Jane and Tasha walk closer to Maria as she descends from her seat; they stood in front of her and smiles ready to gossip.

"What do you really think about Davina's marriage to the King, I am sure you must be happy now that the only thorn in your flesh will be gone soon" Jane started and they both laugh

"What nonsense are you both saying?" Maria rebukes them

"We are not saying nonsense, we know how much you hate her, everyone does" Tasha responded

"I don't hate her" Maria sighed tired of their constant gossip

"Then will you be willing to let Jessica get married to the King instead? Are you going to save Davina instead of your own child?" Tasha asked her.

She is quite fearless since she also comes from a reputable family and Maria has always been too lenient with them.

"Davina is also my daughter!" She yells.

"As if, she has never acknowledge you as her mother, anyways we will be leaving to prepare for the banquet tonight" they both bow a little and left

"Mother, I will also like to attend the banquet too" Jessica stated and Maria gives her a disapproving look

"I know mother but Davina is no longer going and the family can't disobey the order of the King again, one of us must be present" Maria sighed before answering

"Okay you may go but be sure to behave yourself and represent our family well" she said since she is not well enough to make the journey down to the palace.

"Thank you mother" Jessica said and bows slightly to her before turning to leave...

..."My lady, finally you are able to achieve your plan" Maya, Jessica's personal maid said as they walk back to their quarters. Jessica smiled at her comment and that gave her the boldness to continue

"I already have everything ready and put in place for you for tonight, now we don't have to carry out our plan of hurting Lady Davina…"

"Shh" Jessica said and turns sharply to her upset

"What are you going to do if someone hears you?" she cautions.

"Am sorry my lady" she apologized

"But why is the Madam always hard on you, she should have given you this opportunity in the first place and you even have to ask before she let you go"

"Don't speak about my mother that way, she's just too kind although someone never acknowledge her effort"

"Exactly my point, Lady Davina has always been suppressing you from the day you were born because she is older and the only daughter of Master's first love"

"Maya, I've told you not to complain about this thing anymore, I don't care about things like that now. No one can step in my way" she said firmly...

After Davina returned to her room, she went to take a hot bath and her maids wears another dress for her different from the one they prepared.

Davina ponders on her words earlier about getting married to Cornelius and thinks once again that it is not a bad idea.

Although she doesn't share any affection with him but he is the best choice right now. If she doesn't make a move now then she might really have to live in the palace with him.

Thinking about Jessica also and how the position might be passed to her makes her want to have a rethink

She already told her father to let her get married first but unfortunately there is no good suitor come for her so she remains unmarried too.

Davina told Arya to style her hair into a beautiful ponytail and use a lot of jewelries.

Since waiting for her father to come around and accept her choice will take a few days then she might as well go to propose the marriage herself.

"My lady, what exactly are you thinking? Why would you want to marry Master Cornelius?" June asked puzzled and unsatisfied with her decision.

They don't like the way she is trying to go for a worse choice to forfeit the Queen's title, it is better to die as the King's woman than to be known as wife to a useless man

"Is this really the only option we have? Even though getting married to the King is dangerous but you shouldn't let Miss Jessica go to the banquet instead of you"Arya also tried to persuade her.

"She can go if she wants to" Davina answered determined not to go.

The both of them remain silent and quietly make her hair and apply the right jewelries on her, June goes to get a pair of silver shoes for her.

"My Lady, Why don't we meet with the King today and try to cancel the agreement?" Arya suggested

A marriage is not a thing of a few years, whichever family she gets married into is whom they will be associated with forever

"I know you are worried about my decision but don't worry, Cornelius is a better choice trust me and I wouldn't have to live with other women married to my husband" she answered as June returns with her shoes.

"Get me some expensive drinks and gold with a lot of valuables; also prepare a carriage with twenty servants. We will set out in ten minutes" Davina instruct them.

They bow their head and left to carry out her orders quickly.

Davina rides in her fancy carriage with her eyes closed and a smile on her lips, she feels very satisfied with herself after getting a marriage agreement with Cornelius's parents.

The whole family was happy to see her and immediately accept her proposal although it's against the rules for a girl to go herself to propose but Davina had a good excuse for that.

"I love your son" she told them and they were convinced and told her they with be coming over for a proper proposal the next day, with that, she can get married in three days.

"June! How long more will it take till we get home?" She asked

"In a few minutes" she replied.

Her family will be back from King's banquet soon and then she can tell them the news, even though her father will not be happy but he will have to accept her decision eventually.

The carriage arrived at the front of their mansion and Arya help her get down and they head inside the house, as they approach the main hall, they noticed that house is scattered and the whole place looks different from how they left it

None of the servant standing around seems to notice them and didn't greet her as they seem to be discussing something intense.

"Don't you see the young lady?!" June bark at one of the maid who almost bump into them.

"Am sorry, sorry my Lady" she apologized quickly going on her knees and others also turn around to see her and went on their knees.

"Did something happen? Why is everyone out here?" Davina asked, she raise her head to see that even Maya is outside with them and not with her mistress.

"My Lady, something terrible has happened" the maid told her and Davina raise her brows confused.

"Where is father?" She questioned and the maid became silent as others also bury their heads down.

"My Lady!" Arya called worried and the three of them hurried inside the hall to find no one.

The servant earlier followed them and informs her that everyone is in Maria's quarters.

She turned and went there quickly to find everyone in a sober mood, Louis was first to meet her and told her Maria has collapsed and just wake up

"Collapsed? Why?" She queried and noticed that Jessica is not in sight.

"Father...Father is in trouble, an allegation was raised against him today at the banquet that he has been harboring a group of rebels and planning to help them overthrow the King" Louis explained.

"What rebels? Who spilled that nonsense?" She shouted getting upset and just then Maria opened her eyes and calls her name.

"Davina" She called and they all went to her side with Davina at the front.

She sat down beside her bed and held her hand for the first time since she turned five.

"Davina, you have to do something, you must save your father" she stuttered with tears.

"What do you mean save him? The truth has not been confirmed yet and Father will never do that" she said but Maria shakes her head silently at her naive words

"After the allegations was laid against him, he tried to deny them and explain to the King but he had people come over immediately and they found some of the people your father gave shelter to and employed to work for him recently" she said and coughs making her pause before she continues weakly.

"Turns out they are not homeless people but rebels who escape in the last fight years ago, your father couldn't defend himself and he was taken away by the King's guards" she finish explaining and starts coughing profusely.

Davina instruct one of the maids to get water and her medicine while she held her, Maria developed her sickness after giving birth to Jessica and since she has a weak body, she has been living on medicines.

Davina feels greatly worried and also angry at her father, she has warned him not to take those people in but he refused thinking he is helping the King by taking care of the people and now the same King has arrested him.

The maid returns with Maria's medicine and Davina serve it to her, the rest look on worried about what will become of them.

The crime their Master is accused of can get the whole lot of them killed which means they are not safe.

"By the way, where is Jessica?" Davina asked seeing that Maria is a little calm

"She...Is in the palace" Tasha answered this time.

"Why is she in the palace?" She asked and the look from everyone tells her something is also wrong on her end.

"She... Oh my! That stupid girl, she was caught in the King's bed when your father's issue was going on" Jane finished condemning her more.

"In the King's bed, that...That fool" Davina remark feeling frustrated.

"Because of her actions, everyone believe your father try to plant someone beside the King to harm him" Jane continued

"Nonsense" Davina breathed

"What will happen to her? Did the King say anything?" She questioned and Jane shakes her head.

Davina couldn't believe how so much could happen in just a short space of time, she was only away from the family for half a day and everything is going wrong
