"Seeking Forgiveness" or "Asking for Forgiveness"(2)

Jane's breathing tightened with every wave as John's anger flared up. Her hands hung limply at her sides, clenching into fists. "I don't know," she said.

"Ah--" Her words had barely left her mouth when John seized her wrist, his reddened eyes fixed on her. "You know what I want to know most."

Jane gritted her teeth, her mind beginning to fracture. "If there's no such person, what do you want me to tell you?"

John sneered. "No one? Then how did Jack come to be?"

His tone was cold and filled with contempt, as though she were an animal that could mate with anyone.

She winced in pain as she shook him off, glaring at him with anger and disappointment.

He laughed coldly, wiping his hands with a damp tissue. "You and that bastard can stay here until you're ready to tell me the truth."

With that, he turned and left.

Jane immediately tried to follow him out, but was stopped by several men in black. They pushed her back into the villa, and the heavy bronze doors slammed shut behind her, impossible to open no matter how hard she tried.

Half an hour later, she began searching the villa for something and eventually found Jack in the dark attic.

Jack curled up in a corner by the wall, his little face turning pale.

"Jack, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she didn't expect John to be so cruel as to leave a toddler alone in the dark. She shouldn't have trusted that he had a heart, she should have come earlier.

"Mama, I'm okay," Jack rushed into her arms, though he said he was okay, his small body was trembling.

She took Jack downstairs to the living room, letting him rest. She found out that he hadn't eaten anything today except for a little water.

Her heart ached, and she quickly went to the kitchen to look for food, but the refrigerator was empty, there was nothing.

She tried to make a phone call for help, but found that the signal was blocked.

Was John trying to kill them both?

She had no choice but to boil water first and then search the huge villa. She turned on all the lights, and every corner was spotlessly clean, without a trace of food residue.

Walking on the cold, hard marble floor, she had an urge to cry, but she held back.

Jack was sensible, aware of their situation, and although he was very hungry, he didn't complain, just obediently drank water.

Watching him, her heart was about to break.

The two of them endured silently until midnight when her phone suddenly rang. She thought it was John having a change of heart and answered quickly, "Hello--"

There was silence for a moment, then a childish voice came over the line, "Is that Mama?"

It was Jill.

She was excited, "Yes, it's Mama..."

"Mommy, Daddy said you're getting a divorce, is it true?" the tender and delicate voice made her heart ache, and her eyes began to water.

"Jill, I'm sorry, Mama has to do this, but Mama loves you, always loves you." Because of her illness, she couldn't even fight for custody with John.

The pain in her heart, as well as her helplessness and bitterness, no one could understand, no one could understand.

"Oh, Jill knows," and then Jill hung up the phone.

That night, she held onto her phone and didn't close her eyes again.

Jack knew she was upset and couldn't sleep because of hunger. His little body hugged her arm and leaned against her.

The spacious villa, for them, was like a tomb, cold and eerie.

They managed to endure until dawn when the front door of the villa suddenly banged open.
