"Yes," Kuma replied, slightly surprised but not shocked by Dak's question.
Although he hadn't mentioned Bonney's illness before, the Pokémon Alliance's capabilities and the mysterious alliance leader's ability to destroy Mariejois stealthily made it unsurprising that Dak could identify Bonney's condition at a glance.
Dak fell silent, not because he was unwilling to help but because he couldn't pinpoint the cause of the disease. Sapphire Scale Disease, was an ailment where exposure to sunlight and moonlight caused the skin to gradually turn into blue scales. This disease was unheard of, even in the Pokémon world.
If it were an abnormal status condition, a full heal could easily resolve it.
"I'm willing to pay any price," Kuma said, thinking Dak's hesitation was due to concerns about payment. Kuma appeared rather disheveled from traveling with Bonney, not looking particularly wealthy.
"Let's give it a try first," Dak said, pondering for a moment before producing a vial of Full Heal. Kuma placed little Bonney in front of Dak, who sprayed the solution over her.
However, the crystalline formations near her eyes remained unchanged, indicating failure. The disease wasn't an abnormal status condition.
This left Dak in deep thought about what item could cure this peculiar disease. There were legendary Pokémon capable of such feats, like Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire, Celebi or Xerneas' life force, or Jirachi's wish-granting abilities.
However, Dak couldn't afford to summon them directly, so he considered items derived from their powers.
He ultimately decided on a weakened version of Entei's Sacred Fire, hoping it would effectively cure Bonney without overwhelming her.
He didn't choose Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire due to its higher intensity, which might be too much for the young girl to handle.
"This is a flame produced by a legendary Pokémon. It should theoretically eradicate the root cause of the disease. However, this is a precious item, comparable to something that could bring someone back from the dead," Dak explained as he summoned Entei's Sacred Fire.
A gentle yellow flame appeared in Dak's hand, exuding warmth without any heat. Kuma placed the rubber stick in Bonney's mouth to prevent her from biting her tongue in pain.
"Hold her steady," Dak instructed, bringing the flame closer to Bonney. To their relief, Bonney responded positively to the flame, feeling comforted rather than pained.
They watched as the crystalline formations around her eyes gradually dissolved. Dak continued to use the Sacred Fire on Bonney, ensuring the disease was thoroughly eradicated.
"Take Bonney to the Pokémon Center on Pokémon Island. Many skilled doctors from Drum Island are there to check her condition. For now, you can stay on the island and relax," Dak suggested, not entirely sure if the treatment was complete. He trusted the medical team on Pokémon Island to handle any remaining issues.
Just as Dak finished with Kuma, Bon Clay contacted him. "What's going on?"
"Rumors are spreading that the Beasts Pirates are capturing our Pokémon and recruiting new trainers," Von Clay reported.
"Probably a move by the World Government. I'll have Robin check with Morgans. No need to worry for now," Dak responded, immediately suspecting the source of the rumors.
While it was plausible Kaido might covet Pokémon, given his fascination with strange animals and Zoan Devil Fruits, Dak was more concerned with the potential disruption.
"Sigh, if only I had Rayquaza," Dak mused after hanging up. With Rayquaza, he could confront Kaido with a similar level of power. However, Giratina couldn't maintain its Origin Forme outside its realm.
He could purchase a Platinum Orb for 10,000 Pokécoins, allowing Giratina to switch forms at will, but he couldn't justify the expense when Giratina's current form was already dominant.
As Dak pondered his next moves, Robin reported back. The Beasts Pirates were indeed hunting for Pokémon in the New World but hadn't captured any yet, as Whitebeard's territory was the only area with Pokémon so far.
"Send Sceptile to handle Kaido. Lapras can assist against the Calamities," Dak decided. While Sceptile alone might not be enough, Lapras could provide additional support, with Darkrai as a backup if necessary.
"Robin, inform Tesoro that I plan to establish a new store in Wano. He should select capable personnel, but I'll recruit locally as well," Dak instructed. By dealing with the Beasts Pirates and Kurozumi Orochi, the samurai of Wano would likely be grateful.
