Magical forest (2)

Logan couldn't believe his eyes. The so-called Meredith was a different entity than any normal humans. She acted any way but aggravatingly normal as any other human could and Logan wondered what was so different about her.

Her face was so small, her body was so tiny, her fingers almost invisible to his eyes, he might have stretched the words a little but it was his honest review. Her existence is like a bizarre dream to him. And she oddly had the same vibe as someone that he knew too well.

He studied her in his eagle eyes when she wasn't looking and was equally distracted by his fin, trying to catch any abnormality. What was her? It's not like he could put her under the influence once again and ask. In truth, he couldn't bewitch her anymore. The spell was broken once she learned his name through his own mouth.

She was interesting enough to pique his interest. Her eyes didn't carry malice or prejudice like any other human. She was so pure. The cute face was the extra point to tackle his heart. He, after all, the sucker of all the cute things in the world.

"Are you not scared of me? I might eat you like crunchy fries." He said nonchalantly but his heartbeat thumping extra miles. Gulping the thick saliva in his heart.

Crunchy fries? We have crunchy fries here? It's the same as french fries, right?

"Scared of you? You don't eat humans."

Oh, she knew. "You know. How do you know?" Logan scooted closer towards her. His dry body leaned towards her. The only evidence he was wasting his time on dry land was his dry shiny and warm body. A siren has a natural cold body as they were one with the water, but a warm body couldn't kill them. It just makes them hotter with the sun's heat. That's all.

Elizebeth resisted the urge to roll her eyes, only out of respect for the new friend, and said, "I know you. I said it before."

"You are peculiar."

"Peculiar." She said the end word together with Logan in an annoyed voice yet her face was still smiling. "Thank you for the compliment." She picked her gown and bow respectfully to Logan. It was not a compliment and she knew Logan was playing but she didn't care.

"Sorry," he quickly apologized as he was capable of comprehending her sarcastic attitude. Breathed out in grimace. "My Lady, it's not my intent to disrespect my savior."

"I'm not your savior yet but will be. Tell me which flower should I pick, which direction?" She didn't give him much time to idle around. She was a busy woman. She must be in front of the fallen knights and maid as soon as they wake up.

Logan moved his mouth without any sound. He looked equally shocked. Turns out she indeed knew what she was doing. Siren was a difficult creature. Their medicine couldn't be found underwater. All their herbs must be harvested on the land. Hence why they were famous water creatures that constantly lived in and out of the water.

They had their own village to grow their herbs. They used to deal with humans in the Shariz Kingdom but due to sudden malice rumors, they moved inside the magical forest to secure their life. Unfortunately, there's no place to plant the herbs near the water, the only place they found around the mountain area, a few meters away from the water.

"Siren planted their herbs around water…" She started so suddenly as she examined the place around her, put her hands on her waist like an angry mom.

"Oh," Logan couldn't believe his ears.

"The place is crowded by other plants. You wish not to destroy another being for your own selfishness, so you planted far from your original place." She concluded without hearing any explanation from Logan.

"Oh." This lady was full of surprise. Logan had to press a hand to his mouth to surpass his own emotion. "You are full of surprise, My Lady." He said in a respectful voice. The playfulness has gone and changed with his full respect for her. This was his first time talking to a human that has zero prejudice and did pay attention to his species existence.

"The place please, sir Logan. I wish to return as soon as possible before my people wake up."

Logan couldn't take his eyes off her. She was blinded by the invisible halo on top of her head. Her face might be just as mysterious and closed-off as ever. He couldn't get a read on her. Never has been able to during their entire conversation. She was like a massive puzzle with a small puzzle piece. It takes time to know her completely or he wouldn't be able to do it ever. She was so inexplicable and hard to approach.

She exhibited an absolute aura.

"Follow the whisper of the trees."

'Just follow the yellow and orange tree.'

This time the voice of Demien inside her dream disturbed her calm demeanor. She thought of something, maybe the actual sentence of Demien was to follow the whisper of yellow and orange trees. That's the only explanation she came up with. If she followed the whisper of the trees, where it would lead her to?

In the novel, Elizebeth was captured by the king during the escape. She'd never seen her aunt nor she ever knew their face until the end. Her stupid happy ending forced the real Olivia to forget about the aunt. She was curious about the aunt yet the author didn't reveal it until the end. The eagle carriage was the riddle for the Chandler family to solve and they failed to decipher it.

Logan took his chance to observe Elizebeth. Surprisingly, the dark and gold aura circled her as if it was protecting her. He smiled. They've met them. They set their eyes on her. He didn't blame them. She's the epitome of cute yet sophisticated.

"Should I go alone?"

Logan smiled again. "If you, you will be alright. You have received the protection from the ultimate beings." He breathed low.

"Yes?"

"Nothing. Thank you in advance."

She lifted her brow, pressed her lips thin. "I need to go alone?"

She looked at him as if he was crazy, and Logan must notice because he said, "follow the whisper of the trees. You will be okay, Meredith. The flowers are welcoming you."

"How do you know?" She looked exactly like she didn't believe him.

"Because I say so." He sounded proud. "And I'm not bluffing." He added.

Elizebeth blinked and shifted the gaze away from him. "Did I say anything offensive?"

Logan sniffed. "Your eyes did."

She turned back, blinked innocently, or feigned ignorance. "My eyes did?"

"Yes."

Elizebeth stared at him for a moment, considering. "You can read my eyes now?"

"So it seems."

"We know each other well enough for telepathy?"

Logan scratched his head for a moment, rethinking. His eyes blink slowly and his lips tilted into a small benign smile. "I wish," he finally answered.

Elizebeth shifted her legs closer to the handsome siren. The sharp teeth were so prominent and disturbing but it's perfect on the face, regardless. He was a handsome man, still. She crouched down and gazed at the siren as she cupped her cheeks with both hands. She shifted her head to peer more closely at Logan, the loud breath of the siren didn't bother her the slightest.

A small prankish smile as the sigh escaped her lips. She connected her gaze intensely meant for him alone. "Charm me if you wish for us to be friends." She murmured low while scrunching her nose.

Logan cleared his throat and hoped the flush he felt working its way up his neck wasn't noticeable. The lady was too close, only a few inches away from him. Her hot breath hitting his skin, flushing his face almost reddening his cheeks. It was fine, though. He could disguise the redness as being under the sun long enough. Finally, he said, "better be hurry."

Elizebeth jerked and nodded, shuffling backward and rose. "Yeah." She turned, breaking eye contact with Logan.

"I think- think a storm is coming," he remarked in a low voice as he pulled his eyes from Elizebeth. "The 'storm' inside my heart." Her face oddly looked addictive and pleasant to his eyes. He would never be bored with that cute face.

She looked up to the sky, her nose moving and sniffing the air. "Mmm, how very fitting."

Logan didn't understand the sudden remarks of her and had time to ask when the lady abruptly turned around and walked towards one of the trees. He didn't have to tell her anything because Elizebeth seemed to know what she was doing. Saved him from an arse long explanation. This was his first time watching a human who has deep knowledge about the magical forest and the siren.

And of course, she knew. She knew everything. She was after all the avid reader of this stupid book. The memory may be blurry but she knew the general idea in handling things around here. She wasn't exactly clueless. The feeling spreading across her body as she tried to remember the whole story of the book like it was part of her life. She's the strongest person in this forest.

Knowledge is powerful, yeah.

It's like she was cheating but she wasn't. She was forced to be inside the novel. A sufficient amount of knowledge is a must for her survival.
