and had no memory of his family. Being the oldest, Junius believed that he had to be the most responsible one. Whenever an orphan was being bullied by those in the main family, he was the first to stand up against them.
"HEY SHIN!"
As Shin and Junius continued their bickering, a deafening shriek sounded outside their lodging.
"Oops, Wifey's here!"
"She's not my… Argh, whatever."
Shin groaned as he grew lazy to retort Junius whenever and unwillingly got out of bed.
"Try not to make her angry. I just treated your bruises, my services for an 'Ariel wound' is only limited to once per day."
Junius was not going to pass up on an opportunity to make fun of his little brother.
"Shut up..."
Shin reached the main door and slowly opened it. In front of him was a young girl in her pyjamas looking not older than ten. Her appearance was not the prettiest in the world, but there were numerous charms that could be pointed out.
"Shin!"
Ariel greeted Shin as he opened the door.
"Ariel, you know you shouldn't be here at this hour. The headmistress will scold both of us if she finds out!"
"Urgghhh… That old lady. It's okay I won't stay long. As I was getting ready to sleep, I realized that we have not settled our fight!"
"What? You want to go now?"
"Nah, that would be too boring! Next week, after we awaken our spirits, then we can fight!"
"Why?"
"Cause it would be much more interesting!"
Ariel smiled brightly as she proposed a dangerous scenario for Shin. She happily skipped away from Shin's lodging. After she moved a certain distance, Ariel turned back to make one final declaration.
"Get ready to fight me!"
Dual Cultivation God Returns
"Wu Long, the God of Pleasure, has fallen as he failed to breakthrough." This news have shocked all of the Seven Boundless Worlds. Meanwhile, a sixteen-year-old disciple of a dual cultivation sect was startled awake from a coma, and after some moments of calming down and gathering his thoughts, a dangerous light flickered deep in his eyes: "Jun Shaoshan, I will climb back to the top and make you pay for everything, no one has ever been safe after offending me, Wu Long!" -------------- Dual cultivation is a method of cultivation that can be seen described in a lot of cultivation novels where a man and a woman cultivates together by having sex. -------------- ***DIscord Link: https://discord.gg/JfSRtJVXTd The Image on the cover is AI-generated with some minor adjustments and text editing done over it. Please check the auxiliary chapter with Frequently Asked Questions since there may be some answers to the questions you might want to ask. If you want to ask questions regarding the novel before reading you can do so in the comment section of the said auxiliary chapter. Thank you XD -------------- ***The explicit chapters will be marked in the chapter name after the chapter number as (R18) and will contain no crucial plot, only explicit scene, so if you want to read it as a novel without explicit scenes you absolutely can by just skipping the explicit chapters. Though as a disclaimer: dual cultivation IS the theme of the novel so there will still be some provocative or slightly explicit content in the normal chapters, but not full-on long explicit scenes. ***Since it seems that there are a lot of people that are very particular about what they want I will put here some of the things to expect so that it is easier for people to decide if they want to read this or not: - NO yaoi, NO yuri, NO incest ; - NO rape ( it may be mentioned, but only as a thing that exists, not in relation to any particular character ); - MC's heroines will NEVER cheat on him; - MC's heroines will NOT ALWAYS have V cards (but there will be a lot of them who do); These are all non-negotiable so if you cannot tolerate a novel that adheres to any of the above sentences you should probably skip this one. !!! This is probably one of the harder reviews I've written. To give away the ending, Spirit Immortal comes in the the low B/high C range for me, but I'm pretty brutal with my reviews so that's actually a pretty high score for me. The difficulty comes in that the way I would score the later chapters are vastly different from how I would rate the early chapters. If I was to break it down by volumes the first two volumes score in the D range, volumes three and four are B's while volumes five and six both rate a solid A. Spirit Immortal is honestly a fairly sweeping tale set with a cultivation backdrop. I phrase it like that specifically because even though the MC is always working towards a higher cultivation, it isn't the cultivation as his goal it is instead a tool he uses to measure himself by. The main flaw is that Spirit Immortal is a Character Driven novel where the main character doesn't start with a clear goal. He goes as far to describe himself as a leaf carried by whichever way the water flows. This isn't bad but it's much harder to write in the early chapters then if you were writing a Story Driven novel, where the plot moves along because of an external factor, i.e. an enemy army is coming or you have to defeat the demon king. The comments on the early chapters highlight this indirectly, where people attack the author for useless details and pointless arcs. Reading through the whole story, these comments aren't true as you encounter a similar amount of details and varied arcs in other novels, but it's how the readers perceive the story since they are reading it 'in the moment'. What it actually is is a problem in pacing and *******. Since the motivation comes from the character but the character is still discovering the world around them it's hard to generate the appropriate feeling of ******* in order to carry the story. The way you mitigate this is with foreshadowing and switching character viewpoints in order to portray what's happening external to the MC that will move the story forward and create a sense of crisis. The ******st way for me to phrase is it that it's ok if your main character is aimless and doesn't seem to know where he's going, but you can't let your story seem that way. However this problem disappears to a large degree by the beginning of volume three, the momentum which the story has built starts to sweep up the reader. However this also means you have to read a hundred chapters in to get to juicy parts of the story, which makes it a hard novel for me to recommend. There are a lot of absolutely brilliant characters in this story, but you have to take your time to get to know them and the world they build around themselves. Since the author has stated that he isn't interested in participating in the premium program on Webnovel I'm actually going against the advice I've given to every other author here: Don't go back and rewrite your story, it *always* turns out *bad*. In this case I would actually encourage the author to hire either a Developmental Editor or a Story Coach to help revise the story and then publish it electronically himself. Alternatively just treat it as your 'first million words' and keep going.
If I have to be sincere, I read this novel till the end thanks to the characters around the MC... his friends, his teacher/master, his lover. As for the MC and the plot development? I felt disappointed and betrayed many times. The novel is well written with even the 'power-level' being well balanced. Sadly, I read and closed the novel for nothing more but curiosity and hope that the author won't mess or kill with the characters I so much loved in the story. The novel itself starts very slow-paced, but that is rather refreshing. The author knows well how to write the everyday events, training routine, common and funny days, etc. The first marking event of the novel that makes the MC completely abandon his 'home' in midst of the loss of his loved ones is what annoyed me from the start. How I can say... gave me that, "Oh~how convenient" vibe? That was the first forced part that I felt, and sadly many more appeared. The MC is TOO slow in maturing. We reach a point of the novel where he despite being aware of the dangers and 'loving' his friend and family, time and time again bought them to danger that could be avoided by chasing in the future when he was stronger (after all, the MC is aware of his own genius). Strangely, while he always ignores this act of neglecting his loved ones, he always breaks with random people or those that wanted to harm, r*ape or kill his family and friends. Of course, the character regretting or hesitating to kill a person is normal, but... the author messed so much with the forced events that he felt 'necessary', that the MC becomes something hateful, at the very least, for me. Concluding, is an amazing and complete story, but with adevelopment and ending that made me hate the novel even while living the characters.
