Adela was ready to go. The maids had already taken all her boxes down, but she had one last thing she needed to take with her. She went to her bedside table and opened the drawer. Amidst the clutter was the ring box the Myrian king had given her. She picked it up and flicked it open. The diamond ring was still there, glinting at her. She looked at it and then flicked the box closed. She picked up her purse from the end of the bed, opened it, and put the ring box inside.
When she bade farewell to her parents, she wondered if she should put it on, especially when her mother looked at her bare finger critically. The idea of whether she should put it on or not played on her mind as she was being driven to the airport. A part of her told her to pull it out and slide it on her finger. Another part of her thought it was not the right time. But when was the right time? Maybe when she was in Myria and her engagement was being announced.
