Queen of Adis

Haru slowly opened her beautiful amber eyes upon hearing the merry chirpings of the birds. She reflexively felt the space beside her and felt a bit disappointed when she realized that her devil was no longer there. As she sat up to look around, she felt her body ached, particularly her hips and the haven between her thighs. It was a sweet ache, though, and she knew the reason why.

She blushed upon remembering her wanton behavior last night.

She finally stood up and walked towards the bathroom. After she freshened up, she heard a soft knock at the door. When she opened it, she saw her close and loyal ladies-in-waiting, Millie and Hannah, kowtowing in front of her. They're half-beast and half-demon.

"Greetings to her majesty, the sole queen of Umbra. May your reign prosper and your legacy live forever."

She waved her hand and asked them to stand up. "Enough with the formality. I told you to speak casually when it's just the three of us. Please help me to prepare." She walked past them and stood in front of a life-size mirror.

She heard them giggled and teased her while dressing her up. She had long grown immune to it. After all, it happened every after a passionate night with her devil.

"His Majesty has gone out early today. I heard from the soldiers that the King of Lumine was throwing tantrums again, hence, the gatekeeper of the realms came to ask for his majesty's assistance. His Majesty instructed us to not wake you up and let you rest." Millie proactively informed her.

Out of her two servants, Millie loved to gossip and the most talkative one. She's also very good at gathering information and creating connections. While Hannah was a great cook and a famous potion maker.

After the expert assistance of her maids, she looked at herself in front of the mirror and was very satisfied with her reflection. Her long curly hair was in half up and braided into flower crowns, and enhanced it with beautiful hair accessories. Her white and gold conservative cut long dress hugged her body in all the right places, highlighting her delicate curves. Her face was bare as she never liked to put any make-up on which only accentuated her innocent beauty.

They finally walked towards the king's study chamber to await the arrival of Adis. On their way, she was happily greeted by the palace's servants and knights. In their eyes reflected the respect and admiration to their queen.

Her beauty was ethereal, and her aura was gentle and bright. Whenever she walks, flowers bloomed on her trail, and the air around her carried the scent of spring.

When she arrived in this world, she found out that it's called, Trium Regum. The said world was divided into three realms; Lumine, Atlantis, and Umbra.

Lumine, also known as the Realm of Light, was like the world she came from. It's the kingdom of human beings. Nobles, church ministries and some ordinary citizens also possessed magic and special abilities. It was the largest realm among the three and was ruled by His majesty, King Zen Delacroix, Adis' youngest brother.

Atlantis was the kingdom in the middle of the ocean. They called it the Realm of Waters and the home to different mythical creatures and spirits. Its population was second to Lumine and in good terms with all the species in the three realms due to the citizens' friendliness and its ruler's level headed nature. The king of Atlantis was Aquarius Delacroix, Adis' second brother.

The last was Umbra, the Realm of Darkness. It's known for its dark entities such as demons, beasts, undead and dark magic. It was a small kingdom, though, its resources were abundant. Many nobles of different realms coveted it but failed miserably. It's mysterious and destructive powers surpassed the combined forces of the two other realms, but only one ruler was able to hold and control it, the Demon King, -- Adis Delacroix. However, he left the worldly affairs to his two brothers and decided to leave in seclusion to his dark palace.

It was obvious that her kind shouldn't be in Umbra, as her appearance to this world was deemed a blessing from gods. Because of her, the years of winter ended and came the dawn of spring.

But, Adis fell in love with the spring maiden at first sight. And for the first time in centuries of being a king, he took advantage of his peerless power just to have her. He even wreaked havoc upon the entire realms and killed countless nobles and church ministers who dared to stand between them.

Adis' two younger brothers even supported him, waging a tragic war between human and non-human beings.

To stop the war and to pacify the King of Umbra, Haru announced that she will marry Adis and live with him in the Realm of Darkness. Despite the violent reactions of the nobles and churches, their grand wedding took place in Lumine.

But a human being won't last in Umbra even for a day due to the poison and dark miasma in the air. However, amongst the ruler of the entire realms, Adis was the most powerful and the richest. During their wedding ceremony in Lumine, he asked his two brothers to gift their sister-in-law with their blessings.

King Zen gifted her with the Divine Protection. It was a sacred barrier that connected to the three brothers and it would be activated if someone would try to harm her. It's also a tool to instantly locate her whereabouts. King Aquarius gifted her with the Geyser of Life. The gift purifies the air and liquid inside her body, hence, her breathing and bodily function were not affected by the poison and miasma in Umbra. These two gifts once cast to someone, could never be cast to anyone else again, unless the blessed person died.

The last gift came from Adis. To prevent her body to corrode from the dark miasma of Umbra and to give her eternal youth, Haru must absorb Adis' life force and bodily fluid. The act was called Eros.

In reality, even without the first two blessings, a human can be married to a citizen in Umbra and live peacefully in the realm through the act of Eros. However, it's a different story for Haru as the energy inside the dark palace was enough to suffocate any human even after consuming eros.

In Umbra, eros could be done by kissing or having sex with your fated mate. But it may also be fatal if done with the wrong person. In a nutshell, if Adis would kiss or have sex with another human, it would have a reverse effect -- the human body would immediately corrode and die.

Just like the two earlier blessings, Adis could only give eros to one person alone -- to his fated love.

"Good morning, Fang!" Haru greeted one of Adis' trusted aide upon entering the study chamber. He was currently organizing the documents on the table from the most important to the least important.

Adis used to have a guardian statue. It was a three-headed canine demon beast called Cerberus. He gave life to the statue with the use of his dark power. He gave every head a body and identity, and became his most trusted servants, The Ignis brothers. Each held an important position in the palace.

Fang Ignis was King's Royal Chamberlain. He's responsible for the Adis' personal and business affairs, as well as the supervision of the entire palace's servants. His second brother, Graves, was responsible for the King's security and the General of the entire demon soldiers. The youngest brother, Drako, often works in the field as the palace's public relations head and supervised the economic affairs of Umbra.

Given that they originally came from one body, the Ignis brothers looked identical; their upper body was in wolf form and the lower part of their body was in furry human form. The only difference between them was the color of the flames on their tails.

"Greetings to her majesty, the sole queen of Umbra. May your reign prosper and your legacy live forever." He gave the same formal greetings and gave her a gentle smile. "His Majesty is on his way home. Shall I announce His Majesty's schedule for today?"

Haru shook her head. "No need. Judging by the mountain of documents he has to sign, I assume he'll be staying in the palace throughout the day. I'll be waiting for the King here. Is General Graves with him?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. My brother will ensure the King's safe return," Fang answered respectfully then faced her servants. "Hannah, Millie, prepare the Queen's meal and serve it here."

Both of the ladies bowed in front of her before leaving to prepare her meal. Fang offered some books for her to read while waiting for the king. Everyone in the entire realms knew that the Queen of Adis loves reading books and peaceful surroundings. That's why the king renovated the palace's library and expanded the collection of books just for her.

However, when Haru flipped the first page of her chosen book, they heard noises and commotion outside of the room.

Fang's brows furrowed in annoyance. 'Who dares to disturb the peace of our Queen? He shall be punished severely.'

He stepped towards the door and was about to open it when someone burst inside the room.

Both the queen and the aide were surprised upon seeing their uninvited guests.
