Chapter 15
Luke left the house at six. He squeezed past the overbearing pick-up truck in the driveway, camping backpack on one shoulder and guitar on the other. He waited at the park but by dark he didn’t get a text or call from River, so he moved to the chain hotel to try. May as well do both experiences. He tried to sleep by ten, but it wasn’t working so he pulled on a hoodie and left. The nearest bar was a forty-minute walk from the hotel, but what else did he have to do? He technically saved money by staying at River’s the past two weeks so he wouldn’t feel guilty about another rideshare, but opening the app was too much energy right now. He was tired of checking his phone.
